faust - thx man! i think i'm learning.

ditch - haha. it was toOOOOTALLY accidental and unplanned. just kinda ran with it. yaaaay for happy accidents! definitely post if you do something similar; waiting to see it.

so, this week there WAS a model at the MFA. i got there late, and after being told the wrong location and wandering for a bit, i finally found the place. the model was a guy doing some really weird and awkward poses, and i was kinda like, , but after sitting down to draw for a while, i found it reeeeeally challenging. seriously, he wore me out, and i was only drawing! it was a real workout, and i was exhausted afterwards. so, to conclude, he was the best model i've ever worked from so far. i'll have to go back for more. aaaaaand...it was free.

anyway, life sketches, and some illustration work for my dad. enjoy, and see y'all soon! tuduloo!

Great drawings, man! I like how you fleshed out the illus in those thumbs first. But honestly, this is dope: http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1244137515

Is it too much to ask that you make more in that direction?

As for the illus, I think for the graphic effect you seek the values might be a bit too equal on some. For instance the bird, it melts into the background.

But it's alllllll gooooood mate! Take care!

    Hey Aaron,

Nice progress going on here, good to see improvement. I think what would help with your sketchings is to block out the perpsectives and basic planes first (esp in the faces). That bit of construction will make the rest of it easier. When you are shading, try to only work in three values (try using markers for this initially), and you'll be able to produce more realism in less time.

When are you getting in on the COW/CHOW? Hows that enviro you were working on? See yinz Monday.

    Cheers

    Improvement! I sense it!

Really, your pencil line is looking beautiful lately. Like Faust mentioned, I fell in love with the contour sketches. Wonderful sense of form.

The graphic pieces are really fun and I like the style. Keep experimenting!

faust - hey dude, did i miss your birthday? happy belated b'day! hope you had a great one. for the illos, i just worked over top of the thumbs, so that was pretty easy...good thing i was happy with them. only had like, a day and a half from request to deadline, so it was a confidence boost to work fast. some things could be better...mental notes for next time. my dad was giving a presentation to a mens group at his church, and he said they really liked them, so i'm glad. i thought of you tonight at figure drawing...can you tell? thx for critiquing my sketchpage composition all that time back, too. i'm working on it a lot more, and i think it's helping a lot, so yeah, thx. see your stuff soon, man. take care!

jush - yo man, good to see you monday as always! perspective stuff, we talked about...thx for helping me understand. rendering and value stuff, definitely need to keep working on that. i'll bust out the copics. COW and CHOW...NEVAR!!!! nah man, i really don't know. i enter if its something that REALLY interests me, or that i have a good idea for...so much other stuff to work on at the moment. i'm getting more illustration and portrait commissions, so that's been good. that illustration i was working on before, it's ok, but needs a lot of work. i didn't really plan out much in terms of composition, but moreso the pose needs work. so, i'm working on that, hopefully i'll finish sometime soon. work hard at that CHoW, man...you'll get more votes than i would, i'm sure. g'luck!

asa - thx dudette! i'm workin, as you can see. definitely want to develop my cartoony side more, maybe do some children's books and illustration like that. we'll see. thx for stopping by, and we need some asa updates! post soon, ok?

ditch - thx man! just experimenting lots; style will come. also, i did a little paintover to show you what i meant about the samurai...i'll post that in your thread. see you soon man!

mfa and train sketching, things i'm working on. go (Bionic) Commando!

ditch - we worked on it all at the same time...what's left that i did is the clothing, haha. was lots of fun, interesting to see how differently people can work.

retouched...i should get to the shadows too...they would be affected by the quality and character of this light as well...

hey man....when drawing from life you REALLY have to pay attention to anything that presents measurement. Im talking about the body here not pencils or pens etc. Cause the body is flowing and ever changing. Like for instance, to get the correct distance from hip to hip while you are drawing look at the negative space between an arm and a hip or use your pencil to squint and measure lengths with it. Its reallly hard to do live figure drawing...but once you find something to help you measure things out correctly it all falls into place (sometimes

But this is great. I havent seen you do life drawing in a while....wish I could do the same but $25 per sit in class down here = bullshitake mushrooms. Pisses me off

I hope this all makes sense as i know i can ramble a bit sometimes.

nice touch up on that monocle dude... studies are cool too - the more finished one on page 11 is really good - though her head seems to be a bit small (maybe the model had a small head).

tet - dude, what are you talking about?!?! most of this recent stuff has been "life drawing" ...just with clothes on. good call on the proportions. i see i had a BIG problem with the heads...her hips were reeeally wide, but maybe i made them too big? i'll have to pay attention more next time. in general, i don't like to measure. for me, the goal isn't getting something to be exact, but to be believeable and understand what the model is doing. not copying the model (or piece), but analyzing it and making it my own, like Vilppu describes (course...he's waaaaaaaay better than i am...). negative space, check. thx bro, and thx for the support. maybe you can get some figure drawing done in class. while your students are stretching, whip out the pad and do some 30 sec/1 min gestures, or something. :p hey, it's free! really, i hope you can find something out there man. do what you can, i guess. talk to you soon, and i can't wait to see the new sketchbook!!

ditch - hey man, thx! i could probably work more on the monocle dude...we'll see. yeah, heads are not quite the right size. i'll do better next time, hopefully. page 10 (with the 2 poses) was my favorite, though the head on the one is waaaaay too small. she looks pretty.

sargent studies, and a free portrait. anatomy study to come next time. until then!

Aaron, thanks for all of the reference that you loaded up for me. I'm still going through alot of it, but its quite enlightening. I'll definitely be working the Reilly Method. Also, I found another artist named Henry Yan (http://henryyanart.com/) who has some really nice work (I also ordered his book).

There is a link I found whilst Googling the Reilly Method, not sure if you have it yet: http://www.dhfa.net/Artiststatement2.html

ditch - glad you like the portrait. the guy liked it too. it's been while since i've done something in this style, so i'm trying to work it all again. as for samus, i want to turn that into some sort of painting...just have to make the time. great to see you as always; keep working hard man. i'm loving your colors, water and other.

mfa, train sketches, and a warmup exercise. trying something different tonight, back to copics after a long hiatus. too bad they all died tonight. value and tone, simplify simplify. mata kite ne!
