Why bother driving yourself when you can get someone else to do it while you get in some good sketching time?
My name is Bobby Chiu and I'm a sketch-aholic...
I've started a Toronto Subway Sketch Group. Every Sunday at 3:20pm Union Station we meet on the SUBWAY platform (not GO train).
Great fun and entertainment for a mere subway ticket ($2.25)! Everyone's invited so come on down. This will be very informal so just come on down and find us and introduce yourself.
Look around and you'll find me (Asian guy with a yellow jacket and hoody). At 3:30pm we catch a subway train and just ride it back and forth and sketch tons of people. Don't be late because we leave promptly at 3:30pm
It's a great way to meet some artists, share some tips and learn for each other.
Anyways, enough of the writing... time for some sketches. And if you are part of the group, feel free to post your subway sketches too.
digi man...those are some incredible sketches!! wonderful expressions full of life!
Great idea to start a transit sketch group!
I can only say for myself, there have been so many times in the last year, working outa' town and catching the train, I found myself looking at people, imagining their stories, recognizing their behavior, and sketching them out just to capture a certain gesture or weird face... priceless!
I do think the quicker and more spontaneous your sketches are the better they are... the last ones are a joy!
Keep them a comin!

They know what is what,
But they don't know what is what,
They just strut.
What the fuck?

Thirdeye - Hehehe.. thanks. The red guy? dunno... couldn't understand him. I think he was from outta town... Oh and sunday subways are hardly ever packed
gil - Thanks! It's lots of fun and great sketching practice. Nude Life drawing is good and all but real people doing real things (like riding on the train) just provides so much more story in the drawings!
This is the coolest idea ever! Too bad San Antonio doesn't have any transit systems. Your sketches look really cool, I like the style you have. Were all of these done on the subway? I'd imagine it would be bumpy and hard to draw.
Either way, awesome sketches and initiative, man! Keep both of them up and running!
Only the heart intrinsically noble can succeed... Check out My Sketchbook: Leave critiques, encouragement, and good jokes within.
Hey, I just found this thread, and am wondering if you ever got people together. I am from Markham, near Toronto. I would like to get into a sketchgroup, and am looking through the threads for one near me. If you guys still do this, or maybe want to again, I might be able to join in.
