    Afraid I don't have any good hand reference. Bridgman covers it quite well though. And this link has a couple of 3d hands which you can rotate in space.

    Really sucks what happened with your PSD! I usually save the jpegs at 'normal' size, and then resize the images in Irfanview. Think your way is faster though.
    Great we're picking up the group project again! I really feel hyped about it. I liked your previous character sketches for defining the character. Great to see some more complex clothing now. I'm also having major difficulties with clothing. I usually draw a naked figure, then start with clothing on a new layer. And then think carefully about the clothes functionality, and which/where body parts 'support' the clothing.
    Always enjoying the asymmetrical concepts. Perhaps you should balance it more? Armoured arm on the right, more detailed clothing on the left. Now its all on the right. Like the style and concepting though. Nice to see your work process.

    #260; Real nice.. Especially this one has a very 'sculpted' feel. Arm holding the club could use some perspective - unsure if it's receding in space, or on just one plane.

    #262, #264; Nice armour designs. Legs/boots look uncomfortable. As if they obstruct the knees. They look stiff like peg legs.

    General remark on painting armour/heavy clothing; It's always lying on top of the body, so the body will look bigger. I think a common pitfall is painting the armour right on the body, which results in (relatively) small heads. While in fact the armour is where the problem is at. Something I figured out a while ago, remembered because I saw that crit by zou. I think it applies to your latest 2 armoured guys, just imagine them without the gear and they'll get fairly skinny.

    Last character is great. Slick design, great values on the head.
    Arms could use some more shape and the horns could use some more 'free space'. Else it feels cropped and crammed in there.

    I realize my comments are always stacked with criticism, but honestly. You are kicking ass.

    Anthis! I missed your crits, man! Been a while. Thanks for the crits and tips.

    Anyway, I think I'm finished with this one for now. I want to move on to other things. Overall, I'm satisfied with how this one came out in the end. It is pretty much the image I had in my head. I think I was thinking of Brom when it came to the colors and character although I was not looking at any of his stuff for reference.

    I also applied the changes Zou suggested and it came out looking much better than before. Thanks, man!

    Also, the 2nd version of it has the skull with green lights. I felt that this was too strong and it competed for attention so I actually prefer the first one. The effect is pretty cool though that's why I included it.

    the work is advancing well.
    personally the second version seems cool.
    well since you've added some greens in the eyes, why not draw a little bit of forest behind with some dark green (just suggest not really details)
    and some work on the castle to let the eye have another thing to play with

    Wow dizon, lovely looking colors! Maybe you should try to add a touch of blue to his armor, where the shadows fall.. Id also increase the size of his breastplate, he looks a bit skinny now to my eye. Try adding some birds to the background sky perhaps? Anyway, great job, want to see more

    Zou- What you said is true, man. I always look at my favorite artist's work to get inspired and motivated. It gets me going all the time. Watching art videos helps too.

    Here's a new one. I'm very happy with this, but I hope to do much better next time. Time to rest my eyes...I've been staring at this one all day...

    good progress on this one. The things you added in each post are enhancing the work.


    simple and effective storytelling too.

    one remark: about contrast and brightness. I don't know if it's my monitor or you could tweak some leveling ,or contrast to make it better.

    damn it, when i lowered the contrast, i could see the details in the clouds and the two other ships. That's make your work much better,

    perhaps i should recalibrate the monitor (again) or see your monitor.

    A new WIP. After doing a bunch of thumbnails I've finally come up with this one. Man, environments are hard haha. Not in terms of execution but with coming up with a nice idea and composition. I also decided to make it into line art first as opposed to fully painting it from scratch. It's kind of a hassle because a lot of "shifting" is involved when making straight lines. I just prefer using a ruler. I think it's faster, but unfortunately I don't have a working scanner.

    Still a long ways to go...

    UPDATE on WIP

    Changed the composition. Basically I felt it needed more open space. I also wanted to create the illusion of a really big city by playing with the scale. I'm much happier with the current direction this is taking.

    good composition: better than earlier version.

    I guess it's ready to start the big illustration.

    I like the way you're doing it methodically:thumbs->bigger size->checking composition before the final and what's next ?

    i'm very glad too see improvement each post in this one.

    just one suggestion: the figure were adding to the composition human (natural) elements. Why not return them (perhaps smaller) in left side. In case you intend to reintroduce them later, just forget about this.

    Zou- The figures were on another layer. I will just add them as the last step and maybe some ships too. The main focus is just the environment. Thanks again!

    Hi dizon

    the images were unviewable, i waited too see the finished image to give opinion:

    the line art is very good start and the 'finished' is for me a step.
    This is not finished, because it could much better
    -the image is separated two color wich disturb, the color should communicate with each other. You definitely should try some colors
    -the left side (joey's) is good lighting work
    -the big building (welcome signs) is also good
    -the farther skycrapper looks 2d (perhaps it's a style)

    well mate, perhaps you've lost interest or got tired but you should continue and finish the work.

    watch some concepart to get you motivated

    Zou- Thanks for the crit. There's a reason why I used two colors. I wanted to separate the foreground from the middle ground and background by not only using darker values but also using a complement to the overall green color. Well it's not exactly red, it's sort of pinkish when it comes to the bright lights. I also wanted a warm and cool separation as well.

    As far as the finish is concerned, I've pretty much accomplished everything I wanted with the piece. I didn't lost interest at all. I've had lots of fun with this one and I'm pretty proud of how it came out in the end. All those thumbnails in the beginning paid off.

    When it comes to the style, I wanted to retain the line work and not completely paint over it. This environment was inspired by Feng Zhu's environment sketching dvd. He would start with a line drawing using a pen and markers. He would then scan and open in Photoshop and put it on a multiply layer to so he could paint on it without losing the lines. The only difference is that I did the line work in Photoshop since I don't have a working scanner.

    Anyway, thanks again for the crit. I might go back and change things in the future, but for now I'm happy with the way it looks.

    Here is a sketch of Zooey Deschanel. It was hard cuz of the front lighting which flattens the forms and makes values very subtle. I just focused on simplifying it first and then refining in the end.

    I used a pencil brush by "Ditlev" on the first one. Really cool! It's almost like the real thing.
