Color study (digital) for Gameproject at Uni

    Hi there !

so its time again for new studies, this time with color, they kinda went ok. Im satisfied with the result. I did it in the same way as the female studies, just eyeballing the photo to see how things relate to eachother, this time i didnt copy it so much, had it like a ... refference

Time : 1-2 hours per picture.
    Program : Adobe Photoshop 7
Refference : Loosely based from photos

    cheers !

you know... even with a WACOM and PS7, I never did really produce anything digitally that was worthwhile. The most detailed use I ever make is printing out a template outline, perhaps with some color, to be printed, glued onto my base medium and painted over... like a reference, but not quite.

This is good stuff, and I think the colors agree with each other well. However, I really don't like the woman's eye sockets. Whilst they may have looked like that in your reference... I would have complained about the way they look in the reference. Maybe lighten those up. Generally I've been taught not to use black as a modifier on skin, even for shadows, unless it's part of a stylized look. That said, maybe get some more burnt umber going on, and less black. Her eye sockets look very recessed, a little too much methinks.

All the others agree with my eyes, and look like pretty decent illustration peices. I like the painterly effects.

the robot is crazy nice, i like the lighter contour you gave him. Did u use the sharpen filter at the end to mak its crisper?

I like the pose of the pilot, but i wish the botom part had bigger highlights to make it pop out more

    AWSOME JOB! im jealous

oh, now that's nice. You get a friggin' gold star for that mech picture. If it was the right format, I'd be tempted to use it as a desktop image.

I do notice a difference in the portrait of the woman, and her eyes look notably better, and they seem to have the right shape and shade for a mid/low-light setting with the angle of illumination being the way it is. Now the only problem I can see in the image is just because of my personal tastes in art (I prefer less heavy shadows for some arbitrary reason) but I can't make any substantial criticism of it.

That mech... fricking hell... so nice! Good texture and use of light... creative and
somehow emotive design too. It looks menacing, that's sometimes hard to capture (hella hard for me at least).

The pilot's facial structure, combined with the little bit of black hair showing... makes me think of Ozzy in a flight suit. Not really a critique, but that made me giggle anyhow. He could have had a better pose I guess, Pilots tended to look a little more laid back when they were on the ground, and since he looks like he was posing for a portrait... he might have had his elbow resting on the fuselage sort of the way a trucker might rest it on the open window of a truck, if you get what I'm saying. Other than that... the colors work, and with
the number of brushstrokes I see, I'm impressed how well you suggested the leather (very smooth, must be lambskin... Wested Leather of Britain, perhaps? lol)
