COW #297 - Venomous, Violet Vine-hunter
winner: Rob Powell
Concept: Violecia mantistellens
A cunning predator that mimics the Violet Vine Flower. It's a small unusual creature with characteristics of a reptilian and an insect. It's wings, though it can't fly, mimics the colours of the flowers that grow on forest vines. The flower's stamens produce an aromatic dew that attracts pollinators. This vine hunter's extendable claws produces a sticky fluid with a similar aroma to the flowers. Once caught it will reel in it's prey to it's potent fangs, whose highly toxic venom paralyzes the prey while it begins the digestion process. This creature then begins to feed on it's newly captured morsel.

COW #298 - Obsidian Plated War Bird
Concept: Daal-Reik "Sky Scorcher" by Stoneseeker
Far East lies a land forged in the fires of a vast volcanic network active for many millenia. A feared people known as the Daal-Reik have been the only civilization to successfully harness power from the volcanoes and make the land inhabitable for themselves through various machinations over time. The Daal-Reik are not the only inhabitants of the ashen land, as there are many deadly beasts that have evolved to live amongst the molten surroundings as well. One beast of exceptional mention would be the great Obsidian plated birds that roam the lands. The massive magical avian has evolved to feed on the ultramafic particles of molten lava, housing a portion of lava in a large molten egg in its core. The slow cooling of the circulating magma has plated the bird in an exoskeleton of glassy Obsidian. Known by the Daal-Reik as "Sky Scorcher", they have been trained through the telepathic means of the Daal-Reik Shamans to be birds of war when pillaging other lands for materials when in need. Up to 10 warriors can travel in the birds exposed Keel, which the Daal-Reik have hollowed out to accommodate them and their weapons and food for long excursions and raids away from home.
Concept: Blackcrown, King of the Seven Skies by Bjulvar
Incredibly few people have ever seen an Ater Testudinis Coragyps and lived to tell about it. They are extremly aggressive, and in some cases attack without sign of threat. Though, some brave civilizations around the Stalagmite Vortex have been able to let them carry their structures. The reason might be caused by the familiar smell that the stones emit in that area. Due to it's obsidian teeth it is capable of destroying any settlement in it's way while generating massive biting forces. It's wings can span up to 40 meters wide and is only barely carrying it's heavy body. Legends speak of them being created by the great Skylord to aid him in the shaping of the world. Many agree that Blackcrown is the oldest among the species.

COW #305 - Flabby, Spotted Carrion Hoarder
So, I went w/ the eyeless/underbite/leucism
and obviously he's pretty gross, so I gave him the name Mr. Bumbolgoopus to make him cuter. This guy dwells in complete darkness at the bottom of a cave, and is kind of like a nasty sad dragon cause he is all alone and eats things who come into his territory... hence the leucism and non-eyes. He swallows whole mostly rotten flesh of whatever falls off cliffsides into his cavern. He then stores in fleshy blister-like pouches and slowly errodes/eats over months. Once the contents are consumed, the sac withers away and falls off. He probably eats that too. Yummy!
The prettiest part about him is that he has dazzling spots that look somewhat like eyes (to make up for his lack of) and only show up in complete darkness phosphorescent style.
Also sometimes he sticks his legs into the dirt to keep them warm and they look like tree roots.

COW #309 - The Evergreen Giant
Concept: Semper Viridis
Although no person in living memory has ever seen this fabled creature, many swear by it's existence. Reports of sightings go centuries back and are always roughly the same, which leads to believe that there might be only a few or even just one in existence. It is said to be a most graceful being and awesome to behold, as tall as a large stag and much taller still if you count the evergreen branches growing from it's head like a most intricate set of antlers. In it's last documented sighting, it was additionally described as having evergreen branches for it's tail and mane which, combined with it's coloration and timid nature, make it extremely hard to find. Although many are skeptical, scientists have dubbed it Semper Viridis - simply "Ever Green" - and hope to find it before it dies, assuming it was ever alive or even capable of dying.

COW #314 - Cryptids Series - Part I: Will-O-The-Wisp
Concept: Will-o-the-wisp (Ignusfatuus vorax)
A nasty, nasty thing. No one knows what phylum it belongs to, though it does have some vague resemblance to carnivorous sea squirts. It uses glowing lures to attract its prey, which is, of course, people who stayed near the marshes after dark. The lures blink on and off to lead the prey toward the maw. Amphibian symbiotes that look like toothy newts from hell are always near, so even if you try to get out of the bog you fell in, they will do your in. Better stay indoors.

COW #315 - Cryptids Series - Part II: The Kraken
Concept: The Kraken
Nobody knows how we could have missed it. We've put a man on the Moon how come all our scientific equipment didn't detect something that big? It was sleeping, dormant deep under the sea but we dived too deep and dag too deep and we have awakened it. Some say we had no chance. It looked like a seismic activity under the ocean. An anomaly. Only this anomaly fought back and didn't stop. A mother will protect her young and this one is carrying eggs they say. So it destroys every ship entering deep waters and Earth will never be the same now that the myth became reality, now that the Kraken has awaken.

COW #322 - The Air Freshener
winner: Rob Powell
Native to the alien forests of the planet Faria, in the wild they are actually very foul scented. They are not very active creatures and they can be found in clusters with a noxious fog surrounding them protecting them from predators. It wasn't until recently that it was discovered that their scent clouds are based on the fruits they feed on, in some cases they can produce a rather toxic cloud. If fed sweet smelling fruits such as strawberries and oranges they will produce a very aromatic scent. Some believe that they still produce toxic vapours regardless what they are fed, even though after several years of domestication there appears to be no negative effects to humans. As long as they are not fed their native fruits that is. In fact some cases of humans with some respiratory diseases have shown an improvement in their symptoms after adopting this creature. It breathes through the slits on it's sides and it's lungs actually filter out contaminants and allergens in the air.
They came to be known as the Aromaswine, due to the scents they produce as well as their pig-like appearance and the high pitched snorting they make.

COW #323 - Epicenter of a Mass Parasitic Organism
Concept: Parasitus Rex
From: Commanding General/Special Forces for Parasite control.
To: U.N. Headquarters
It's become a fight for the ages, this organism has conquered the city and we're running out of options. We've tried every agent available to eradicate this organism, but the overwhelming consensus is that the more we throw at it, the more it grows out of control.
The current level of growth has spread to outlying cities, and the CoE believes that the (creature?) has the ability to drill and burrow its tentacles underground, they are currently attempting to map its true size through Seismograph and sonar technology.
At this point we believe we've located the hub, a giant fleshy mass which seems to have more details and differences in its physiology compared to previously found sites. Its hide has proven to be one of the toughest materials we've encountered, and our scientists are working diligently to ascertain its structure and chemical makeup.
At this stage it is believed that the the only way to destroy the epicenter is to deploy nuclear means. We have a few more tests to commit to, but the results so far have been fruitless.

COW #325 - Co-operative Symbiosis 'The Seeing Eye Dog'
Concept: Sensory symbionts
This symbiosis consists of two species: the large Brontordus and the small avian Pirillin. The Brontordus is blind but very powerful. They use tusks and claws to dig for plant seed pods and root systems in their environment, as well as water sources. Pirillin are fairly delicate, but have excellent eyesight. They can locate food and water and lead the Brontordus there through the use of birdsongs. As a result, both species benefit from the cooperation.
The Brontordus are derived from blind cave-dwelling creatures. Since Pirillin still make their nests in caves, this is likely where the cooperation first started.
