does that mean you want to color guide tuesday?

and I assume the color guide is just the colors you use on the character?

Yes, I want the color guide tuesday. Basically just the flat colors thrown down to get an idea of what the finals will look like - 'case anybody was confused

Uhm... can I plant my flag half-way? I've always struggled with cartoon characters, and if the sketches look poo, there's no point posting. Then again, the samurai picture has a horse in it (horses are also the bane of me as well, generally), and it turned out quite well, so who knows? I'll certainly start sketching and see where it takes me.

    Cyber punk demi-goth

Right, i'm not sure if i'm getting this colour guide idea right but I've done a rough sketch with the basic colours i intend to use... The sketch will probably change slightly in the finished piece... Ive gone for a kinda cyber punk, demi-goth approach...

Sketches suck. They suck about as much as sexy in "but in the 50's, she was quite sexy. The queen was quite sexy, in a kind of... not terribly sexy kind of way. But in a... use your imagination, you can probably get there kind of way." So yeah. I'm going to sit this one out. Sorry, Rick, I know what you said last time, but this is just not my thing at all.

    Illustration Activity - (New Activity-Month Long-join before Dec. 7th)

    BIG ACTIVITY-

Well since i let everyone down last week i'm running a big activity to make up for it. So if you join you better stick with it, 'cause this one is going to be fun.

The activity is for a color cover for a rpg game to be cmpleted in one months time. The publisher expects to see several thumbs, approve sketches, and have a final based on the following brief.

Subject: The publishers want a dynamic cover of a group of three heroes encountering a small group of creatures and engaging in combat. They would like this encounter to take place inside a cave or cavern type environment. Feel free to create a very fantastical cave like environment.

    Three Heroes:
    - Hiro: Human male, long blond hair, around 6 1/2 ft. tall, heavily armored, missing left hand is replaced with sword. (edit: hiro is well built and the main character)

    - Klaxor: Male dwarf, shaved head, long matted beard, armored, weilding a large battle axe, uses shield. (dwarves usually stand 4-5 ft. tall and are very stocky)

    - Crik: Goblin archer, leather tunic, large bow, sandals, tattoos.(goblins stand 2-3 ft, tall and are thin and wirey)

    Creatures:
    - Alana: Female dark elf witch, revealing tight clothing, large flowing robes, powerful, uses a bladed staff

    - Troll: Large menacing troll. . .

    - Spiders: several large spiders (from dog size to maybe car size)

Final cover size will be 8.5x11, plan accordingly.

THUMBNAILS (atleast 3) due- October 5th
Thumbnails should include atleast 3 dynamic compositions of the battle, and quick (full body) sketches of the main characters for approval

    ROUGH SKETCH due- October 10th
One of the above thumbs (chosen by me) worked out in more detail to discuss final placement of characters and composition

    FINAL SKETCH due- October 15th
The final drawing of the above sketch with everything approved and final image, might have basic color guide presented

FINAL COLORED COVER due- October 30th
Final colored image ready for the publisher.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with, feel free to pm with any questions or comments - and we are continuing the single image posts- so please plant a flag if you're joining.

    -rick

The deadlines work so I can go to Prague in between the final sketch and the final cover

Good topic, Rick! I'm stoked! I haven't done too many comps with several characters in it, so this is gonna be a challenge for sure!

    Edit: cover
I got an extension from Rick..Sorry I'm so late.
Here are my characters and thumbs:

    Characters:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ments/Hiro.jpg
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ments/Crik.jpg
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...nts/Klaxor.jpg

    Comp:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ents/Comp1.jpg

    [EDIT]:
Kept the thumb I that Rick chose, and the characters.. Linked 'em instead of cluttering the whole thing with lots of pictures

Here's my sketch. Tried to do a bit more dynamic poses (I'll probably still adjust those a lot), switched Alana around according to feedback from Rick.
Hope I get the interaction between the characters across....

    roughsketch
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rsketchWeb.jpg
oh.. and I'm gonna add more spiders

    Colorsketch
I put the characters a bit closer to the viewer and I've started adding colors.
Sorry that I haven't gotten around to Hiro and Criks armour/clothing yet, but this is all I've had time for.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...etchColor3.jpg

Again I got an extension from Rick, but I didn't have time to polish this one too much, but I'm posting what I got:

    Illustration Activity - (New Activity-Month Long-join before Dec. 7th)

Damn multiple character-comps are hard! At least I've been learning some stuff while I've been doing this one.. overlapping characters to create depth.. trying to get the characters to interact and so forth.

    peace

These are kind of simplistic thumbnails, but I was having a lot of trouble doing anything more complex. Sorry.

    Illustration Activity - (New Activity-Month Long-join before Dec. 7th)

Okay, here are my character sketches. With the exception of Hiro, I was happy with how they came out, though they aren't as legible scanned. Should I remove the thumbnails now?

EDIT: I didn't like my original final sketch, so I redid it.

Here's my coloured version. It could have been better, but I sort of like the lighting effect.

Got Crik posed, and I'm pretty happy with it. There are little sketched arrows and blood on the troll, but it won't really show up until I get the coloring done.

So this is the start of the coloring. As I keep going, some of these are going to end up less saturated, really draw the eye in to Alana and Hiro.

I always found it difficult to tell the difference between male and female goblins- let's say male.
