    Thumbs up

    Hey QIan,
At last i can see some of your works to comment on, haha.
wow, great. Your character designing is great. U jsut need to give alittle more details to it.
Hands studies are cool, do some more of em eveeryday, but in differnt positions, hard ones.

OK, about your figures that seems the most important here, do more of em, alot more. ur still life is pretty good, practise more on that.
Your paitings are great, is it water colour?

    Keep it up Qian,
    Great start here.
i'll check your sketchbook more often.

Aw shit.....you're not even in the program yet and your watercolors are already better than mine.

They use gouache in Animation though

    Keep it up

Thank you for your reply. well, I am appying Animation for fall 2005 and most of the works here are those in my portfolios. I know that my character design is not very good looking cuz it's my first time to do it. When I tried to draw from my mind , I found that I need to learn more anatomy which is very important.

Cool, this may sound a bit odd, but i like ur chipmunk drawing the most. I applied to Animation too, I'm currently finishing up Art Fundamentals here at Sheridan.

    Good luck, =p

Your animal drawings are definitely your strongest part of the portfolio. I would put those in front of everything else. Also, your paintings are very nice! It makes me want to paint when I get home tonight.

The line drawings of hands are the strongest hand pictures. I would practise shading and getting all the values of colour/shade and avoid using strong lines just to get your life drawing skills up.

On the whole, your drawings look solid enough and that is an important part of being an animator. Good luck.

Your life drawing studies are pretty good...Your watercolours, although low res, look ok from what I can see...Kudos to your observation skills...

However, your character design of the kung fu chick indicates a weakness...She is too stiff for my taste...She also looks like she was "posed" like one of those GI Joe action toys...Also. there's a problem with the woman lying down with her belly to the ground, trying to reach up...Look at the arm supporting her body...Her bicep is in the wrong place...It's jutting out where it shouldn't... I would suggest paying more attention to how the arm works...How it twists and the relation of the muscles to the orientation of the arm...

Practice drawing the figure...First from reference, then from memory...Draw pictures upside down...It will help hone your observation skills...Do some quick sketches...Those will give life to your drawings...

    Good luck...

I really encourage you to keep kicking ass at Sheridan. It's going to be very very hard, but you'll come out of it a pro. Some of my best pals graduated (or almost ;p ) from Sheridan. They also are some of the most talented young artist I've met. So buck up and NEVER STOP !

you have some very nice pictures here =)

I particularly liked the hand studies and the animals, also as others have said your paintings look nice from this small!

I think when you shade your work it looks a lot better, with more of a value range the images pop out more, but your linework seems strong enough to be readable so it's all good.

I hope you do well on your animation course, must be some tough competition xD
