    Industrial Design of the week.

I enjoyed the idea that sinix brought up in the rank about lack of quality on the forum.

He suggested we do a "Robot of the week", though... i think that could get REALLY boring and repeative after 10-20 topics. I think INDUSTRIAL design would bring more to the table; Robots, Vehicles, Buildings, Weapons, etc.

I'm having a hard enough time trying to think of unique dsg topics, i mean... we're in the 700, but thankfully William b. Hand offered to help with some new topic ideas and i couldn't deny him since he's always been an inspiration in that section of the forum.

    ANYWAYS.

I was wondering, If any of the big industarial design artists of the forum would be interested in starting up something like this? I could help start it, but i have to admit it's far from my skill set.

How bout every month. It would be more looked forward to and less redundant. And people with personal work and Jobs would have more time to actually participate.

that's an idea, it would become more of a project event, where people could put more time into their designs.

    i think that'd rock

would this be open to everyone? thinking it'd be odd to have both pro level and new-guy level work in the same thread, then again that is the way of CA

    awesome idea

Sounds awesome, always wanted something like this.

I agree with the every month thing, since it would give alot of lazy people (me) time to make a decent design and keep with practice that i don't do.

    please invite half noobs!
and change my name! you can still have that kiss if ya want...

*raises hand, jumps up and down* Oh, pick me, pick me!

Sounds like a great idea, industrial design is so amazing.. I also agree topics should be kept open longer than a week.

Yay, once a month sounds good. Would hopefully get a lot of people participating in each one. I am excited.

Just need to get some good topics going... you can probably just set a bunch of guidelines then randomly combine them. Things like: how does it move (treads, wheels, floating, flying, bipedal, tripedal, quadpedal, etc.), what's it purpose (military, construction, consumer), is it unmanned, manned, 3 manned.... maybe even it's power source (steam powered, electric, etc.).

You put stuff together, like bipedal:construction-heavy lifting:1 manned and you might get something like the powersuit in Aliens.

I'm sure someone could refine that better, good luck.

a month would be very good, so you would have the dsg - daily, cow - weekly, and now industrial design of the month. It be really, cool and youd get some high quality work i think

Awesome idea. I really need to work on my industrial design stuff so I'd totally be up to participating.

I think a month may be a bit too long. I think in that length of time people will start to lose interest. I think bimonthly might work better. Or if we go with a month we could use the extra time and have the topics be fairly in-depth (something including multiple machines in an environment, for example).

    I can't wait!

i like the sound of this! count me in (even if i'll probably never post the results )

i think once a month sounds good, but if you make it too complex (e.g., multiple robots in an environment) you're likely to scare away the noobs (like me!) besides, if the topic is relatively simple, the more pro people will just have to push themselves harder to make innovative designs.
...so what if i'm bored, and ordinary?...

    i say "hell yeah"!

i'm doing the Creature of the Week for my first time and i think activities like this really help bump up the level of art and artists around here. i know it forces me to do something i might not otherwise, and i think that's really important.

so "Industrial Design of the Month" sounds like a kickin' plan. count me in.
Hey dog. . . . did you see the size of that chicken?!
