those facial studies are pretty damn decent Nate I having some issues with your anatomy and foreshortening though. Keep plugging away at that Brigman book man. George is the man! It was great seeing you the other week.. even if we didn't talk to much. I'll be at sketch group this Saturday so try to make it out homes! btw check my book again, I added some filler to go with the heads lol

Raen: < 3 you sexy Canook

This is a character that wears a scarf. The scarf has knitted hands on the end that he can control with his mind. The hands can push small items and help defend in a fight but not much else. The hands are also very weak and can be torn or ripped. His name is Avernus and he is pretty much the lamest character evar.

(also, I just realized that my monitor is pretty messed up...and it probably looks a little too dark on a regular screen)

NATE wow you've made giant progress already, in your studies and your sketches. i'm partial to this one: http://home.comcast.net/~bissett5/rosegirl.jpg [ lost and found forms] very much like mucha. these pages are all over the place, it looks like you're trying a lot of different ways of doing things.

Very nice - Your control of the graphite is nothing short of amazing! Your images 'from imagination' is improving greatly too - beautiful studies! Keep it up! Oh, btw - if you want to study colour and not have everyone staring at your attempts here, try this thread. hehe, that's where I'm hiding out - it's great for stumbling around and not worrying about it!

thanks. School is going well, but work is killing me (and my back). Haven't drawn as much as I need to.

school drawing (<--got instructor help on this one...had the nose drawn and edges cleaned by a teacher).

Well my server space is down now, so none of the pics above this post are working. Anyway here is a drawing, and some quick ones. First two are ref'ed.

Hey there, one2hit (hehe love that name). Your fresh post looks great, really like the approach you did with them popping out of the shadows (especially the last one of the guy peering in). Too bad your server is down so I can't see your earlier works and compare it to the new ones, but I like what I see so far! Post more!

Btw, regarding your question, its real easy, I googled a nice pic of a marble surface and used it for my bg. Instant texture, man. Fast way to get favorable results if youre feeling lazy, hehe. You can also use pics of diffferent parchment and paper.

wha? I don't know what happened to my post (I think it was posted when the forum was acting strangely) Anyways I haven't felt like posting here, but I thought I'd post this one. I think too many brush transparent brush strokes on top killed my value scale.

I don't ever use Photoshop, and I'm finding it frustrating and time consuming to blend values together. Normally I've used Opencanvas and the values blend together when they make contact with one another...if anyone has some tips or pointers that'd be great.

Lovely thread, man. I hope you keep update and more often at that! That SP is really great! I hear ya on the color fears tho. Perhaps we might overcome it someday! Heh. Keep up the great work. I think you can really push those faces even further. And when you do, watch out! They're gonna be awesome!

How do you approach your drawings? do you go straight for the shadows? do you focus on edges where to put hard or soft edges? if you could do a tutorial as to how you approach a drawing that you would be really helpful
