I have to ressurect this sketchbook. I love your drawings, they have so much appeal. Some of the early stuff has such a fun Arthur Rackham feel.
How about an update?

Robert, thank you so much for the encouragement and the compliment. I do have an update! A tiny one at that though -__-
I visited the MFA today and found this lovely bust of a girl from the Helenistic period. This is a reminder of the fact that I need to draw faces better and that sculpture studies are actually a lot of fun.
For intensive portfolio reasons, I had to suck it up and call Sutefu done. I am still very dissatisfied with the shading and the line weight, but I've got to let it go until round 2. Time to move on to Akai Ruku!
So, there we are. Thanks as always for looking, and rip me a new one if you feel so inclined. Crits are hard to come by sometimes

I know you're ready to be done w/ Sutefu, but in the rear 3/4 view it seems like her glasses are on the side of the head, and should've been eclipsed by the cheek at that angle. It's a quick fix at least.
You're busy, I know, but keep posting!

I remember that bust! lol always was one of my favorites of the ones there; she has really nice looking eyes. nice drawing of it, came out well especially the shading; if I were to crit it I'd say her back eye is a little high and she does look a bit bloated (she did have chubby cheeks now that I remember though). nice with the Sutefu piece as well, I like the way you colored it alot. not much I can think to crit, looks great. keep up the great work!

Thank you for the encouragement guys!
Asoir: Good call! I've got to move in a week though, so I won't be able to crack into that for a while yet. It's an awesome idea though and I should really get on that.
Waffle: Thank you Ned! And um.. there is NO NEED to post that sketch... ya hear me?!
Artkitty: Thanks for poppin in! I wasn't sure how that goggles would lay on her cheek at that angle - I tried it your way and it looked better though, so you win. Thanks so much for pointing that out!
Onir: Haha, you recognized her! I wanted to sketch her clothing/drapery as well but we got kicked out of the gallery (closing time and all). I adore that sculpture room! And I agree, her back eye is a bit off, it especially stood out when I flipped the image. Thanks for the crit!
Donkey: Thanks! Likewise, it was great to meet you too! Perhaps we can do a sketch jam at the next workshop... so long as it's not Rome. Rome hurts my savings account.
I unearthed some prelim sketches for a pilot I worked on at the old studio. I know I have more sketches of that chicken somewhere, but I think I already packed that sketchbook. D'oh!
The horse isn't a tranny technically... it's a long story and I only have permission to post these, not share the gooey details.
Thank you as always for looking!

So the Sutefu character's for you portfolio? It's turning out really well I reckon.
So you're into cartoon styled drawings?

That chicken's wasted! Awesome!!!
Are those horses odayga fanart?
Nevermind, love your sketchbook (4 stars, you're being robbed).
Keep it up!

Still alive guys...! My scanner's power adaptor was lost in my move, so I haven't been able to scan any pencils that I've been doing. But I have taken to sketching with Flash at work (That's right guys, vectors! oh NOES!) and thought I might share some stuff I've been doing over the last week or so.
Shield your eyes from my pet rats...
Behold the noble, bottom-feeding PUGFISH!
So I went to the beach for the first time in 2 months last week...
I'm starting to flex my color muscles - I'm really enjoying Flash for color work, it reminds me of working in really thich gouache. I'll try and sort out those pencil sketches when I can.. at the very least, I will have my submission for the girlie calendar soon ^_~
Recursive: Thanks much!
Johanson: Hello from the land of Smug! Thanks so much for stopping in, I've missed you guys! We should schedule a visit soon, now that I've finally settled in... the jelly belly factory awaits!
bkdev: Awh, thanks so much for that! Glad to see you've become active here!
Jeri: Yep, Sutefu was for the folio, though I'm still not stoked on her style. She needs more tweaking to my obsessive eyes...
fedezz: haha, no Odayga fanart here. I was very tempted during the whole second banning drama, but I decided to show restraint

These are awesome Steph! I love that look of vectors with a texture overlay.
In the first one, it's a little hard to tell where one rat ends and the other begins, at least at first. Although that might partly be my monitor here at work, anything above 90% brightness shows as white here.
In the one of you at the beach, your right arm gets lost in the sand. They're really similar values. Also, the wet part of your pants lines up pretty closely with the shoreline, making your pants look transparent.
The Pugfish is way too awesome to crit!
Great, fun stuff as always!

It's not your monitor, that is in fact the same color on those rats. I did it on purpose, to play with shapes and optical illusions in a way, but I agree that it's not totally successful. I want to keep that "joined" element about them without it literally looking like a two-headed rat; maybe I have some line tangents to take care of on it...
And good call about the damp jeans/tide tangent! I've been trying to pay more attention to those little, subconscious connections the human mind always wants to draw. Since the beach sketch is a quickie that I want to finish, I will play with the comp a bit more!

That pugfish is pure gold. Sucks your scanners broken, I was hoping to see some stuff from the sketchcrawl up. I cant really say anything though since I dont even have a scanner at all. Anyway, it was cool hanging out on the sketchcrawl. I'm going to try to organize another meetup this weekend but I remember you saying you couldnt make it. I'll shoot you PMs as stuff is worked out.

The silhouette on the rats is wicked. Great sketches (looking through your real one @ sketchcrawl was awesome, too)... the rat one I could almost see on a tee-shirt..
I really like how you're staying versatile, doing your life drawings and sketches as well as the cartoons and designs. It pays off to be able to do both, and plus it's rewarding personally 'cause you can draw stuff no matter what you think up.

Erilaz: Thanks hon! Wish I could see you this December ._. Maybe I'll just send a holiday Pugfish your way instead...
Jedmo: thanks dude, was great to meet you last week! I fixed my scanner issue -turns out the answer was right in front of my eyes this whole time. I just used the adaptor for my speakers for the scanner and presto!
Oldn00b: Thank you!
Zarett: Hey Emma! Thanks so much for the feedback, I was contemplating putting the rats on a mousepad (ratpad?) actually. I was blown away by your sketchbook when I saw it, btw! Mike and I's plot to kill you is on hold for now... we want to see more brain mana spill onto your pages... for now.
maxetormer: Merci! ^_^
Nineself: Hey, thanks! Takes someone witha lotta guts to admit they like chibis Lord knows I'll end up doodling more soon.
Dark: Was awesome to meet you too! Yes, we must all do another sketch jam. I will keep you all posted as to when that Aquarium trip is taking place!
Ok, so like I said, scanner is no longer an issue. So I scanned the prelim drawings for Pugfish! Yes, there was forethought involved. I'm shameless.
I think I have a recurring character on my hands...
So aside from Puggy, I took a few minutes to Pimp My Own Elfwood. Of course, I used one of my own drawings from when I was 14 years old. This is my obligatory, "zomg totally original!!!1!!1" Sonic the Hedgehog character, Twist. She's a very butch mouse and apparently a semi-ninja who has problems with flashbacks.
So I took a few minutes to take a second pass on her. I thought about making her a kangaroo rat... but I think I failed on most counts. Still, I might revisit her someday.
That's 12 years of progress for ya. Ouch.

whoa. haha i love those sonic pieces
pugfish is,as others said, beyond critting...it's just teh win,as some would say.

Carnifex - hah, thanks dude! Pugfish is still evolving though, who knows what form he could take on next... I'm thinking hammerhead shark for the next round
Just wanted to add some zoo sketches from yesterday that I forgot. These aren't terribly exotic animals sadly - I got to the zoo right when it was closing so I had to rush and stay in one area. Poo.
Fruitbats and lemurs..
Oh, the camel in the upper left was SUCH A TEASE! She was flagrantly presenting herself to this completely dense male who was just like, "ah duurrr?" and only when she got sick of trying did he wanna get busy. She, of course, did what any woman would do after such a display, and told him to gtfo. ^_~

I love the amount of personality you give to your life drawings of animals. Most people's life drawings are usually so boring to look at, but I can't get enough of yours!
Hehehe, I had a few "original" Sonic characters of my own too. I wonder if I can find those drawings.
