    Painting Lessons

I enjoy acrylic painting, but it has been a hobby that I have not had much time for in the past. I would like to take classes, or find a local mentor who can teach me some tips and new techniques. Does anyone know any artists in the DC area who would be willing to help me improve my craft (for a fee, of course)?

Does the DC area have a local community college or an arts organization where you can drop in and get some classes?? And if there is a major art college there, see about the Continuing Ed programs and see if they offer something- I'm sure they'd love to have you. If they don't have anything stop by a gallery where you enjoy some of the artists' work and see if they know of any local art haunts there.

    Good luck.

Good ideas. I think I will try the community colleges first. Many thanks.

And the thing there is that they probably don't require portfoilos for admittance and are probably geared price wise towards someone like you who just wants to paint with no grand aspirations of getting that degree.

    Good luck.

    Good Point

Yes, I don't want to get a degree or paint professionally. I just want to be able to produce better quality paintings. I looked in a local community college booklet, but they don't offer painting classes.

Does anyone know of a mentor or apprentice-type program?

This might sound odd, but check with the local art supply stores. Sometimes they have a direct connection to the people that belong to larger arts organizations and they might be able to steer you in that direction. Hopefully some of the local groups like that will also take on folks like you that just want to paint for improvement & joy.
