hey all, and welcome! i have removed all content from this first post as it's no longer hosted where it was and it's just taking up space. my progress over the last 9 years is chronicled here (with the exception of a year and a half where i was absent from the .org); please feel free to take a look. cheers!

Your pics are great ...
i like the last one ... all the faces have character!
I'd like to be a non-conformist, like all of my friends
The last one I love. I agree with the above the faces have alot of character. I also see that you live in japan. where, cause I live here to. In Shinagawa. maybe we could meet up. PEACE!!!!
ropa - thx man. its actually a picture of some of my students at one of the nursery schools i teach at. i had them each do short poses for me during free-play tme. im really happy with how it turned out, though i feel the first two kids got the short end of the stick...dont think it looked much like them, guess i had to warm up first or something.
strife25 - konnichiwa! nice to meet you. haha man, wish it would be possible to meet up, but you live a close 4 hours away by shinkansen, 11 by bus...i live in a small town called yakage...very much a farm town in the southwestern part of japan, okayama-ken. work (sensei-ing) is keeping me very busy, and i really dont get vacation time like a normal job. maybe something could work out in the future, but for now im really far from tokyo. we will see man, we will see. anyway, nice to meet you, thanks for stopping by here and i hope to see you around again.
most of these are relatively new (since Christmas at least. i think.) pictures ive drawn and/or colored. ive actually been growing by leaps and bounds over the last couple months. got bridgaman recently, and i bought Batman: Hush, really great art Jim Lee and Scott Williams, story by Jeph Loeb. great to see more of Jim's work, havent bought it in a long time. anyway, im getting long-winded and i should sleep soon, so...
from the "coloring book" thread...lines by Slam, colors by me on painter 9. first time using.

went to the city today, bought some more Rapidoliner pens...good stuff. more updates...random sketches. enjoy!
thats all for now folks! catch you on the flip side.
some older stuff, life drawing (last september, october, november...around then). they have a lot of problems, i know, and they also mostly have no faces. i used to not draw them cause i wasnt good at making them look like the person, but i feel like im at a point now where i can do that more consistently. anyway, heres the stuff. thx for stopping by.
ps. really sorry about the quality...im gonna try to get into the office this weekend and scan all my stuff. its really hard to find time cause i have to take my computer there in order to scan it all on here. oh well, such is life...

so i finally get to post some quality stuff (instead of the usual digitally photo'd stuff)...spent most of my saturday at the office trying to scan all of my stuff in. 2 hours spent trying to connect my computer to the scanner (because, of course, all the instructions are in japanese and i couldnt connect to the internet in the office, and...all sorts of stuff...long-->short story: a guy eventually had to come in and set it up for me), 2 hours scanning the stuff. well, it was well worth it, and ill spend the next couple of posts (meaning a lot of them) putting up the stuff from my sketchbooks and stuff. ill try to label it with a time frame as best i can so you can see a progression. i know i didnt say it before, but as always, c&c welcome. especially c&c music factory (if you have any )! hope yall enjoy, come back soon.
(some thumbs from a book im working on for my students, random pages, and some pictures of my friends, the 2 chinese nurses, who have finished their time here and are going back home to china on next tuesday. sadness. )

wow so much stuff gathered here.
The last update is great.
I've seen u did some anatomies and gestures, BUT, do some more. its always good to increase your skills to a higher level and learn new stuff. try doin some anvironemnts, try something u didnt try it, try a new technique.
Keep it up yo, keep it cool,
ohh, and by the way, can u plz edit your images in photoshop, imean lower the size and crop ur images , theres like one drawing in a huge page.
Hey I thought I'd just stop by to say I enjoyed your stuff. I wanna go to crazy Japan! And like Heroic said you should really crop/resize (and rotate those few) to fit better so it's not wasting size. Keep em coming!
you are better than me. i hate drawing.
hey yall, what up? its been a while.
Heroic - thx for stopping by here dude. yeah, this is actually going slow; i've actually only been doing "finished" drawings recently...most of the time its just sketches. so i dont really (at the moment at least, though i need to start) do "studies", per se, but as all of my stuff is just sketches its a lot like studies. but it would pay to focus more on particular parts. also, ive scanned all my work (up to the point of scanning...bout 2 weeks ago) so im in the process of putting it all up; its a lot to put up. so youll see some studies, youll see some sketches, youll see the good stuff. its coming. as for environments...yeah, i need to work on those. ill try to start working those when i draw, and into my drawings. im actually doing more backgrounds and stuff cause i want my characters in my book not to just be floating somewhere in space. but for like, real environments and buildings and stuff, i just gotta do it. thx for pushing dude...if it was just me i probably wouldnt do it. thats why i like this place!!!
runtosaurus - definitely come to crAzY jAPaN sometime dude! seriously, i recommend it to anyone and everyone. its a very good experience, lovely country...very unique. and great food! ah...im in love.
this past week has been...well, um...yeah. its been a while. superbusy. my best friend here left yesterday (she had finished her job in this town so she went back home to China ) so before that it was all bye-bye parties and such...i think we had like, 3 or something for them. and besides that, trying to get ready for the end of the school year (we get 3 days off and then we start up again with the next school year!!! ) plus getting more of my book done. starting to study japanese seriously cause i want to take the official proficiency test at the end of the year, either level 2 or 3 (level 1 being the hardest; even japanese people fail level 1) so thats also taking up my time. i should sleep more too, methinks. starting now. see yall around; thx for visiting.
ps. hope the sizes are good now.
(random pages and some bridgman)
Haha that penguin and little bird made me smile, the expression is pretty funny on that penguin! And Samus woo!! The Bridgman stuff is good too, you have some nice feeling and gesture to them. But hey those dates are old, post some newer stuff too!
Sup!!!!!! Nice new stuff, and excellent studies. Do pages and pages of those and keep up doing things from life. Nice improvement!!!!!
got a wacom today from amazon.jp...just screwing around. the Shiiba pic is of my boss, who is moving tomorrow to another section of the all-encompassing town hall that i work for. she's been really awesome to me so i drew a little picture for her to show her my appreciation. i hope she is happy in her new job...i'm gonna miss her.
thx for stopping by; ill do a proper update soon. jya nee...
pic inspired by a conversation i had with runtosaurus today. youre really cool dude; enjoy.
disclaimer: i did not have scanner access so this is really bad quality...ill try to get a nice one up sometime soon. as well as post more pics.
happy april fools.
its posting time...
sketch i whipped up last night; submitted this for a non-paying job on the boards. figure if i want to eventually get paid for drawing, i could use the practice. we'll see...

hey yall, its been a bit. this week's been kinda hectic in terms of work, and my fam is coming to visit so im trying to prepare their travel stuff for when they get here. most of my drawing has been for working on my book; finished inking another page today so now to start on some more pages. anyway, just filling in the s-book, so heres some old and crappier, and some new bridgman. peace from the far east.
old and crappy:
tiggers are wonderful things.
another day, another post. some life drawing, studies, random stuff. i am getting better at inking and drawing pictures that actually look like who theyre supposed to. yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!! so enjoy; and c&c to your heart's content. peace hate to be ya.
the owner of the restaurant we went to tonight...it was his birthday and he requested that he be drawn, so i drew him and let him have it
to the batcave! um...or...the BED!!!
hey yall, there hasnt been a lot of anything going on in this thread for a bit, but i decided not to post cause i felt i was going about it kinda wrong. and i was just being stupid, not really using the advice i was getting. so now with renewed passion, im starting to work environments cause i would rather draw people. anyway, heres some recent stuff, some people, some still lifes, random stuff. c&c, holla at'cha boy.
be sure to check out my thunderdome with Sajad126 (see "The Playoffs" below; Game 1 - May 12).
so, here's my entries i made for "The Playoffs" thunderdome with sajad126, Round 1. topic was "a swamp. with alligators." as given by runtosaurus; thx for the topic dude. alligators are so fun to draw...seriously peoples, start drawing gators!!! oops...i uh, messed up.
forgot some other pics i drew for my students. 3 pictures, 3 classes. ill probably try to color them in, markers and stuff. we'll see how that goes. peace outside.

Alot of fun stuff there. My favorite is the oni running away from the elementary school kids. It is kind of cool seeing japan from your perspective. I like manga quite a bit, but I have never been to japan. I can read a bit though. Great stuff. Hontou ni zyoozu desu nee .
Some of those anatomystudies are really nice! You are pretty good at drawing arms i noticed I like those alligators 2!
One more thing i noticed is you seem to draw very small most of the time. Isnt that making it difficult for yourself? It would for me
hey yall, back from tokyotown! sister made me take her to tokyo this past weekend to see some sumou wrestling; it was ok, but not worth the amount it costed. but i got some art out of it so its all good.
ended the first round of thunderdome with sajad. check out the playoffs for upcoming action; lets get it started!!!
Masayasu - arigatou! anata no huu mo suki desu. zyoozu desu yo.
Fellah - thx for the love man. yeah, i guess i really like doing arms. but, its more cause i feel i havent quite got them right yet that i do them so much. i really like drawing hands too. and yes, gators are madd fun. frogs too; you should try sometime. about the drawing sizes and stuff, it may seem like i always draw small, but its cause i resize my pictures to the same size, so some of them are really small and some are really big. like, the oni picture and the last 3 pics for my kids were all like, 11x17, but i mostly use 8x11 paper. i dont really have access to a scanner anymore so im using my digicam on close-up mode to capture everything, then cropping and resizing in photoshop. its not bad; most of my stuff is sketches anyway so at this point im not really doing much big. plus, even if i did, theres no room for it in my tiny matchbox-of-a-house anyway.
but thanks yall for replying in my book. its been so long since ive talked to anyone; felt like i was talking to myself. not that i dont do that in real...i mean...what?...here's some art.
peace from the far east!
nice teknoman pic it nice to see someone that know about it
'I HAVE NOT FAILED.I'VE JUST FOUND 10,000 WAYS THAT WON'T WORK.'
What up purb
Love your mix of cutltural references! You must update more.
wow, what a weekend!!! it was hott and jam-packed with fun and adventure! so on saturday, i went clothes shopping with one of my friends here cause i needed clothes for work. ended up getting more than i had set out to (besides shoes, which i couldnt find ), but it was all needed stuff so its all good. then we went to a fishing store cause he was going fishing on sunday. after that, we hit up a computer store, and it was all over rom there. i guess i cant walk into a computer store and not buy anything. dangit! but, i ended up getting a wireless router for my house, so now im floating WiFi baby!!!! i was at least saved from buying another computer (they all just look so good with their shiny screens and all those flashing lights... ); a scanner is next on the list.
sunday was the sports festival at one of my schools, and it ended up raining. so they did it in the rain and we all got wet (even though we had tents and stuff), but it was a really fun time. afterwards i came home and worked on the "game 2" of The Playoffs with sajad, and took a break to work on a song with my boy...he likes the bass i put down for it, but i dunno; doesnt sit right with me. well, at least not as good as those on our first two projects. ah well...
www.speeddemosarchive.com <= reeeediculously nasty video game players...check it out
eku_11 - thx for stopping by the page, yo. you inspired me to start drawing a little tekkaman blade/teknoman again. and yeah, its definitely nice to find other people who know about it too. drop me a msg if you want to talk teknoman sometime, or even just for anything. have a good one dude.
tokidoki - yea dude, youre right...i do need to update more! its been a busy and relatively unproductive (drawing-wise) week, and i like to post when i have stuff to post, so i whipped some up. more "studies" as always. youre making really good progress in your thread; keep up the good work. and, YOU, keep on posting!
corky13 - hey dude, thanx for the kind words and encouragement. i find its easy to draw, but not necessarily to draw with some sort of purpose. im glad for the t-dome that i'm doing with sajad, cause i know i'd never do environments otherwise. you too; keep up with the drawing. you have some nice work in your sketchbook; keep pushing to get better!
ill repost the original reply sometime...im starting to hate my computer.
fellah - thx for stopping by. recently ive just been in love with the green pen; i just feel like ive hit a groove with that pen. anything you see that i could work on?
from thunderdome with sajad ("game 2")
b-man - thx for stopping by here man. ive been by your thread since the last time i posted there, but ive been struck dumb by your skills, i didnt want to say anything stupid. or like, grunting noises and such (goo goo ga ga dang yo!). but yeah...if i can think of anything good and coherent to say, ill be sure to drop a line. more studies coming soon; i should probably resume where i left off in bridgman all those months ago...
if any of yall are fans of the one and only NES, i highly recommend checking out the Minibosses...great band, plays their own arrangements of the theme music from classic NES games. they rock!!! and im up waaaaaay past my bedtime...
parev. inch bes es? lav em.
(ii desu ka? vraiment?)
the last inkdrawing is nice. It has a illustration kinda cleanness i like.
I love Peter Plys and Tigerdyr (those are the danish names - dunno the english one ) on the wall.
Two crits - hehe - the noncropping of the ceiling makes a lot of white noise,
and damn those kids are small. Maybe just a biig woman? I really like the two small lines showing the forms of her breasts - nicely done.
fellah - thanx about the ink. i really dont like finishing stuff in ink cause i dont feel im good at it. honestly, i get scared when i do, cause if i mess up, then the good pencils are ruined too. but this came out nicely, i think so i am happy with it. and yes, the children are supposed to be in nursery (2-4) so they should be that small.
so, youll have to wait around for some anatomy, cause this post definitely aint it...
I love the last piece its solid. An yeah like Fellah pointed out I love Puh and Tigger to! I wish there were some litle smilie that busted some other smilies balls. ahm yeah anyways keep posting Purby
back again! and with...no anatomy!!!
b-man: thx, b-man! hope you got some new stuff for me when i visit...
entry for gringoloco's newly started T-dome Human challenge (my best sp to date, actually ...well, the right side only). 3 pictures that youve seen before, now with some color. 1 picture with full color. should i fully color them all? i like how they are now, but maybe they'd be better with all color. let me know.

Hey, your studies are looking very good and there's so much nice work here, I like that
Hi purb! I'm such a hypocrite, you've been posting and i have not :p You're studies are getting better I like your resturant guy, that must have been fun. I'm so shy when it comes to drawing in public. I agree with Fellah about those kids looking small. I think the size is right, but the proportions are what make them look too small. In general they could use some 'fattening' up. Your latest posts have children who are in proportion. Keep it up purb!
guess who's back. back again.
faust - thx dude; need to do many more. ill hit you up in your thread after im done here.
tokidoki - aa, boku mo update shinakatta ne? you beat me to it too. well, now im updating. hope alls going well with you man. mata kite ne!
its been a long 2 weeks, but im finally posting again. ive been caught up in a lot of projects, and ended up not really working on them, but life stuff has been overwhelming too so i havent posted recently. ive been drawing though...here's some of that.
my crap drawing/original idea for game 3 of the playoffs with sajad126
my slightly less crappy drawing for game 3
you've seen these before, right?
tune in next time, as the world turns...
hi purb good to have you back. those anatomy studies are coming along, real nice
i think your proportions and variations need some work, you looked here http://www.beautyanalysis.com/mba_fa...bysex_page.htm
helped me alot
apart from that your work is real clean, something which i really cant do at all, ts fun aswell and when you colour your work it really looks revitalising
looking forward to the next post, and the world turning
shinryu - thx for stoppin by man...i know its been kinda quiet over here lately; the world's been turnin a little slow as of late. glad you think the studies are good...still have a long way to go though. yep, i need lossa work on proportion...i don't usually think about it as im drawing, but i tend to like, draw the same generic model person-type-thingie all the time. i should switch it up a bit, ne? ill get on it.
today, tokidoki inspired me to do more and more anatomy studies. like, correctly. mostly, i just draw parts kinda here and there, not really focusing specifically on one part. case in point, lattimus muscles (and the whole upper torso and shoulder area really, armpit included) have been giving me problems lately. today, i realized that its cause i didn't have a good enough understanding of the ribcage to be able to position the lats correctly (cause the ribs were all outta whack). so, that made me realize that i really need to start from square one, skeleton and build my way up. so, ill be doing that. been working on something for a friend lately, and also going out more, having fun. did karaoke tonight, which was really fun. had dinner with the mayor this week. did handbell choir with the mayor's younger brother (who is about 45-50 or so), played waaaaay too much madden...drew some. so here's some of that.
(looking back on my older works, i really think it mostly sux. i guess that's a good thing, means that im getting better. i can't wait till this stuff turns to suckyness. )
of the previous two: the mayor drew the first for me...he makes kagura, or traditional japanese dance, masks...this is what they look like. the following one i drew of the mayor...the japanese word for mayor is very similar to that for butterfly, so i combined the two
crits welcome. brits too.
ps. oh and yeah, that last pic is a wip...not yet finished.
Yo, what up, p?
The last one is really cool dude -as you know i dig your arms, so this is pure eyecandy for me hehe. Really nice concept too, looking forward to seing it finish dude. Disliking your old stuff is a good sign - the drawing you do tomorrow should be your best etc etc, just means you pick up new knowlegde all the time.
Cool purb, but .. you forgot the hair.
your bridgman studies are amazing. work on those more man...they are the key. you need to take the principals you're learning there and reapply it in your own work...i recommend getting some cheap clay at the local dollar store and building bridgman studies for breaks...get to understand the form better in 3D...right now you've got the flow of the form, but i dont think you have the dimensionality totally under control yet. great progress...keep it coming

Crit for a Crit: My Online Sketchbook of Super Power Fun
You know, I have some intuitive feeling that you would make a great animator. Having looked through those sketches, I know you have the 'it' on an animator.
I'm still always impressed by your hand drawings.
But with a lil bit of practice, I'm sure you can best Akira and actually have a plot that makes sense.

I agree with that, you work has a very animated/dynamic feel.. your improvement since you started this book is pretty dramatic!
xen, try the akira BOOKS, the story makes more sense, isn't abridged, and is VERY slick.
so, im gonna try to post every few days so that the updates increase, cause its been waaaaay too long between updates lately.
fellah - glad you dig, man. the digipainting is gonna take a while, i can see. ill put up 'in progress' shots. oh, and some more armz, some just for you.
tokidoki - theres a reason theyre all bald...theyre in a cult!!! just playin, but there's a reason; don't want to spoil the surprise, so you can watch as the pic develops.
heri - thx for stoppin by dude; yours aint so bad, either! 8)
apollo - wow dude, i know its a long way from Mount Olympus. are your arms tired? seriously, thx for comin. yep, i need to do a lot more studies. i actually started up doing bridgman stuff (theres some in this post), and yes i am in big need of depth. at this point, i think ive been always trying to use the simple shapes to define depth and perspective, i do need to start working rendering a lot more soon; ive been too lazy to ever really work on it much, and also cause i never really "got it", you know? but i really like the latest SP that i did with full rendering so theres hope...maybe ill do some stuff saturday.
xen - stac, thx. it really means a lot to me for you to say that. now i just gotta keep pushing and getting better everyday.
bsjoe - yo joe, thx for stoppin by. i think i might like to be an illustrator, or even specifically work on childrens' books. as for dynamics, thats mostly the comics influence. would be very hard to break, but then again i dont want to. i definitely feel like ive improved since i first posted. and to think, i was really hesitant to post any of my stuff at first. i think it goes to show what a really awesome community this is; yall made me feel at home. thank you CA.
without further ado...

Actually he should be holding his pants up in the air and the crowd should all hav e dollar bills in their hands. sorry to add to the sillyness :p After reading Fellah's comments on the arms i had to go back and look; I agree, you do arms very well. Foreshortening on them is wonderful.
Disclaimer: This is not a real update, only a post. If this had been a real update, you would've been given instructions to wear the nearest lampshade and give me all of your cash. And you would've done it too. Again, this is only a post.
edit: disco ball added.
yes, tokidoki, you guessed it. omedetou!
fellah - nah, he's got no feet...too sexy for 'em. 26 arms...you missed two.
tokidoki - thx. and, its ok to be silly here...i won't tell.
