    need suggestion

    hi all!!!

first i hope i'm not posting in the wrong place

i need some suggestion about a couple of things.

recently i'm going to practice myself in coloring comic pages. the problem is: where can i find some HR&HQ page or pack just to test myself

i also wuold like to know how, even if possible, i can find video-games concept arts

finally i wuold like to know where i can find some REALLY GOOD tutorial or tips about coloring comic pages: i just found many of them but in each one the result is ever different from the topcow, marvel and dc stuff

i show gratitude to everybody who will help me...

I don't know what HR or HQ mean. As far as tutorials online go you might try polykarbon.com .

As for books, Antarctic Press put out a book on coloring comics, that came with a CD-ROM with blank pages to color. DC also released a book on coloring comics if I'm not mistaken.

I think Joe Mad sites have hirez sample pages sometimes.

Here's a quick and dirty tut on coloring (there's many other ways to do it):

    1. Load the line art into PS

    2. Create a new layer over the line art and set it to multiply.

    3. Pick a detail like a jacket or the skin areas, color it with a hard solid brush. Any flat color will do, should be close whatever color the finished detail will be though.

    4. Now check 'preserve transparency' in the Layers palette. This means your strokes are kept inside the flat color area.

    5. Color. I prefer doing this by making lasso selections and airbrushing suitable gradients. This gives nice sharp edges which works well with the line art that also is sharp of course.

    6. Goto step 2, repeat for all details.

    7. Balance stuff. You can also save step 5 for last, which'll make it easier to see how the colors works together.

    An alternative method is:

Load the lineart, use a brush on multiply to lay down base colors, paint over everything with brushes of your choice. Results in a painted look of course.

I just realized it's better to put the line art in multiply so the color layers can obscure each other like this:

Also, it's best if the gradiation isn't transparent so you get multiple gradients going into each other. Some prefer using the gradient tool rather than the airbrush.
