That sucks about the game getting turned down. It's hard to see all the work you have created to be thrown away. I'm also in the industry and you are definitely right... this stuff happens a lot. Really solid work! Thank you for sharing!!!!

good thing is those characters are awesome.
bad thing is they loose alot of that character in the 3d versions.
and of course that the game got turned down. life's a bitch sometimes.

whoa! killer update, lots of fantastic characters. did you do a series for each one of individual soldiers?

I have to agree with carnifex, something intrinsic is lost in the translation to 3d. it's possible it would return with animation and voices...I think your drawings display the attitude and personality of the characters.

edit after looking at the images again: I think part of my issue with the 3d models could be solved by changing the neutral facial expressions. Also: I completely agree with you about the initial incarnation being more interesting. It's the A-Team vs. the Accounts Payable Team. The first group looks like the fun-loving wise-cracking misfits that happen to be bad-ass special-ops soldiers. the second group looks like your regular ordinary bad-ass spec-ops team that gets wiped-out by the big bad enemy and that's why we called in the A-Team (played by the gamer).

about the characters in 3d i think i agree with carniflex and bwkeough - without a doubt the concept sketches have more to show for them. this made me think that it would be so cool to propose a 2d game or a 3d game with a 2d look to them. just to have your art as the final characters. dont know if you got it overseas but its been done in japan (was huge here) and it looked real good (sorry cant remember name of the game right now).

KhenU, you're a STAR!. Thanks for the support, means a great deal.

tensai, bwkeough,Carnifex, yeah 3D. I can't blame anyone for that as I created them, maybe more time and polygons would have helped, maybe not. The faces are not rigged, so a blank 'bind' expression is all they have. One day I hope to catch the energy of my 2D in my 3D. One day I hope to never have to do 3D.

And as for the final incarnation vs the first. Oh man, many tears shed over that, the art director and I very nearly came to blows.... anyway, good to know I wasn't the only one who preferred that version, thanks bwkeough.

GunTrouver, thanks, always great to see you here.

and the rest of you, thanks again, I'm humbled.

I've had some very grown up stuff to deal with recently, so sorry for the lack of updates. I'll let you in on it soon, but thanks for the support while I've been AWOL.

mini update: a couple of Hoods:

    bye-bye bump
    bye-bye bump

and an absolute shameless plug:goddamn sell out. One day I hope to have reprints of my sketchbook up there, but until then...

    Updates soon.

    Cheers.

sweet! salaryman apparel the "I shot NY" shirts should have some mass-market appeal, but I'd rather have one of your characters swearing in pictographs!

    I love you...
well...i love your artwork..you....bot so much
I just love everything ....I can't help it. and I agree totally with the first version of the characters. The second group is cool, but the first just have so much personality...like you can tell they just fuck things up all the time, but are still remarkably badass. I would have got your back against the AD man...hold his arms while you throw jabs in his bloated belly.
Cool shirt...you're not from NY, are ya? Get some prints in there..I wanna hang you on my wall

sweet update, salaryman! "so called", but "so nice", none-the-less.
one crit - the 'flying' spray can: the oval/circle shape at the top versus that at the base don't flow correctly in my eyes - the transition from the more ovoid/circular top to the more elliptical base seems too quick/distorted. do you see what i'm seeing?
    cheers!
