Gloominati┤s sketches :!! OFFICIALLY CLOSED!!
So that┤s the thread in wich I want to post all of my drawings and paintings I make now and in the future. This thread is meant to be some kind of documentation of my drawing skills and improvements. Well perhaps it sounds absurd, or not realy realistic but I want to try, to show you my personal "artjourney", from now till the time I reach my aim, wich is becoming a concept artist (Yes, and think what you want but I swear that it actually IS realistic). Yeah perhaps It┤s kind of crazy to do something like this because this thread is going to be still active in maybe 15 years. I just want to share my artprocess of my entire life with you, to improve quickly and learn the most i can.
To introduce myself:
My name is Christof, I┤m 16 years old and I live in germany. I am very ambitious to reach my aim. I really want to learn the most I can and I ask you guys to help me doing so. I hope that some of you are interested to give comments and critiques, ┤cause I think this project will be really great!!
Yeah, nothing more to say about it. I hope that some of you like to participate in my huge journey, and hopefully some of you would like to help me to become the best artist i can ever become
Hope you enjoy it

Looks good, the lighting and colour scheme make it nice and clear. Seeing as you're doing an anatomy study, though, I think the pecs should loop round over the biceps. And that middle muscle group is a bit anonymous: is it part of the deltoid or the pectorals? Nice style, though, makes me think of medical illustration, what with the anatomy and all.

a very very rough sketch, for an image i want to paint in painter in the next time
A speedpaint, i did a few days ago, took ma about 30 minutes
My firs anatomy studies ever, I started to study anatomy two week ago
April 2nd, 2005 #6
I made all this stuff last two weeks.
Some more anatomy studies:
When I draw anatomy studies, I always try to copy from reference and then to draw the whole thing ones more from memory.
My first life painting ever:
In the two following images I drew from reference. I tried to get the shape in a very short time. One took me about 1 minute.
Here are some doodles I did while listening to the radio
AS ALWAYS: C&C ARE REALLY REALLY WECOME

A friend of mine asked me to create a Logo for his band, here┤s my first result.
Perhaps It┤s a bit too "clean" for a "Punk-band logo"
And here is a little speedpaint I did yesterday, took me about 20 minutes
C&C are welcome!

Well this one (of course) isn┤t really good. I still have to learn very much but I can see, that my anatomytrainung of the last three weeks, made me really improve. Before I did all my anatomystudies, my Figuredrawings were based on guesswork always.
C&C are welcome
That are some "studies" I did today. Yeah that are my hands and yeah, you can┤t imagine how it hurts to brace your hand that way for about half an hour

Welcome to CA!
Had a critique about the gun you drew for your character. It's a side view, but you can see the back of the cylinders too much, as if the gun was bent, also I don't see a place for the bullet shells to exit, hehe.
On to anatomy! Those studies are coming along very well, I think I saw some Loomis in the leg and muscle studies... if not, check out his works www.saveloomis.org
Got some good rendering and some really rough sketches. Before you put the line down, think about how it should look, where it starts and where it ends, and what it's connecting. If you visualize it in your mind instead of putting down a few lines over eachother, you'll see better results!
Common stuff, very strong start. Keep working hard on the anatomy and put what you study there into what you draw from your mind!
I'll be checking back in on you soon enough.

IanE: Thanks for your comment. Yeah I┤m learning really hard at the moment and won┤t stop! Yes, line quality is one of my biggest problems, I really have to work on it
This one was meant to be a sketch for a pic, i wanted to paint in Painter 8, well, and now it turned out a bit more detailed then a sketch usually is,but I think I will paint I in Painter 8 too.

One Anatomystudy i did from my mind. Actually only the pose is from my mind, I looked a few of the muscles up in a book.
Come on!! Throw some rocks at me!! (Okay, Well, don┤t do that - but throw many crits against my head!!!!)

That┤s the first one of my "daily-anatomystudies" play wich is valid since today. I really have to improve my figuredrawing skills
April 20th, 2005 #13
No,no, no, i didn┤t break my daily-anatomy plan after the seccond day but yesterday was very stressful, so I haven┤t had enough time to upload the anatomystudy, i drew YESTERDAY
Some others will come later

Daily Anatomystudy 20th April
This picture has been scanned in two parts. I didn┤t want to play with it in photoshop, so I left the light area around his knees.

For some reason it was quite hard for me to draw the rotation of the forearm correctly. Well so I sat down yesterday and trashed out my unknowingness. So, these are the bones and today I┤m gonna try to handle the difficult part, the muscles.
Give as much C&C as you can!!
April 30th, 2005 #16
Well haven┤t updated for a long time but that doesn┤t actually mean that I didn┤t draw, I just haven┤t had any time to upload all the stuff I drew.
In the last time I drew so many anatomystudies that I have totaly neglected to draw faces. I noticed that when I wanted to draw a charakter from my mind. Yes, the bodies I draw are the best ones I have ever drawn but when I wanted to draw the face I was quite helpless how to start , so I went through google and downloaded a few reference portraits
It┤s only a speedpaint, ┤cause I didn┤t want to put so much time in it, I want to paint as many as possible of this stuff, so I can┤t paint on one portrait about two days. This one actually took me about two hours
May 5th, 2005 #17
I have been damn busy these days, so I haven┤t had real time to sit down an draw. Well so I bought myself a "real" scetchbook, so hopefully I┤ll find more time to sketch while I am out.

Some new studies
Didn┤t draw very much this week, school was stressing like hell! Well, but all the stress is over for now, and I have muuuuch time to draw.
These are some studies I did today morning, more to come later or tomorrow, depending on how much time I┤ll have to load 'em up.
Some C&c would be great
May 15th, 2005 #20
I need to improve my face-drawing abilities, so I sat down today and worked and practised a bit with Loomis` books.
Some more to come later.
May 18th, 2005 #21
These are todays Anatomystudies. At the moment I┤m concentrating the most on the human head.
For the first one I used some reference and the second one is drawn from mind.
C&c are welcome, as always of course
May 18th, 2005 #22
I like a lot of your anatomy studies but i think you need to try and work on bringing what you learn from the anatomy into your drawings from imagination. One way of doing this would be to draw a few from reference, and then draw one of your own and really try to apply what you learned from the last ones just like you did with the last pictures except try not to just recreate the picture, try to use some different angles. Anyways Keep it up and you'll start getting a ton of improvement soon!

Oh yeah, I really agree to what you said. Well actually I want to draw from my mind and make studies and figuredrawings from my mind, but actually I am kinda "afraid" to screw them up with my low knowledge of anatomy.
Well But I really think that you┤re right and i will give it a try right now, ' cause I really really need to do this
Yeah, thank you for the comment!!

Well here I am again. During the time I didn┤t post I drew a lot of Head- constructions, to many to post em all, and surely also too boring to see them^^
Well I┤m still working on my Portrait drawing skills and because it┤s still a far far way for me to be able to draw portraits from my mind, I went to the reference thread and downloaded some references.
This is just a very rough sketch, I`ll paint it in Painter tomorrow. I know this one suckz ass, so give as much C&c as you can!
One thing to mention before I go : I know that he has got a huge chin but I┤ll correct this mistake while painting
So here it is

here are some hand studies I did last night. I used photos i took from my girlfriends hand as reference
C&C are welcome!
May 28th, 2005 #26
Here┤s today┤s night stuff.
some comments and of course crits would be nice.
Again I used photos of my girlfriend as reference.

Hey, nice progress! I guess 16 is a good age to start drawing and with your dedication I'm sure you'll end up as the artist you want to be. Keep it up!
The anatomy-studies are very solid I guess but I would like to see them more in action then just replicated! If you draw a picture from reference and think you have understand something I'd suggest you draw the bodypart in a different angle and position. That way you'll get more familiar with the masses and relations plus you are really forced to construct. And when you draw from photo-reference, why not change the direction of lighting when you're shading it? that way you'll get an even better idea of how much you understand it already

Sorry for not updateing my sketchbook for about two weeks now, because I was on a sailing trip with some other students. But now I am here againg and can go on drawing
Here are some Anatomystudies I did yesterday night. I tried to draw as much as possible without reference.
More to come later.
