    That's awesome!

I gotta say when I saw the post's title I was expecting Kleenex with pictures of dinosaurs printed on them. Which would have also been pretty cool. I'd totally love blowing my nose on a T. Rex. But this is probably a more interesting topic than kleenex.

    Wow.. that's incredible.

Cloning probably wouldn't work for large dinosaurs, unfortunately. I read that there's about 20% less oxygen in the air today as there was back then and they probably wouldn't have effective enough lungs to compensate. However... let them try! Then we'll get a dinosaur corpse. That ought to be useful for something.

If it is true (which I doubt), much of the DNA is probably lost due to radiation. I could imagine that it's possible to retrieve some by checking for common values and build up the DNA up that way. There's millions of cells so adding them all together should get a more complete picture. I'm just guessing though, I know nothing about DNA stuff.

Regardless of this story is a hoax or not, resurrection is a must! Anyone who disagrees shall be clubbed to death with a brontosaurus hip bone.

What are the odds of them finding tissue from the most famous dino btw? Why not a boring less known dino? Things fossilize inwards, so I can understand if it has to be a larger creature but still, a T-Rex?

There's news pages where you can add you own news too, like "A research institute in Schweiz has determined that Kevin is Gay. Totally GAY!" then you can send a link to the fake page to your gullible pal Kevin.

It was on the BBC too, Prometheus. I highly doubt it's a hoax unless it's in the same vein as Archaeoraptor. I hope not though. This is cool!

You know all those scientists have the thought of cloning it in the back of their heads...and I really want to hunt one and cook it over a fire while we listen to classical music and celebrate with whiskey and firearms.
    Motivation...gone.

man, how awesome would that be.
anyone remembers dino riders? we could train them and equip them with lethal laser cannons. and then i would ride on a t-rex, shooting stupid horses. no one likes horses anyway. they hang around all day doing nothing. it's a shame they haven't become extinct yet, in these times of cars and airplanes.
however, good work, scientists - next stop: time travels!

btw: why didn't these scientists come to think of breaking the bones earlier? i thought that would be a standard procedure ...

I wonder if they can at least say definitively if it was warm-blooded or not. I know that they've found dinosaurs that appeared to have been covered in feathers or down and that they found a specimen nicknamed "willo" where the impression of a large four-chambered heart was quite visable. You'd think this find would finally be able to nail the lid shut on the question.

More than that, Exo. There's a spot in China (Liaoning, I think) where they've found a bunch. Sinosauropteryx, Caudipteryx, and my personal favourite, Microraptor. It had four asymmetrically feathered wings, meaning those very much like bird wings that could have been used to fly. Arms and legs both. I just love this stuff

Actually it's not. They do their best to preserve the bones as naturally as possible. Some of the excavation finds can weigh in at tens of tons, if not more. That's a lot to move when trying to transport something! Especially from a remote area. Hence the breakage this time around.
