    Landscapes: Normal Environment

Since people from many different nations are browsing this forum iwasink and I thought it a good idea to show the environment where we life (Chino California can be really different from the Ruhrgebiet in Germany). Take it as reference or inspiration or just as a simple tour around the world.

All of these were taken today on a half an hour roundtrip through the town where I'm living, the light was a bit difficult for my digicam but I think you get an impression of what it looks like where I live.

Great pics there Jester! I want to visit u now! I like all the different types of buildings you guys have. and those cobble stone roads, we have very few here. Your postoffice is humongous!
But your cars are very little and compact!:p
I like how you could litteraly take a walk in town, you really can't do that here.
Everything is so mass produced and all the houses look very similar

way off topic: can't you get thrown in jail for owning a copy of "mein kaumpf" (not sure if that's how u spell it)

I'll post my surroundings a bit later!

iwasink, thanks a lot. The main difficulty was to decide what is "normal" or even "typical" since you see those surroundings every day it's easier to choose views that are "interesting" or "new".

The cobblestones you can see are "modern", there are only very few places left where you can find original and old ones. The post office is the main in town and way larger than it should be. A former employer of mine (a lettershop) used to say that they made it that big only because of him (250.000 letters were printed and sent every month). The town is one of the smaller ones in the Ruhrgebiet area and has round about only 80.000 inhabitants. The neighbour city (where I was born and lived the first 27 years of my life) is now the 6th largest city in Germany and has more than 500.000. There it's not so easy just to walk around and you have many sub-centres.

Regarding the tiny cars: small but fast... too fast for many people (since we have no speed limit on the highways - except on the urban highways which are mostly limited to 100 or 120 km/h [must be 62-75 mph]). In fact, the town where I live is not very rich, there are areas in Germany where the cars are bigger (like Audi A6, Mercedes, BMW 7...) but still we not have that overall love for large cars [actually, we do have , but gas/fuel is currently at 1,15 EUR, that's app. 1,20 US$... per liter!!!]

Really looking forward to your photos (and will answer the off topic in a pm or on aim).

hey jester, what a wonderful idea to show where you live! i enjoyed looking at all the photos with captions! if it is all right i will try and take some photos of providence and put them together for this thread. or would you rather it be a separate thread?

anyway, how about your apartment and car etc. do you have a pet?

some shots feel familiar others have a different feel. mostly of course it has to do with the architecture. there are a lot of cube type buildings that must have been put up from the late forties to the sixties?

Over all it seems you live in a lovely place, even if you don?t have alginate around.

    thanks

    jon

Hey Jon, I wouldn't mind at all if you posted your photos here, too! Indeed, I'd appreciate it!

Yes, most buildings are from after the WWII, my town had a coal mine right next to the city (I can see it from my sleeping room window, at least the ... tower - got to check the vacabulary...) and was bombed heavily.

There are certainly nicer towns/cities in Germany but it's very convenient where I live.

I have no pets (the flat is too small and I have no time for one), but of course I got a car... yeah, I might take some more photos...

Oh.. nevermind... i don't have my camera yet so.. it will be a while anyway! I have recently seen a satelite picture of the bucharest - great detail - you could see the cars and all - still it freaked me out to see where i live. So.. i'll save you the pleasure for the time you come over visiting me! Start planning... think extreme

Been a while since anyone's posted here...

Davi, could you possibly upload these pics again? I'm really interested in seeing them!

    missing images

This sounds cool, but I can't see any of the images that Jester posted in the first two posts he did, they are all question marks. Can anyone else see them?

    Red face South Africa

Hi guys, thought you might want to take a look at some South African landscapes I took these yesterday.

Photos taken in the Western Cape, in and around an area close to a town called Worcestor

    Enjoy! Comments welcome!
