man, finally the images are working for me.
great stuff. just keep on doing what you're doing.
and draw more faces from life. they lack some autheticity/realism, i think.

These last couple of environments are real nice man...My only crit would be there might be some small perspective issues in both, and the last one in particular could use a bit more focus...I find my eye wandering a bit, not sure where to settle down. I know little to nothing about 3D, but your last orc design is looking pretty hot...looking forward to seeing it rendered.

    Mmm, cool stuff as always.
I especially like the anatomy studies you did at the end of March, on paper ... the arms and torsos are very nice indeed.

I also like the mood and colours of the PS samurai sketch a lot, although the proportions/scale looks a little funky...

The volume definition on the "man made fat!" sketch is very cool, I like it a lot

It's weird, I think your pencil sketched faces are not as good as the muscle and anatomy things you do - usually with artists it's the other way around, faces look good but the anatomy is sloppy ... I think you should do some "realistic" face studies, it might help there?

The Orc model you are doing is turning out pretty well, but be careful to try and keep things "organic" - the hands especially look really fake, since they are so flat. Also some parts of the face, like the nose, have very sharp edges and 90 degree angles, when it'd look a lot more natural if the angles the edges go through weren't so harsh, if you know what I mean ... generally in organic modelling you wanna keep the edges fairly "loose" - not completely unorginased, but not in gridlike lines either.

I'm sure with a bit more practise getting used to making organic meshes you will be able to transfer your knowledge of anatomy and stuff much better.

Keep it up, I love seeing your updates!

MoP : Thanks for the input ! you are right, i will do face studies, i feel that i need it to broaden my choises in facial looks and to give me a broader knowledge base, about the 3d, thanks !!! im a total noob in 3d, this is my second model in Maya, and before that i've done 4 or 5 models in Wings3d so im no pro
it helped alot, thanks for the time given to me in form of critique!

    jrr : Thanks man!

Happy birthday Bjorn! I'd buy you a drink but you're on the other side of the world. Nice loose sketches, I'm enjoying the hell out of your thread. I also like seeing you work with tech. The gold suit of indonesian armor is looking pretty sweet, you should add a bunch of encrusted gems to it, tighten up the helmet and make the teeth real teeth.

Happy birthday, man! Hope you have a good one

Some nice radiosity going on in that new painting ... mmm, red.

I did some paintover stuff on that model you posted, it's looking good but there is room for improvement in a few areas as you're working on it!

The nose (and maybe the area around the eyebrow too) has too many polygons at the moment, I think - you wanna try and represent volume and shape with as few polys as possible, whether doing in-game stuff or for high-poly subdivision (since it can always be smoothed later). The less polys you have, the easier it is to change the shape and size of stuff - you don't wanna fiddle around with a lot of vertices if you decide to change some part of the model later.

Also you see I have painted over the chest of the guy - you want to make edges "flow" following the natural muscle shapes of the body, it makes for a much more realistic mesh - something that is also related to this is using right-angled polys. See what I have written in the top right, you don't want to use a "perfect rectangle" shape for polygons in an organic mesh, usually. Imagine it would be like drawing a human figure using only a ruler and pencil - perfectly straight lines are not very natural!

Here is an image of a model Darren "Daz" Pattenden was working on (he posted it over on Polycount a while back) ... it's an excellent example of a natural-looking model. Notice how he follows the shape of underlying muscle and bone structure with the polygon edges, and the shape of the quad polygons is always "irregular", never perfect. This makes stuff seem really realistic.

    (See Daz's site here - http://home.comcast.net/~dpattenden/ )

Of course you can use perfectly straight polys for mechanical or man-made parts of a model, but you shouldn't for organic things

Hope that helps! Once you nail the technical stuff, I think you should be able to create some really awesome models

    Keep up the great work!

    MoP

Wassup man! Enjoying your thread quite a bit! Jsut wanted to chime in and compliment you on your modeling. Great texture on that very first pic, looks like you medeled that in ZBrush, was surprised to read it was an actualy texture, nicely done! And the anatomy on the mouthless guy on the recent image you posted has great anatomy. His ribs and abs area is done perfectly.

Your sketches are pretty darn cool too man. Especially like that first montage you did. Some great ideas on those digisketches too!

That last creature you painted is WICKED!!! Im sure as hell not droppin' any crumbs if thats what it attracts, I'd lose my S#!T!!!! hahah
