    My latest

This was an old sketch of mine"the monster in the middle" I painted the
flames and colours in painter. Then took an old fractal render of mine and
painted and blended the two into this floatting Cthullu

not sure the direction you are going here...if you want more realism then get reference of how the edges of glowing things will cause their light and color to blend into the background...soft edges of glow...even color shifts where the glows happen....

the background could be designed to work with the image to a greater degree. putting it on a black layer and erasing around the edges looks just like that....dont be afraid to paint in the background in subtle, simple, or even drastic ways until it suits your needs better.

I'm not sure if the fractal part is really helping. I think it'd look better without it. The center piece alone is nice, the fractals kind of make it distracting.

Yup, right now it's looking like you don't know what you're trying to do with it - so it's looking like a t-shirt iron on or something. I like the colors but the form in the middle doesn't feel really very solid and the glowy-scarfy things aren't adding much to it.

Maybe you need to think more about what you're intending - critiques of a general nature saying "what are you trying to do" probably aren't that helpful to you.
