    Whatup folks.

so I have several ideas. firstly, I have this world that I've been working on for quite some time for my DnD campaign. yeah, call me stereotypical; whatever. Anyway, I'll be posting a lot of artwork for that in the times to come, since I haven't done any yet, hehe.

Glad you guys like my stuff so much.
Thanks to whoever pushed this up to 4 pages, hehe.

Chandan - hey man, thanks for the kind words. Working on that foundation. I have tons of life drawing stuff that I haven't posted due to my crappy ability to take horrible photos of it all.

    PeterLee - thanks

OBX - I can't for the life of me place the name to the face, but I recognize your sketchbook, heh.

Craig - damn straight it was rushed, and I'm not going back to it. 1/2 hour or so in charcoal and chalk. Rushed is one word for it, but it's more like "frantic." I did it in the last 1/2 hour of class before the final because I was like "oh shit I don't have a self portrait yet" thanks for the crit dude, I expect this kind of insight regularly! *wags finger*

    this1 - hey, thanks man.

The second to last in this series of pics is kind of a style guide to the Cthanac cult, one of the sects of warriors that worships the older Gods of Yrthwyl. More on them later.

That lizard on the first image is great!
It has a great feel to it, very loose.
Overall, I like the ones who have (or aim for) that same feel, the girl holding the pillow (?) is really neat too.

    Cheers!

shit - shit! I meant to post this yesterday, but with the partying and all.....

entdroid - haha, according to Jason Manley, I need to tighten up a little and make sure I get the stroke right the first time I make it.

The guys down at massive black suggested I start working in permanent marker.

a digital paint I've been working on for about an hour now.

This digital painting is going very well, only one crit: I saved it to scale it and see how it looks smaller and I think the legs are a bit short.
    Keep it up!

you could try using a pen. i sketch with a pen sometimes, i actually prefer to use a pen. they flow so much more smoothly than a pencil.

that chameleon is too cute. the blob thingy too.

    Erilaz - thanks, update below.

Cernew - thanks, see Erilaz' comment

ah.heng - I've been experimenting with different lead weights recently... I find that the harder leads flow WAY better than the softer ones (at least for me) they're just a bitch to erase though.

entdroid - right, good catch. They're actually placed too far right on the figure anyway. Fixed that in this iteration (I hope)

dCepT - Seems like a general consensus. I'll stop by your thread, I swear! I've been so freaking tired, my friends insist on partying every night before we all go off to college.

When it's done with style and emotion, I only care about proportions or values or any that stuff _if_ it actually makes a difference in that particular piece. Sure, this can apply to all works, but the careful use of particular devices seems to be so much more important in practice stuff. In finished works, all bets are off -- just make it work. And, here's the thing, even your practice stuff hits me as a finished work. So, it's hard as hell to bother pointing out specifics. All i ever seem to care about when I look at your stuff is, do I like it? And, I almost always do.

So, other than that guy holding that paper/folder thing and that inked walking person page, I like it all.

As for a specifics, the foreshortening on the hand needs some help to avoid some stumpiness. Also, I think to compensate, you made the nuckles a bit extra beefy. Looking great though.

Might be intentional... but the girl in the skirt seems very short... might be that she is, though... Take it with a grain of salt

now that he mentioned he, the girl does seem short, her hands are almost reaching her knees, even though she's slightly bent over, don't think that kind of reach would be possible. her head is also enormous compared to her body.

Hi Pandasaurus Rex. Update's looking good! Sucks that I didn't get to say my goodbyes to you in Montreal, btw. I figured you'd be at the Hostel on the last night, but alas, you were not. Next one, I suppose.

Anywho, your progress since the Workshop is evident. Your lines look more confident, which is great.

I noticed the necks on your sketches (not your last digipaint) seem a little awkward. They're generally placed 'oddly' and are too thick, especially on women.

The digipaint is definately disproportionate as well. If you shrunk down her head, I think the problem would be fixed. Unless you meant for her to be a little person, in which case, keep up the good work.

Anxiously awaiting DnD pics as well. Isn't that just the best part of playing DnD, anyway?

    Keep it up, Pandaman.

Panda! Cool stuff man, nice digi but keep in mind skintone. She looks a bit pale. Nice proportions, maybe the head is a tad bit big? Cool sketches.

I think you should check the girl's proportions once more, but I like your color attempts on it. I hope you finish it!

Ah WHAT the HELL. I wrote out these LONG, heartfelt replies, and then I accidentally cut the whole thing! WTF is up with that?!

Anyway, now that the LMSTD entries have been posted, you all get to see what I've been working on for a couple of weeks.

this1 - Haha, thanks man. It's not shredder, it's a cultist of my own design for the Cthanac (but nowhere near final) The girl is my friend Emily. Unbelievably hot girl. My image doesn't do her justice ,o_0,

    sabe2003 - Thanks!

entdroid - The colors are pretty accurate, I sampled directly from the photo. I agree about the proportions, but I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it. I'll try though!

Skeiff - A pale girl indeed. Perhaps if I saturated the overall tone more.... Yeah, the proportions are way off.

Ryn - sad that I didn't get to say goodbye either! I WAS actually at the hostel, I was just REALLY REALLY fucking tired and passed out on my bed. Next one, indeed. I'm going to try to make it to the mini SF one but I can't guarantee it. The next North America one after that for sure though. Haha, my progress after ALL the workshops is quite evident. If anyone wants to see them, I have sketches from before the last one (This sketchbook started right after SF 2005)
You're probably right about the necks; and definitely right about the proportions. She is a little person, but the head is still large. It's actually also out of perspective, she was leaning back a little. Thanks! Do you have AIM?

ah.heng - Well, this is from photo ref. and her hands were around there, but she is extremely out of proportion. I'll flip it and check all this stuff.

dCepT - She is short, but also out of proportion. Thanks for the crit!

Craig Houghton - Wow, thanks! I wouldn't consider any of my sketches even close to finished, but maybe that's where I'm going wrong! Now that you mention it, I totally agree with you about the hand. One of the problems I think is that I haven't established an actual light source. Perhaps I'll start over.

    Fellah.
    - good to see you, man! great LMSTD entry!

Anyway - I'll post WIPs of this later today or tomorrow.

WELCOME to the beginning of the end.
(this is me HOPING BEYOND HOPE that I make it to round 2)

The water DOES look awsome, love the color choices you made on it. The skeleton (ish) guy's arms look a bit short though. That whole figure it's a bit stiff I think, maybe it would have been good to make it less defined, more abstract, just a thought.
    Cool piece

Great colour choices in the td, there is so much energy evident!
Wouldve liked to have seen more elements like the skull and ship tightened up to give more areas of interest for the eye, right now the water pulls the eye around, making everything else look more tacked on and stiff.

    WIPs for you guys.

Yeah, I totally concur. The original sketch had death leaning back, as though he was making way for the ship. I painted him in and then realized the canvas was too small, but the bg was already in place ,o_0, this is me hoping I win. Match 26 is fairly even in terms of entry.

    WIPS for you guys

yeah, it would def look better with the death on the other side, and the ship remaining where it is. And I don't like that "stripe" of light you added on the last step much, it's a bit distracting, I think.

Really cool nonetheless, it's great seeing your process!
