    Xpose:
concept: Skudge- a cousin to a leech it finds it's way in your body through contaminated water (in egg form). Then after it hatches it travels through you intestinal track using it's arms/ flippers. It secretes a chemical so you never now when it's feeding but you definitely can feel it moving around. Infection of this dude can prove to be fatal if not detected early.

    Gloklund:
concept: Here we have an adult Malerondia Analicthys, better known as an Anal Fish Noodler.
The Anal Fish Noodler can grow to 1-2cm from snout to tail barbs; they are common in a variety of barnyard animals from goats and sheep to pigs and cattle. Like many parasitic organisms, they feed off the hosts blood supply firmly imbedding itself in the hosts anal cavity. Here the Anal Fish Noodler burrows its snout into the fleshy walls and feasts unbeknownst to the victim. However, not as common in human beings their egg larvae are still transmitted via undercooked meat products from these farm animals. There have been several documented cases of children succumbing to the ill favored effects of these parasites through ingestion, some of the tell-tale signs of infestation are high fever with vomiting as well as gastric pains and anal weeping.
It is very important to address the issue of infestation with a hot vinegar enema and an appropriate dose of Tylenol. Left untreated patients are susceptible to high anxiety, night sweats, fever blisters in the anus, horrendous anal itching and uncontrollable stools. Remember to always wash your hands and always cook your food thoroughly.

    Prometheus|ANJ:
concept: The Itarian celibacy colony on Harthos 4 had to evacuate two weeks after deployment due to a most unpleasant encounter with the larvae form of the indigenous Proton beasts. It attaches itself to the body of a host, which is normally a giant mudskipper which dwell in the swamp regions on Harthos 4.
However, they also developed a taste for the colonist's... rear regions. Several of the Itarian colonists actually died from embarrassment (dying from 'emotional peaks' is a actually common cause of death among the prude Itarians).
The Proton beast lavae feeds on the excrement of its host, and by attaching itself to the anus of the host it assures that no competitors get access to the 'food'. Its digestion system is so developed that the lavae doesn't actually have an anus. During a period of two weeks it will grow to 20 times it's original size and a diameter of 40 centimeter. At this point the host is too encumbered and is no longer able to gather food. Because the host is no longer useful, the larvae detaches.
After detachment it quickly cocoons, and a fully developed Proton beast hatches only a week later. The Proton beast got its name from the fact that it can shoot lethal proton beams through its eyes!

    ack:
concept: Fido had been losing weight recently, and upon further investigation they found this "little" critter. Latching on to the walls of the large intestine with its clawed tentacles makes sure everything that goes that way goes through the worm too and leaving through its rear opening.
Pictures show the worm with its former host, "Fido, who can now be reunited with his owner after a horribly long stay at the vet) and the worm posed next to a human for size refernce.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    bracomadar:
    concept: Butt duck
This parasite can only enter your body if you sit naked on a raw duck. For those foolish enough to sit naked on a raw duck and contract this horrible little critter, death will not come quickly. The Butt Duck will stick his barbed tail into the wall lining in the intestines. It will then lay its eggs into the bloodstream. The eggs will travel to the victim's brain where they hatch and cause havoc there. The victim will suffer brain damage, resulting in a waddling walk, constant quacking, and an uncontrollable urge to swim. Death soon follows these symptoms when the infected individual jumps off a cliff/tall building believing he can fly.

    Thestral:
concept: This is one creature that refuses to accept anybody else’s views as correct except its own. It attaches itself to Internet forum threads and proceeds to spew out mean comments then feeds off the negative responses that follow. Most viewers describe this stubborn little creature’s attitude as being very anal and therefore dub them "anal parasites".

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    MIKECORRIERO:
concept: usually most humans are infected when they become in contact with some kind of rusted metal. This little critter cuts it's way through the anal cavity with its sharp claw like feet of which there are 4. When it finds a nice cozy spot it likes, it burrows on in and attaches itself firmly with its hind legs and begins to feed. When the anal parasite reproduces, "KISS your ASS goodbye" Thousands of small larva-like babies will begin to reproduce and eat at a rapid rate until the host has become deceased. It's an awful sight as thousands of these gnat sized parasites pour out of the body in thier adult forms.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Baaaah!:
    concept: Aquatica Anallius Lodgius
Also so known as the 'SkinnyDippers Surprise'. A water bourn parasite that gains access to the human body via the annus. Once inside it claws its way up the annal passage till it reaches the connection point to the bowel. It then lodges itself in the pipe using the spines down the sides of its body, with its head protruding inside the bowel. It then collects lumps of plop using the arms situated on top of its head and slowly consumes them via the tendrils located in the mouth region. Waste materials are ejected through pipes at the base of the body.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Matt Dixon:
concept: Unlike many anal parasites mentioned here, the 'Sewer Vampire' does not feed on the host's excrement, nor does it pose any serious health risks. This unusual predator makes it's home in large sewers, and feeds by sending it's long proboscis along small waste pipes fed by domestic toilets where the 'mouth' ( sometimes known as the 'strawberry' ) rests out of sight in the U-bend. When the toilet is in use, the strawberry is quickly inserted through the host's relaxed sphincter, and a hollow barb is released which punctures the wall of the anus allowing the creature to suck blood from the victim. Though quite invasive, the feeding process is usually unnoticed by the host as the strawberry is studded with glands which secrete a powerful contact anaesthetic. Interestingly, a side-effect of the strawberry's secretions is to produce a sensation of mild euphoria and well-being in the host, meaning that the brief feeding cycle is rarely interrupted and may go some way to explain why some humans seem to enjoy long periods sitting idle in the bathroom.
The creature's tastes seem to be quite discerning, and it will often revisit a host which it finds palatable many times - it is estimated that most of us will experience a 'relationship' of this kind with this strange animal at least once during our lifetimes.

    leckronium:
    concept: The dreaded Chairasite
It's also a good place to warn you about a parasite I've heard of. Although I don't think it's called a parasite but a chairasite. No one really knows for sure what one looks like since no one has ever lived to tell about an encounter with one. I illustrated for you what I know based on myths and stories handed down from generations. The "chairasites" actually form a creature known to take on the form of a very comfortable chair in its adult form. A weary individual, looking for a place of rest, cannot resist the urge to sit on its very generous offering. Once the individual sits they break what is actually the egg sac on the creatures back. The tentacles hanging from the horns attach to the victim and prevent them from escaping. The larvae then enter the individual through the posterior and proceed to digest everything from the inside out. The adult chairasite then sheds its victim to wander off to die having fulfilled its purpose in life and leave its offspring a chance for survival., This cycle is very quick and unavoidable if one does not know what to look out for. The only advice I can give is be careful what you sit on. It eventually could bite you in the arse. Good luck!

    Leion:
concept: Rectumus Geliatus: The specimen on this picture probably wont make
it. The Rectumus Geliatus, or Bungworm as it's commonly called,
normally dwells in the warm waters of the rivers and springs in Southern
Africa and normally chooses larger water-animals as hosts, such as
    hippos or Crocs.
Humans carrying Bungworms is very unusual, but my guess is that
this man spent a lil too long in the swimming around on his last safari
    trip.
The Bungworm mother can spray up to 800 eggs into one single host.
However only one of the larvas survives by eating it's siblings.
The one depicted here is in it's final stage. As it leaves it's first nest
to join the water it swells up to almost ten times it's previous size,
both to maintain the heat and to look more intimidating.

    Hanuka:
concept: Endoparasitos Godzillum (couldnt come up with anything more stupid)
Named after his first known host, this parasite descends from early shrimp-like lifeforms and lives in open waters. It is of microscopic size and usually gets swallowed with sea-water by animals and swimmers.
Its resistent exoskeleton can be shut completely and thus protects this little fellow from stomach acid. It ends up in your guts/anus, where it nourishes from things you don't want to hear about. Really.

    fungi:
concept: this sucker lies in wait on beaches near human inhabited areas, buried a few feet below the surface of the sand. feeling the vibrations of a human passerby above, it blasts from its hole and into the unsuspecting humans anus using its gas filled sack at its centre. once inside it digs its claws into the anus wall and sends its slime covered tendrals through the body of its host where they drain nutrients and send them back to its body. the host eventually dies of a combination of starvation, excessive blood loss and a compacted bowel. the parasite remains inside the decomposing corpse and takes full advantage of the nutrient filled flesh. it eventually slithers from the corpse and attempts to make it back to a sandy area, rolling on its side using its tendrals to pull itself along. this species has decreased emmensly since the invention of pants and has been forced to pray on other large unclothed creatures such as cattle and sealions.

    Jull:
    concept: Polylumbricus Vampyrus™
It's a parasite which takes big aquatic mammals as host, it manages to get in along host's prey and goes through the digestive system to the extretory system. It pinch any "wall" with its main needle, and then, with his multiple tentacles, starts sucking blood from the host and eating feces (yes, multitasking!) as a nutritive complement in order to engender healthy breed. Young specimens will leave the host in search of a new one because it is a very territorial race. Mature specimens won't share a host either.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    BIG BRUTICUS:
concept: This parasite is a cybernetic life-form created by corporations for marketing purposes. It's placed within food stuffs in its compact dormant form. Once ingested it expands in the lower intestines and roots through our waste to catalogue the food we eat and compile data to be sent to the corporations R&D department. The parasite also has defensive capabilities to dispatch other marketing parasites it comes in contact with.

    Fozzybar:
concept: This is peynindi assus, a really nasty parasite, which is living in the anus of humans and animals...they don't know much about this lil' critter, since they just found a few individuals yet...
Some scientist are of the opinion that this creatures juvenile form looks like a condom and it is the result of genetic experiments by fundamental believers...who spread this "condoms" on to the market to punish the godless infidels which are scorning the word of god by using condoms...
Then again the majority of science believes that the creatures shape is perfectly adapted to its purpose of a parasitic living in the anus...a victory of evolution and nature...
So this recent fond of science - peynindi assus - is the latest example of human-being split into two parties...religion and science...

    arteric:
    concept: "The Surge Worm"
The Vermis Undisonus, or Surge Worm, has been nicknamed the “Puppeteer Parasite” by the scientific community due to the unique nature of it’s parasitic invasion. It’s enormous size at adulthood (larger specimens have reached 25 feet in length and a weight of nearly 1 ton) make it one of those rare parasites that remain outside of it’s host during the feeding cycle. The Surge Worm has no developed digestive system of its own, and has evolved an interesting way of getting it’s food supply. The worm has three elongated upper appendages that invade a host through the rectum. Over a period of 24 to 48 hours, the worm not only infiltrates the full length of the digestive tract, it also extends a secondary tubular feeler that embeds into the hosts spinal column. Through thousands of small synaptic tentacles, the “Puppeteer” takes over control of the hosts nervous system. While not capable of absolute control, the “Puppeteer” can manipulate all major appendages as well as the chewing and swallowing functions of it’s various hosts, and render them unable to resist or attempt escape. It can then force the host to ingest food which it absorbs after the material has been digested by it’s new “external stomach”. The Surge Worm can live off an individual host for varying lengths of time depending on it’s size and capacity for food consumption.
One recorded case of human contact involves German biologist Otto Weldkampt. In August of 1989, Mr. Weldkampt disappeared from a survey team exploring a remote Central American mountain range. Ten months later, and 60 miles away, construction workers digging the foundation on a new resort uncovered a Surge Worm’s lair, and found Mr. Weldkampt in the “Puppeteer’s” grip being used as a host. The workers killed the creature and rushed the biologist to a medical facility where he passed away forty-eight hours later due to massive internal injuries, extreme malnutrition and dehydration. Before his passing, a translator speaking to Mr. Weldkampt was able to determine that he had spent the full 10 months in the Surge Worm’s grip. Although unable to control his own body, he was completely aware during the entire infestation. An experience that had not only left him physically devastated, but completely insane as well.

    Pantmonger:
    concept: Plated barb fish
The 'Plated barb fish' also known as the 'Hook head' is a small parasite, about the size of an infants finger, that makes its home in the human bowel. Here it swims up and down stream as if lead by whimsy and the currents until is finds a suitable area rich in nutrients and where blood flow is near the surface. Once this area is discovered it imbeds its head into the lining of the bowel wall, hooking itself in place so it can not be easily dislodged. Its barb causes the subject to bleed mildly and suffer minor spasms and contractions due to the irritant in the bowl wall, this stirs things up a bit and allows the parasite to ‘sit back’ and absorb the rich flow through the exposed osmotic membrane on the back of its head.

    Stitchface:
concept: 'Tyranus Nitidus Rectis'(slang term- "Flower[ing] Butt Worm" Recently discovered on the second moon of Migos4 of the Phalactus System. Discovered in cave-like rock formations, by colonists surveying the moon. Slime fungus would feed on the minerals in the caves and would excrete an acid like waste, which in turn would errode a complex laticework of tunnels similar to swiss cheese. The fungus would then build up on the inside of these tunnels to form a soft narrow tissue-like lining similar to certain features of the human anatomy. The worms live in the tunnels feeding on the fungus and other food sources found in the intestine-like tunnels. Since the conditions were similar to our colons, they quickly adapted to the new hosts[us]. They reproduce by a form of air born, spore-like eggs that float along until being lodged in soft moist substances with the right conditions. We believe that the first humans to be infected either inhaled them or drank water contaminated with them. They mature rapidly, starting out male then change to female at the end of their life cycle. They can easily be treated when in the immature male satges but must be removed surgically when matured to female (spawning) stage. When ready to spawn the female opens up like a flower, with a proboscus needle in the center, with an eggsac on the end, spewing forth thousands of eggs. The average size of a mature female is arround 9-12 inches in length, with largest known case being 27 inches in length. The head is actually the red squid shaped end while the flower is on the rear of the parasite, which protrudes from the hosts anus looking like a flower blooming.

concept: The Anus Asperatusphlyius is one of the most common parasites known to man. Commonly known as the "Super Size Me" parasite. This parasite is created when cholesterol build-up is formed by eating most fast foods or heavily enduced cholesterol foods. The parasite makes its home in the intestinal system and creates a blockage which makes humans fat, sloppy, and very constipated. It is not known how this parasite mutated into it's now known form. What is known is that it hates fiber thus, by eating a high fiber diet can be destroyed. So, remember the next time you enter McDonalds and want to order those super sized fries.... You have a friend just waiting to be born!

I voted for Gloklunds. The reason is that i think his parasite looks the most like the real deal, I just wouldn't like that thing up my butt... That goes for all the creatures here, but many of them, although great pieces of work, are too bulky or too funny to be completely believable. When it comes to anal parasites, I think less is more.

this was a hard decision, honestly. there are lots of good concepts and well-crafted artworks, but to me Prom and Stitchface took the cake.

In the end, i voted for Stitchface, but it was really on par.
Prom: You hit my sense of humor with that concept. Design and Execution are incredibly good, just as usual with your work. Your art is some of the most inspiring on here - so you better be posting more stuff again

Slick design on yours, too, Stitchface. Linework and Coloring are top of the notch. Good lightning, especially on the male one. These colors freak me out. The overall concept is well done just as well.

So here goes the thumb! C.O.W. - #003: Anal Parasite - VOTING!!!

I voted for arri. The colours are quite nice, and so is the textural feel created by the hairs. Im not sure if those are eyes/face or not on its body but the ambiguity kind of appeals to me.

My other faves were fozzys - really great way to capture that awkward/uncomfortable grossness!!

And fungi's - i always love your work man.

Well done to all. Whats the next tawpeek?

    I voted for BIG BRUTICUS

It's a very interesting concept with a nice concept-illustration...i wasn't sure about voting for him since the word "cybernetic" bothered me...i want real creatures in this activity, but at the end the creative concept and cool realization convinced me

    other favs:

    arteric:
It was a decision between BIG BRUTICUS' one and yours...i loved the story behind this image and also your though of an anal parasite was the most different from the general approach...poor Otto...

    Jull:
Lovely rendering as always...the creature has a great 3d-feeling...

    Prometheus:
    Hehe...awesome description there!

    Arri.:
Excellent one! I love the "real" feeling of it, looks like a photograph of the creature floating in a liquid...cool!

    Matt Dixon:
Very cool idea to set the creature in the sewer system and wandering to the closets from where it taps the victim, hehe...great concept, i especially like the details, like "...the 'mouth' ( sometimes known as the 'strawberry')..."...hehe...

    Great round everyone!

I voted for Prometheus. The concept is well executed. The little purple details make it look really "äckligt". But this was really though one, lots of great entrys. It was proms "geeky" description" that made me choose his...

Wow. Voting on these doesn't get any easier, eh? My vote went to arteric - all things considered, I thought it was the most original concept, I enjoyed the description and the image was fun!

It was a close call, though - also in the running for me were arri for the great image, Prom for the overall coolness of the pic and concept, fungi because I have a very soft spot for his stuff, and Mike and davi because their pics made me feel a bit sick. Everyone deserves credit for producing such a varied selection of nasty bum-dwelling creatures, though!

    Roll on number four!

    Prometheus

I voted him because I see an excellent equilibrium between concept, design, originality and execution, which makes it highly believable.

It was a very very very hard decision, this round was so great, neat entries everyone, but only one vote... It was a tough battle between objectivity and subjectivity... not sure about the stronger -_-

    Now, Next round!

There were alot of really great and disturbing ideas this time around, and I had a hard time deciding which one I felt had everything going for it. The execution on alot of these were incredible (Julls, Proms, Matt D, fozzy, Hanuka, fungi, scarn, stitchface). It makes it so hard to not want to just vote for a pretty picture. And some of the concepts were really well thought out but the art might not have been as strong as the initial idea. The one that in my mind feels like it captured all the criteria was Stitchface's Tyranus Nitidus Rectis. Not that I would want to have any kind of "relationship" with any of these anal parasites this is the one that scares me most. I don't want to even think about having one of these in me, wreathing and wriggling around in my lower intestine. All the while I'm thinking, "It's just a little gas."
Nice job Stitchface. You freaked me out and won my vote.

    Holy C.O.W. Batman, That stinks!!

Oy, this was tough. I think I spent an hour going back and forth rereading, re-evaluating everyone's works. All of these are just fantastic!

In the end though, Hanuka's got first with me. The eye on the thing really got me. I kept going back to it. The whole piece though was great. But the eye gave it a rather malicious intelligence that I found disturbing. It's bad enough to have some mean crawl up your ass, but when it knows it's mean and has got you in it's power, that's even worse!

Seriously close second: Stitchface - that thing was just freaky!

    Third: arteric - absollutley hysterical

Runner Up: toss up between Thestral (very funny!) and Prometheus|ANJ (Great rendering/description)

    Cheers all, on to #4!

I am listing my top three favorites, with my vote as number one:

    1. arteric - I thought that the illustration, description, and overall concept captured everything. I laughed, I was amazed, and I winced in agony for poor old Otto and his anus... Great job!

    2. Stitchface - I if it wasn't for the hilarity of arteric's Surge worm, this would have been even harder to decide. I loved this design. It was very well thought out and I was impressed by the rendering. It had a rough look at the same time that other parts were shining and smooth. And the fact that the flower stuck out of the ass of the host made me chuckle.

    3. Jull - This thing looked like something that would be found at the ocean's floor. The tenticles were a nice touch. It added a lot to the design of hte creature, which I liked before I even read the concept.

All the entries were good! It was very hard to decide. I was torn between Stitchface's Tyranus Nitidus Rectis and Fungi's mushroom. Aside from both being very well executed, the 'look' also makes sense. To me, these creatures are ergonomically designed to properly navigate the murky depths of our bowels. Also, both have a 'beastly' beauty to it that contrasts with what they are exactly : stinky anal parasites, eww. Touch choice, but I went with Stitchface. Your style appeals to me a lot.

I enjoyed all the creatures. The one's I can think of, off the top of my head are Gloklund's Anal Fish Noodler (very sleek design, I always enjoy your entries), Arri's orange shrimp thing (spiny and almost stylish! really pretty), Hanuka's Godzillum (I like your hues and the idea of a protective shell), Fozzy's Pain in the Ass (i know what that looks like, lol), Vigostar's SupersizeME critter (no more fastfood for me), BigBruticius' Mech-worm (neat presentation!), Matt Dixon's Sewer Vampire (first I saw it I thought now that is way to big to fit in someone's butt, but i read the descript and found it to be a most complex creature), leckronium's chair (smart design!), I seem to get mixed up by Jull's and Prometheus' creatures perhaps because of the similar shape and purplish color, but I like them a lot too.

All the entries were excellent. I'm looking forward to the next one!

My vote, and Critiques for all: Part I

OK, "Critiques for Everyone" time. I have to keep it shorter this week, but I do want to get a few positives and negatives in for each, and to know who got my vote, well... you'll just have to read.

leckronium: The Chairasite. Cool idea, different from the others. You worked form and function in together great. It is where you'd WANT to put your arse, so it makes sense. The description about the egg sack being broken by the hosts weight... outrageous. The image could have used a bit more work though. It is a fairly simple illustration and could have benefitted from more detail or a more polished finish.

Matt Dixon: An excellent illustration as always. I think your style is an inspiration to many artists on this thread, and your work pushes the bar for the rest of us. GREAT texture/brush work and Lighting. Excellent color choices, and the biology of the "Strawberry" looks great. Only downside, this creature could be 30 feet long or an inch, so without the description it doesn't HAVE to be an anal parasite, it could be a huge creature. That is the only place the image could have been made tighter and clearer.

Baaaah! I love the spiny claws, it's multi-hooked body is perfectly suited to cling in wet, slippery, awful places. I like also that it doesn't have typical mouth, so it has more of an alien or simply different look to it. It has that parasite feel to it's overall shape and design. But I think the arms feel off, it is too humanoid a feature on an otherwise creature like shape. The eyes don't quite work for me either, no sure why. Also, I would like to see you work in some texture in the skin in future illustrations, it is almost too much of a line drawing with just a hint of color. See Matt Dixon for excellent examples of texture work across the surface to see what I mean.

Arri: One of the more unique looking entries, and I agree with other's comments, it is very shrimp like. I like the hairy spins a lot, and the shape which is totally NON-human, more insect, crustacean like. I actually LIKE the fact that you don't quite know what is the front end of the creature. And the simple background works GREAT, it appears suspended in a fluid environment with almost no need for detail at all. Downside, like others it doesn't have to be an ANAL PARASITE, it could be a water monster, or an alien sea creature. The CONCEPT part only comes out in description and I would like to see a little more ANAL function with it's form... (man, that just sounds bad.)

MikeCorriero: EXCELLENT drawing. The skin is remarkable, the textures awesome and the lighting works great. I love the choice of a red secondary light source to off set all of the cool blues and grays going on. The face is neat, I love the six eyes. I also like the claw-like feet and the transparent surfaces you were able to achieve. Downsides: The mouth and hands don't work for me. The body is so alien that it's more human features seem out of place. Also, do such human like proportions of appendages ever occur in nature on something so small? I would like to have seen a more un-humanoid type face to match the body more.

davi: The color scheme is wonderful, the browns and earth tones help lend an organic feel to something so squid-alien like. How you achieved the background texture is beyond me. I like it's mouth-orifice, and the tentacles coming out of that area are great. Downside: I think your description says it all. "It's an anal parasite." No concept there to create uniqueness means that we it's not apparent in the image either. Like many others, it is an alien, a sea creature, a monster... it can be many things... so it isn't JUST an anal parasite, and the concept doesn't tie in, but falls apart.

Kresimir: That eggsac is one of the more disturbing parts to any of these anal parasite illustrations. It just looks pulpy, sickly and disgusting. EXCELLENT WORK! I love the veins, the mottled under-colors, the flesh wrinkles. It definitely says parasite just by looking at it's form before you ever get to the description. By comparison, the pincher side is very weak by comparison. It looks like not as much time was spent on that half, and the pinchers themselves almost look added on with no texture. I would like to have seen a more finished look to that side as well... if it matched the eggsack, it would have been a much stronger entry.

I.was.ink: The illustration shows ability right from the get-go. The lighting, the coloring, the 3D structure of the creature all show great illustrative concepts. The lack of color at the bottom works good in my opinion, giving it a floating, suspended feel. I love the brush strokes and painterly effect it has. Downsides: It really doesn't look like an anal parasite at all to me. It doesn't have an parasitic feel, and the almost cute eyes and buck teeth just don't work. I am all for going against stereotypes (heck, I drew a one ton anal parasite for gosh sakes) but it still has to convey the idea. I would almost assume this was just a drawing you had, and simply tried to work anal parasite into the description. Good art, not so good concept tie-in.

Thestral: I think you ignored possible votes for humorous concept this time, with a good measure of critique thrown in at other Internet Thread Posters too boot, and I applaud it. It's attitude is apparent by it's smug look (how on earth did you make a parasite look smug??) And I laughed really hard, and nodded my head in total agreement at the description. Funny thing is, for a more "joking" entry, it's rendering is excellent. It LOOKS wet, slimy, and parasite like. It might not get many, or any votes, but I'll be damned if it didn't get it's concept across JUST FINE.

bracomadar: I'll say one thing, I certainly won't be sitting on any more ducks. Like Thestral, the humor is not lost on us, and some of the description, including the hosts inevitable death, had me crying laughter. Not much I can critique here, it works for what it is even if it doesn't get any votes. I just hope you go back into more mainstream work with our next C.O.W. entry. I would love to see what that creative mind comes up with on a more directed illustration/concept.

ack: I actually found enjoyment in the simple, almost children's-book like approach to the image. There is a lot to be said for simplicity. And I must admit, I thought MINE would be the largest anal parasite weighing in at ONE TON... but I think you got me beat by 30-40 thousand pounds. The lighting on the dog is surprisingly effective for it's simplicity, it's head is the best part. I would like to see something with more time spent on it next time.... this one just felt a little too rushed.

PrometheusIANJ: I LOVE the bony structure. One of the first things I wanted to do was to create hard-looking, shell like parts to immediately go against stereotype, and I see I was not the only one. The brush work kicks plain and simple ASS. I love the splotchy color approach, the rich tonal palet, the peak lighting and deeper shadows give excellent contrast. This thing has weight to it, and texture. The mutli-faceted mouth is an excellent touch. The back half is more parasitic though, and my only downside is common to many entries, I just don't see anything visually that tells me it is an anal parasite without the description. However, it does shoot lethal proton beams from it's eyes, so it just jumped 100 points on the KICK-ASS meter.

My Vote, and Critiques for all: Part II

OK, "Critiques for Everyone" time. I have to keep it shorter this week, but I do want to get a few positives and negatives in for each, and to know who got my vote, well... you'll just have to read.

Gloklund: I think, quite simply, THE best name of any entry. Who in here hasn't used the term "anal fish noodler" at least ONCE in conversation since reading it. And the name fits it's noodle-like look. It has the appearance of being straight out of a text book, right down to the detail zoom-in balloons. The texture, the color make it look like a 70's science illustration, and it has parasite written all over it. Downside, it almost works TOO well. Strange as it sounds, it almost looks like a real creature, I guess I mean that it's appearance lacks that certain-something blast of original approach to make it stand out (This is hard to explain, and I open this up to anyone else who gets my meaning here to try and explain it better.) I like the work a lot, something just kept it from being my number one vote.

Xpose: Certainly looks parasitic. The mouth looks nasty, and the body is very slug-maggot like. But it seems pretty rushed, just a sketch really, and not a fleshed out illustration. You have a week to turn something in, use it to really define the image and work on the details. You have obvious ability, I hope to see it applied with more strength to your next entry.

vigostar: The body almost looks like an organ, a heart or kidney. I love the vein work, and the bumpy shading to the surface. It is extremely organic, and I KNOW right off it is a live creature. I also like the very alien approach to the face-like end of the structure. But it is my downside as well... While I applaud it's uniqueness, it becomes very hard to make out what I am looking at. I don't get a sense of size or scale, and I can't tell how the engineering or functionality of it's biological structure works. In the end, this could be the stomach of a martian as much as it could be an anal parasite, and I would like to see more definition to it's purpose.

Stitchface: The rendering is remarkable. The shape of the male's left side is fantastic, a bulbous, intestinal look that works so well it is startling. The organics are superb, and I love it's non-recognizable features, it just works without needing more. The coloring is excellent, and the detail in the female flower is real to an almost sickening extent. The "bud" like pollinator is an excellent touch. The lighting and color leave nothing to be desired at all. Downside: Same as many, it's an ANAL parasite more so in the description than appearance. I would have almost though it some sort of bizarre plant without the added text. However, the positives far outweigh any negatives, and in the end, this one got my vote.

Pantmoger: The body shape is very well done. I can feel the hardness of the plates (suited well to the name) and it's segmented body lends itself to many parasitic forms. I love the open portion at the back of the head, an excellent touch, and the simple multiple-eye face is perfect. Downsides: I think the plates look a bit blurred... not out of focus, just lacking in detail to really define them. The back tail fin doesn't work for me, even though the front two do for some reason. It almost looks too soft. Funny thing, even though it is it's main feature, the plates almost hide too much of it's form, and I long to see more of the little that is exposed.

Fozzybar: This made me feel sick, which means it is very well done. I enjoyed the jelly-fish like approach to it's fragile skin, and the reverse facing barbs look painfully real. My favorite part is the long, unexplained antenna feelers that run along the base. And who else gave us an endoscopic shot from INSIDE the rectum. Downsides: I guess it looks TOO condom like. I almost don't think of it as a living creature. (I know, jelly-fish don't look alive either, but they also don't look like a real, manufactured product,) While humorous and creative, I think it's resemblance to a man-made item is what works the least for me. Now I must go gag some more after looking at the smear of blood it left across the floor.

Scarn: The only person who illustrated a who life-cycle... an excellent touch. The finished fly is my favorite step in it's evolution. The insectile-segmented body is great. The brown-grey color mix on it's outer shell is perfectly done, and I love the legs and overall proportions of the body. I think my favorite part is the eye, placed unusually low on the head instead of along the top like most insects, original and effect. Downsides: I sound like a broken record, but it is an anal parasite (or in this case, fly) in description only... and once again I would have liked to see more form conveyed in either it's environment (a touchy approach to THIS subject, I know) or it's form.

Big Bruticus: The anal nano-site was a GREAT idea. It was my favorite concept portion out of all of these entries. A marketing too that works like an internet cookie on our digestive track to catalog our eating habits.... KICK ASS idea. The image was great, a schematic drawing is a completely original approach out of these entries. It's form looks suited to it's environment perfectly. Downsides: Just a tiny bit too "Matrix" like for me, by no means a rip-off, just a bit too familiar personally. And though the concept is great, do you KNOW it is an anal parasite by the look? I don't feel you do, it could be an alien space-ship. I also struggled long and hard with the "is a cybernetic robot a creature?" argument, and while it does fit the concept better than many, I just barely tilted over to the organic side in my final decision. A very close second in my listing.

Jull: Again, the image rendering and skill is astounding. The color is great, the purple tinge at the base along it's flipper like mode of proportions is perfect after the brown, segmented body. The head is great, sea-horse like until you see tentacles come out of those eye-like holes, and then it feels so alien again. That off-center barb on the side of it's snout is an excellent touch. Downside: I guess in the end it felt more like a sea monster than a parasite. Hard to put my finger on why, just an over-all impression. Maybe if that toothy-sucker was worked more into one of the two larger shots it might have worked better. In my top five this time for sure.

fungi: Can you say "phallic"? I love that it isn't recognizable in human terms, but is an instantly recognizable living, organic being. It feels like a jelly fish and squid got gene-spliced, and you know instantly it is suited for water filled and wet environments. The coloring is a shock of red top to bottom, but with enough variation in tone and texture that it works great. My favorite part is right beneath the bulbous top, that series of small openings and fibrous structure is awesome. Downside: I think the bottom works the least for me, the tendrils seem too thin or out of balance with the rest of the body, like it is top heavy. I would almost like to have seen something more crustacean like in the lower portions, something a bit stronger that could push it forward in a hard, penetrating manner. (Damn, this is getting to be a bit too disgusting, even for me.) A great illustration, but missing something in the end.

Hanuka: PHENOMENAL image. I think that eye (almost human) under the mask-like shell is creepy as hell and works wonderfully. Overall, one of the most professional, and coolest overall renderings this time around (as I think others thought too by reading some of the follow up posts.) The lighting is great, the body is cool as all hell and I love the crab-like rear leg/feelers that emerge from the under-side of the body. The monotone color scheme works great this time around, and is really hard to pull off. Downsides: The tail almost feels like an after-thought after the great body work, and seems to lack function in visual terms. And this seems almost like it is the wrong structure to be a parasite. In my mind, something of this shape has to be bigger to have the features that it does (just an over all impression.) Also in my top 5 this time around.

Leion: Even in shadow, this is a disturbing image, and I really feel sorry for this poor guy. (And I am GLAD you kept it in shadow.) The red eyes leap out at you, and those legs are great, I love that the upper portion extends back beyond the central joint a bit, it gives it an insect-like feel. The skin tones and rendering of the man work well too, lowers legs and feet are hard to draw right, and these are immediately recognizable. Downsides: The creature itself should be the focus of the piece, but doesn't appear defined enough. In the end, it is something that some guy is crapping out (or even it might be his monestrous penis, you can't quite tell from the image) and I really know nothing about the creature. The image looks unfinished too, maybe only a half-formed concept.

OK, I tried to keep to short, but rattled on AGAIN. Overall, good work this time out on a rather tough subject to illustrate and take seriously. C.O.W. keeps getting better every week. Now, I have to go to the bathroom, something is stirring inside me...

I voted on I.was.ink simply because every time I looked at this thread checking on new submissions, his always caught my eye scrolling through. Everyone's was really good. This has got to be the strangest thing I've ever got asked to draw. I'm scared to think what could outdo this. BTW, thanks for the compliments arteric. I'm glad to get the feedback

    C.O.W. Rocks!

Thanks for the kind words Fozzy. This community is a blast. I have never had the sense of involvement in an online community I have gotten in here, and I think all the artists posting appreciate it as much as I do. We learn from each other, and we are inspired by seeing so much cool work. And to think, we are just getting started.

Speaking of which, any idea yet on the topic for week 4? (WOW, by the time this one is done we'll have been doing this a month!)

So many fantastic entries, leaving me so out classed . For me, I gave my vote to Prometheus|ANJ due to the horrific, alien and brutal look of the parasite. Just an excellent repulsion / attraction look going on there. Great stuff.

arteric: Thanks for the feedback both this and last time. Such feedback is one of the main reasons I participate in this activity, that and for the fun of it. Thanks again.

Wow Artic great work!!! Not only with your design also with the coments.
I would like do somtehing similar but with my level of english this will took me all the afternon

So... my vote goes to big bruticus : I find his concept one step further than the rest, that they look more "usual".

See you all in the next C.O.W and thanks for your participation in this one !!!
    I love conceptart

Well after an hour and a worn out scroll wheel I decided on going with Stitchface's Tyranus Nitidus Rectis. Like it's been said many times already there were a lot of great entries. Some had good ideas with average execution and some made great eye candy but felt a little average in the general idea. I felt Stitchface excelled in both areas equally. My only observation ,and correct me anybody if I'm wrong, is if the female stuck the flowery part out the anus wouldn't she miss depositing her eggs in the host entirely? I'm probably being a little too "anal" about this but it was something I noticed. Maybe it's from staring at this list of great entries for over an hour trying to figure out what I liked better and why. Still a great job by everyone and I hope the next topic brings just as many good entries.

    - haha sorry for the bad pun, I had to do it

Funny thing is, for a more "joking" entry, it's rendering is excellent. It LOOKS wet, slimy, and parasite like. It might not get many, or any votes, but I'll be damned if it didn't get it's concept across JUST FINE.

Ignored the possibility of votes is exactly what I did but still wanted to inject some humor and stay part of the community! Reason: I already have a shit demon in my portfolio that I found I could only show to a limited number of clients even though it was in a feature film a few years back. In popularity, a drawing of an Anal Parasite would be right up in there. (pun intended) Anyway, thanks for the compliments on the rendering. Comedy is not pretty

Soooo, after much consideration, you got my vote for the best combined visual and original spin on the story. Thanks to your work, I’ve decided to call all Production Managers now by the nickname, “Surge”

Close second considering originality of story was Big Bruticus, and then Arri for a great rendering that just made me feel, well.... itchy inside.

Finally, a nod to Matt Dixon, because art should have a lasting impact on the viewer, and his wonderful rendering has most likely stopped me from ever enjoying my favorite fruit, strawberries, again.

Great work all! Now let's move to round 3 and all give Fozzy "The Bird"!!

    Hey Thestral, Shit Demon?

Shit demon? Feature film? Any chance this was DOGMA? (Only movie I can think of that actually HAD a shit demon.) If so, it's funny, I read your post about 1/2 hour after seeing it was on TV again.

Thanks for the vote, I have now officially passed my all time record of 3 votes! And yes, I agree, sometimes comedy is not pretty. Rosanne Barr comes to mind.

Yea. That's mine. Although I'm more proud of my designs for the animatronic angel wings that Ben and Alan wore. Really fun film to work on.

i voted for gloklund's parasite since it is a more realistic looking anal parasite.
kinda like the tape worm...but more like hookworms, that evolved to higher stage.

    Do you know the muffinman?

I gave my vote to Mike. How could you pass up a breastfeeding anal parasite? This is easily one of the funniest interpretations on the theme.
