Here's a collection of my classical drawings using charcoal and pencil. These were drawn from actual sculptures and not from black and white photos.
Wow, you sure could have fooled me. Especially the two last ones looks like BW photographs. I guess it's the way you've caught the bounced light really well in your drawings. Make them look very realistic! Nice work.
It's a long process to get drawings like these to this stage of refinement. For one thing it takes a lot of patience, to spend endless hours on one drawing, but in the end it was worth it.

very nice, i find the pencil/charcole technique very hard to do, as the graphite pencil resist the charcole, making it hard to apply charcole to a graphite-loaded area of the paper. how ddi you achive this?

were you working from photos, or were these sculptures in front of you when you drew them?

Anyway the first one of Leda and the Swan, I really like the way you drew the feathers, and the last two are amazing.
Yeah, these drawings were done by looking at actual sculptures without any photo aid, all from observation. Leda and the Swan and Satyr Children are actual sculptures from The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY. And yes, I drew these two while in the museum's collection.

nice work-- i saw the leda and the swan one in the Bargello, Florence, did you do it there or are there multiples?
hard to judge such drawings without seeing the original model. Next time your at that museum can you take some pictures at the right angle?? Your work is fantastic, but it seems there may be some shapes off here and there, and your strokework could also use some refinement in terms of adhering to the form.... but its really hard to say without taking a look at the sculptures you drew from.

Photography is not allowed at this particular museum so I'm sorry I don't really have a photo to show. Some people have been asking as to how long a drawing like this take. I can't really tell it by how many hours, but I can say that I've spent 1 to 1&1/2 months on one of them. It is really just a matter of pushing the limit, and all about training the eye to see. Thanks guys.
