NYC's Subway Sketch Group - (feb. 2006 Subway update)
Inspired by Digi, goldenavatar and myself are starting our own subway sketch group in NYC. As a precursor to the main event (which should be happening the weekend of March 26-27th) I scanned in some pages of my sketchbook that i take with me for those long rides on the subway. Enjoy.
this one was done at JFK airport
JFK as well
more to come

love em, man. great vitality to em. you took classes w/ george pratt, right? I had the fortune of having him for a few semesters here, totally changed the way I drew.
a crit, or suggestion I guess, for your sketches- try incorporating the environment of the subjects, I think the feeling of the subway would come across really well this way. just a suggestion, though. hope to see some more!

Ya dude, i hate backgrounds. My major weakness. I dont really get to the backgrounds cause I usualy don't have a lot of time to get to them. Becasue i use a brush pen and the subways are so damn shaky a lot of time is wasted trying to control the line. I had an awesome caligraphy pen do this kind of stuff but dumbass me broke it.
This recent bunch has a hint of background in them.
This left page: just a little screwing around warmup after taking a look at wes9000's thread.
The right page: I was waiting for my sister outside her work.
real quick ones done at the laundromat.

Subway Sketch Group - (04.10.05)
Golden - the posts are helping, now all you gotta do is show up, hehe.
Digi - come back and check in on your bastard children.
Here's a new batch.
Winjer showed up, and a newcomer, Jin. We took the E downtown, but there was no one on the train. so we ended up going to the park. Initialy tried to go to the Zoo but seing as how we're all broke we went to a grassy area and sketched until 6:30. I sucked most of the day. Didnt start getting good until the very end.
This one's my favorite of the whole batch:

I'll be scanning what I drew sometime during the course of the week. I'm not the most accomplished of the group, but I'm working on changing that, and the only note worthy thing about my work is that I'm mighty proud of my gesture drawings.
I just wanted to take the time out to say, if you haven't shown up for one of the group sessions yet, then you're seriously missing out. It's encouraging for me to be interacting with a group of such skilled illustrators. I'm definetly going to make sure that I make as many of the sessions as my schedule will allow right now, and I will definetly make an effort to attend the Thursday S.O.I. events as well.

hey hey -
we, at the NYC Subway Sketch Group are putting up a show of our work.
Here’s the deal. One of or members, Nathan Schreiber, and I have been talking about putting up our Subway Sketch Group Work at his apartment/gallery.
Here are the details:
Iron Works Gallery
259 East 134th Street
NYC Subway Sketch Group Show
Saturday December 3rd
You can participate in the show if you’ve come out to sketch with us (be it at the regular Subway Sketch Group meetings or the Art Out Loud events). We ask that you submit one observational drawing (be it a person or an environment) and one page from your sketchbook (whatever you want). We will be collecting submissions at our Subway Sketch Group Meeting this Sunday (27th) at 12:00 PM at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (note: if you would like to participate in the show but can’t make it this Sunday, let me know and we’ll try to work something out).

What's cracklin fools??? I'm resurrectin this shit!
So while Amish was massaging Indiana Jones nuts at his job yesterday afternoon, Winjer, Angel, Rob, and I took the 2 train to the Boogie Down and back.
^^^^Hey its out boy Winj! REPRESENT!
^^^^After we were done drawing this chick she went up to Winjer, touched his leg and was like "hey are you guys from Deviant Artist?" Winjer was like "NO CONCEPT ART! Even the most heralded posters on DA could never crack the Myrmilo rankiing on CA.ORG!" He kinda choked on the last part and ended up coughing on her jacket. She ran from the train, hopes dashed from her eyes and tears streaming down her face.
^^^^The guy in the upper right corner was all smiles until Rob pointed at his half-eaten hostess cupcake and was like "uhhhhhhhh you gonna finish that?" What were you thinking?!
^^^^The parents of this baby said we were "painting." UMMM WHERE ARE MY ACRYLICS AT THEN??? WORST THREAD EVER!!! SHUT UP AND DRAW!!!!"
post ur shit peoplez! All us Wendy's heads need to stick together before Amish's fancy tastes bankrupt us all!

hahaha - awesome.
so remember thePUB, on the UWS, where we couldn't hang becasue of Cam? Angel, Shiraj and I ended up there last night and we had a decent time sketching to the wee hours. good amount of cute girls there. also ended up at the diner with the russian girl with the scar. There's some cheep burgers there. they, of course, don't meet my high standards, but they kick more ass than poopy Wendy's.
