masa - thx dude. loving what you have been doing, sorry to only be lurking lately. i've been really busy and not really able to come on much, much less write. i'll be around though. thx for the visit, things are going well, yes indeedy!

hey folks. sorry i was MIA for a while, but i was doing some job stuff and spending time with the girl of my dreams, so i haven't been able to do much. but here's some new stuff, finally getting to use real, honest-to-goodness paint...here's a foray into that. hope y'all enjoy. crits, comments? all are welcome. perspective is off, i know that already...much less concerned with that than with modeling, though...

    Yo Purb! How's things?
Working hard I see. Cardboard is a great canvas. It dont cost much and thats good for studies. Also, I'm a cheap bastard so I like anything that is free. Your digiskills is coming along great. I really like you figure drawings, they are wery much alive.

b - meh, not working hard enough, i think. i feel like i've leveled off quite a bit. guess that means i just gotta slog through what i'm doing right now for a while, and get some mileage. and try to find new ways to challenge myself and do some things that don't come naturally...i know i'm definitely not where i want to be. however, i got back to doing some portrait studies yesterday, and it made me feel alive. so that's one good thing. i'll have a portrait commission coming up soon, so that's a good thing. anyway, dude, YOU'RE making MAAAAAAJOR progress, jumping up light-years ahead of me, dude. can't wait to see where you're going with all of this. still following, and i'll say stuff if i feel i have something to add to the conversation. or something foolish that just comes out.

soooooo...some recent sketches from the sketchbook that have not seen the light of day until now. qualitee's hit or miss, but at least i'm back to drawing. lovelee lovelee.

i'll try to be more visible in the near future; no guarantees though, life being what it is. but it's good, and i'm alive to see it.

*ps. - DO check out Framed Ink, by Marcos Mateu-Mestre...one of my top finds in recent days. lots about composing and storytelling; good stuff!

A late Merry Christmas to you my friend!
Hope your Computer is feeling better and that work isnt to hard on you.
I really like the warm brown color you base you peices on. I should try that. I always use a colder more "dead" base color. Them warm hues really makes a nice cozy atmosphere. This last portrait looks great. I like that you flipped the socks in the background. they were leading the eye out of the image. Good job spotting that

masa - i'm doing ok, thx man. thank you for the compliments. i feel like i definitely don't do enough, especially compared to some of the other people here. just gotta git up and do it. hope you're doing well, and Happy New Year!

b - duuuuude, thx yo. work...is work. finally done, though. i'll finally be going on vacation. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!! computer is fixed, but still lots of programs that i haven't put back on, lots of settings that i need to get back. like my color calibration. i painted the thing on my old computer, sooooooooooo slow! but it got done, and my aunt's pretty pleased, so that's good. personally, i'm not happy with it. it's more cartoony than i wanted it to be. i would like to learn how to make things more realistic-like, to be able to control how that, you know? i don't mind the style, as long as it's what i intended to do. but since it's not, i'm not happy with it. i'd like to be more painterly realistic, like Sargent and those folks. got a long way to go. oh well...back to the drawing board.

finished the piece, here it is! besides that, i've been trying to get some practice in systematic head drawing...figure i might draw up some stuff to help me see the differences different proportions make. maybe it'll help you. more to come...

Good studies here. Try to explore more with that saturation! Like you did in that last post on the blue lips face. Draw draw draw!

matty - thx man! yeah, hue, saturation, value, that's the key; gotta come to understand them more. it's a fun ride, though, and, of course, i'll NEVER stop drawing! take care, my man.

kedi - hey, thanks for visiting my thread! glad you like my figure work...i try hard. cheers! :sketch:

king - thanks, dude; thx for the visit and i'm glad you like. i wish i was a lot better at each medium, too...that's what practice is for. take care, man, i hope you have a great weekend!

so, i went to a life drawing class, and it was amAAAAAAAAAAAZING!!! lots of good people, mostly older and all serious about drawing, and serious about having fun. model was good too. aaaaaaaaand, it was $6. what a steal for some good drawing! i hope to make it out to their thursday portrait session sometime.

Your sketches have some solid form and good energy. Only thing I'd suggest is to watch your proportions in the length of torso.

wit - thx dude. no need to be jealous though...i'm sure you know places where people are doing the same thing for various periods of time...take your sketchbook everywhere and just draw, man! that's the way, man!

vatsel - hey man, can't take credit for it...it's sargent's. mine is but a poor copy. learned something about shapes, though. keep kicking butt, man

flower - hey dude, thanks for visiting! you saw it too, huh? can't put anything past anyone these days, lol. gotta get back on my bridgman and my studies, check. thx for the crit, please let me know other things you see. take care!

abe - meh, not as much life drawing as i would like. but it's cold. really nice to meet you as well, i hope to get to see you again while in the UK. make sure to keep some sketchbooks as well, so i can actually see them live. cheers, bro!

rub - thx for stopping by, dude, and thanks for the encouragement! sometimes it feels like i'm going nowhere fast, lol. but, i enjoy art and i want to keep getting better. my dad went to art school, got a degree and everything, and eventually stopped doing art, like forever. doesn't do it anymore, couldn't be less interested. i never want that to happen to me. so, i'll keep pushing, for that reason as well. but, it's fun, and i like it. thanks dude, i hope you keep pushing hard like you are now. i'll see you in your book soon; take care!

i'm not dead, really, i'm not!
some recent stuff: watercolor studies, face & figure studies, practical ring design, and a FUN concert.

as always, crits are welcome. as are cookies.

*edit - props to rubina8tor for www.skullsunlimited.com ...a TREASURE trove of skully goodness! this will help my studies a ton; THX!

falchion - hey dude! thx for the visit. glad you dig it...we can dig it! take care, dude, and i'll see you in your world. GO NY!!!

wit - touche, my friend! lolz. definitely, man. some of the best work on "life drawing" has come through riding the trains, or the buses, or waiting at the platform for them, or other stuff like that. cafes, public transportation in general are AWESOME places for drawing from life. it's all just chances to get better, it's a process, so don't worry about being super awesome from the beginning. i'm somewhat happy with my stuff, but i always see stuff that i can improve on, and so i keep on. i look at people like Lok Jansen aka Tensai (Train-Sketches), or Aberzheim, and others as well, and i'm just like, well, gotta keep pushing. but i like it, that helps a lot. have fun with it dude, just don't ever be satisfied. g'luck man, keep showin that hot stuff!

life stuff's been movin on, movin on. and it's AWESOME!!! anyway, some paintings, i'll put up some scans soon. tonight, toniiiiiiiiight...it's laundry. yay.
