Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4

I've been putting this off for a while, so now I shall put my less-than-perfect sketches on CA. So, here we go...

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
Don't ask me about the bride

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
A study of a portrait of Bob Hope by Norman Rockwell. Not particularly happy with it.. I think I'm going to give it another go and see if I can do it better.

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
Tattoo design for a friend of mine.

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
    Random OCing with Inpho.

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
This was going to be my thunderdome submission in San Fransisco. Then all the polycounters wanted to go see the Zbrush demo (hey, it was catered!), so I missed it. Ah well.. next year hopefully.

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
    Just a portrait..no reference.

Tully's Conflagration of Hooplarious Oddities: March 4
Life drawing. Turned out as a pretty good likeness.

    More to come!

Less than perfect doesn't mean they arent' beeeeeautiful! I haven't seen the Rockwell version of that Hope portrait, so I dunno if it was already exagerrated...but given the strenght of the rest of your stuff, I'll assume it is and not comment on it.

    Everything else is just wicked!

    Cool stuff.

Sorry we dragged you off to the ZBrush thing... I thought it was pretty interesting though... and hey, it had dinosaur!

    What's with the bride?

Loving the pencil works up there, would like to see some of those more in detail, with maybe a bit more contrast in them... Really dig the tattoo design and the thunderdome bit as well as the greyscale portrait there!
    How about some color now?

    cheers

    Excellent stuff!
You have a great soft rendering, very clean!

There is not really something to critizise... perhabs get a bit darker with your pencil...although it is not really necessary here!

Fukifino: It was a little exaggerated, though I messed up a lot on the nose and forehead. Rockwell was a genius, so it worked better when he did it. Thanks though!

MoP: Seeing Bay Raitt's stuff was worth it! I'm glad I went.. just sucks that we had to choose one or the other.

Hyver: Colour? Lemmie see what I can dig up...

Xaya: Yeah, I do have the tendency to go a little light on my pencils. If these were full renderings I'd be more careful, but as sketchbook stuff goes, I'm not too worried.

    And now, some more...

A colour study for a painting I'm planning on getting done. I think it needs a bit more punch, so I'll do some more work on it.

Just a drawing for a sculpture I was going to do until I realised it wouldn't fit in my oven with the dimensions I wanted. It's currently in the process of being modelled in Maya.

Something I did a while back for that alternate Spiderman character thread. Almost everybody did venom. Carnage was always my favourite, but meh.

Evil fish. The top one reminds me of a coelocanth.

I forget why I drew this, but it came out fairly wel.

Some stuff here is brilliant. I dig the light in your b/w portrait,
small occasional issues with symmetry. Todays small color figure is excellent though. I love that it's so simple.

Hey, I hadn't seen that Carnage one before! Cool stuff... although I think his right leg should have been in a different position, his pose looks a little weird to me there.

Love the fish! Do they have... underwater weapons? Don't you go too near the trout!

    Here are some new things.

Some character portraits from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I figured I'd better do some before the movie taints my perception forever.

    Sketch for a hokey painting.

Doing some 3D modelling.. just some ideas for a costume for one I'm working on.

    And lastly, a self portrait.

    HHGTTG! Hooray!

Love those character drawings. The way you did Arthur Dent is pretty much exactly how I envisioned him, bonus points for you!
Ford Prefect is very cool too, great sense of depth and character. Personally I prefer fluffier towels though! His right hand looks really odd to me... like it's got no bones or something... then again, he is an alien, so I'll let you off! 8)

Pegasus + kid wearing blanket = hokey, maybe, but even hokey can work out if done right
I'm not sure about the wing position, because it looks like the horse is raising the right wing really high, while the left wing is in mid-flap... then again, what do I know about avian wing motion?

Good start on the costume design, I like the hairstyle but I think you could go for something even more extravagant in the clothing department... It just doesn't seem that "original" at the moment... try messing around with some more designs, look up some nice period costume reference and try to adapt it to some futuristic/fantasy setting (as you appear to be going for with the hair/headpiece dealie). It's not a bad costume design so far, but it's not really telling me anything about her character. Go nuts!

And hey, it's you! I can't crit that... you know what I think
    Get thee to a hairdresser!

A nice update here. We approve!

You obviously know what you're doing. Very nice pencilrenderings. The balance between the more harsh strokes and softer ones are very well done.
