This is my daily sketchbook to help me improve, as I am still very much a newb to drawing.
Any crits/comments/tips are greaty appreciated.. I know i could use them.
Here is today's page from my sketchbook, I did a self portrait and a sketch of my left hand ( hands are very hard for me ):
not a bad hand, keep working them. i dont know much about shading, but i see and notice here that you use a lot of crosshatching and simple shading (the whole shadow has strokes all in one direction)...i heard that shading according to the form helps bring the picture to life (i.e. makes it look more 3d, more real). the fingers are cylindrical, right? shade it with a curve so that you can tell the form. the shadow on the thumb is a stark shadow and makes the thumb look a little weird. maybe if you smudged the shadow it would look more natural. the anatomy of the hand is pretty good (and probably better, as i've never seen your hand ). i would say if you think you need practice with hands, first lose the shadow. practice the anatomy of the hand until you can get it down right every time. AFTER that, work the shadow; for now, its just a distraction. hope this helps, g'luck with the drawing!
Yeah I have trouble with hands.. something I really need to work on, I think I am gonna stay away from the value for now until I get more comfortable with em.
