Just starting out in digital. I have some questions.

Hi this is my first post I believe lol .I have been here for the past year or so.
I have some questions but I guess I should give some background info.
As far as drawing I do ok. I was an airbrush artist for a while. I went in to 3d art 3 years back. But anyway. I am looking to get in to Photoshop to texture my 3d models and to do some digital paintings.

I have attached some old old paintings; these are not great they just happened to be the first pics I found on my pc of mine.

    My questions.

What training DVDs would you recommend for photo shop or painter?
I have been looking at the DVDs at http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/index.html
    Any recommendations for DVDs there?
(I learn better from videos.) Are there any free videos out there?

What I am looking to do is like Boris vallejo type work in digital.

Not to start a war but what would be easier for a newbie to learn painter or Photoshop?

Thanks for any help or advice.

I can't recommend anything, cuz I'm selftaught at Photoshop (and pretty much everything else). It's quite possible to learn by just experimenting.

If you're used to traditional painting, it will be easier to move to digital. If you've done digital first, then traditional is going to seem very cumbersome and slow.

Painter is designed for drawing/painting and tries to emulate natural media look and feel. Plenty of devoted supporters. Photoshop is originally designed for photo/image manipulation. It is great for doing that, but many talented artists have also created exceptional paintings/drawings using it. If you are primarily interested in creating paintings, Painter is probably the better bet.

For tutorials, take a look at this site:

    http://www.computer-training-software.com/painter-8.htm

The left hand column displays a list of lessons available. Those shown in blue are free lessons but already quite comprehensive to get you started. Similar lessons are also available for Photoshop (link in box of Associated Titles).

    Good luck.
