i like ur approach and ur perspective studies *do more of them.. iv done alot and it helped me to boost up my improvements up to 350%.. made cubes only for 3 month or so... good way to understand drawing basics * vanishing point - perspective - symmetrie - dynamic - foreshortening*
i see u using burnehogarth ? i love him ! his books are awesome.. one reason for that is .. he draw muscles and no skin.. which shows u how to draw them,... its fukin hard to know where and how my muscles are placed when i see skin... this why i DONT USE loomis or any others.. who draws skin and some other stuff .. when i wanna know how to draw skin.. ill use loomis *hey mister loomis .. greetings 2 ya *
think about perspective and vanishing points.. how to indicate distance and depth on 2d flat papr sheets..and try to understand how to measure proportions.. they have a special relationsihp.. .. draw stuff simplified .. bodys made out of cubes adn cylinders... it helped me to understand this really quickly
also shading always depends on its surface below... diffrent surface diffrent shading.. because the light flow is diffrent .. take lil lamp and move it around ur head while watch in a mirror or something
put somekinda cloth or handkerchief over ur hand.. the cloth will simulate ur skin which is equal to ur surface and volume
when u : 1 change ur light direction .. the shadow and light flow changes...
or 2: when u move ur fingers the skin will bulg and bend and flex which causes diffrent light flow too
the glases guy... reminds me in johnny depp in secret window
if u need some more tips n stuff.-. just ask or pm !

I'm going to expand on light and shading (from what sideshowbob wrote)
To learn light, shading and getting stuff 3d a great basic exercise is to get some cubes (you know just get some boxes) cylinders (take e.g toilet rolls paint them white will and they work better) balls (tennis ball whatever), cones, eggs. then just draw them put focus on how the shade shifts, use a single lightsource if possible, draw then change the direction of the light draw again. You will learn a lot from this exercise (not only shading) since when you draw e.g the human figure you think in simplified ways (as sideshowboob mentioned) like the arms as cylinders the head sometimes as box somtimes as an egg depending on what works best with the current lighting.
keep going... you got good stuff and as you practice you will be better.
My sketchbook flawed to the max page 5
Ps:Hope you understand my English.
Remember my advices taste best with a grain of salt.

Some oil pastels, and Barcsay, Vanderpoel, and Nicolaides.
Here's some recent stuff I've been working on. Just ten pictures I'll explain some of them.
Some oil pastels with hands, they turned out ok I don't really like them but I think oil pastels are kind of cool.
I love sphere kind of dark they came out to be withg my scanner.
More spheres a play on colors.
A hand in oil pastels, I don't like again.
My friend Lane I love his facial expressions, no I'm not gay.
My sister said this seemed sinister I just like it kind of but I wish I rendered the shading better.
Barcsay anatomy studies (I need to continue lol)
Barcsay muscle studies.
Im trying to get better at getting the form and doing faces from my head but so far I;ve just been drawing each persons face in TIME magazine. Hopefully, Im hoping this will help. Also using Vanderpoels to get thoose eyes to look corrrectly like deep and meaningful.
Thats all /

For the age of 15 you draw very very well.. Just keep it up. Mileage matters. However I suggest you try to define more with fewer lines. Currently you go overboard a bit with shading and some of your lines seem uncertain.. Scribbly.
But you got a damn good start.

First time actually doing this cartoony type stuff. Most of my previous art teachers denounce that "evil" anime style, since thats what most teenagers taking art are prone to draw maybe.
Monkey see monkey do.
This idea popped in my head last night, about a cartoon full of sandwich peices that fight fast food restaurants. I guess sandwiches are healthier. This Mr Pickle
Bad water coloring. I seriously need to get professional classes.
Palm tree o palm treee.
Dont think im ever going to finish. I was doing this for a girl but when i worked on the clouds I found out that it dried and my sun looks horrible as well but I DONT THrow away my art work if im displeased, I think all of my art has a soul of its own and if I threw it away its like throwing away myself... Weird I know.
Im working on some other peices expect another post by Thursday or Sunday of this week.

This is a mannequin hand I got for free from nintendo I thought it would make a good barque(sp?) so I copied it but I didnt bother doing the barque type efect. Ill probably do the barque effect when Im a little bit older and I need something to draw. Oh ya sccizz00rrs.
Trying to make some depth I think I achieved that on the tail thing. Somewhat..
1 point perspective I think this looks 5x better in real life. Ill do some 2 point perspective and 3 point but I always get confused. Oh ya IS IT OK TO HAVE MORE THAT ONE VANISHING POINT AS LONG AS ITS ON THE SAME HORIZON???
Answer my question please those wary of art.
Still life that proved way to much time and a hassle so I just got some references made some faces.. ya im lazy ass >
Spent a good little while yesterdya drawing this the DARk face took about 30 my face took about 2hours i was up till 3am and the femur/leg took awhile too and its still off.
I need to work on getting more details so I jsut got a styrofoam cup and scribbled away it kind of sucks. ESChers work is really aweing especially hishands the way he gets EVERY single crevice it seems. I just want to eat his drawings lol.
WATER COLORS are fun. Especially when you do a cupz0r. Im trying hard with water color I just love this medium I feel its sooo Expressive besides oil paints. But I never use em so I dont know!!
My Sanctum ie. Sketchbook LOOk for mor stuff soon I promise school is comig fast for me... 15 days so iM Going to draw my heart out before this education system swallows me whole

Howl, Ive been painting in water colors mostly.
Heres some work. Its late so i wont go into detail mostly water colors/ sketches thanks for all your critiques its really making me a better artist. Oh ya my .3mm RAN out of lead so i had to use my .9mm thats why some of my drawings may seem thicker/darker less control. But all is well I found the lead ;p'
hope you enjoi

nice work here. especially those anatomy and long studies.
i don't think anyone answered this, or that you found out on your own already. but... one object can have one vp, in parallel perspective, or 2 vp's in oblique perspective on the horizon line. in 3pt perspective, the 3rd vp is up or down off the horizon lines. And different objects have different vp's.

Just Do it
You are doing the most important part of the process <><> drawing <><> draw all the time and then some <><> you have improved since you started this thread so whatever you are doing is working just keep doing it
August 7th, 2005 #22
Youre definitely improving over the course of this thread. 100x better than I was when I was your age.
With this kinda volume of work you've been putting out, you'll be a pro before you even reach college. Just keep up the hardwork and keep doing what you're doin.

Hey NoFX, I already commented in your other thread, but I noticed that I can see the improvement much better in this one. Great strides! Great work.
Leave a comment in mine .
The advantage of being a beginner is having a much greater amount of teachers.

Sorry I havent updated in a while just been so busy, and time has been going quickly. Ive been drawing mcuh as I can/
If you have any questions about the work just post
Oh ya I did this peice for a silen auction for a charity and raised 70 dollars it feels so good.
I also did another peice, here. for this contest reflections.
Basically its about peoples mask and changing faces in different situations. Ill give you symbolism: shirt = changing state of iguana, keylocked inside cabinet = person locked inside themselves, sleeping is when we are most vulnerable. i dont think i did any more intentionally if i did i forgot but here is the picture:

I did this one a few days ago, all from my head.
A peice I collaborated with my friend I did the basic lines and she shaded. I think she did an over rall awesome job minus some flaws in the wrinkles.
A community service I did for my Vice Principal at my school.
From my head.
Freestylin in tempera
My friend rendered in Charcoal
