Ana's not so daily sketchbook (updated April 14th)

First post with pics here, hope you like them! I got a new tablet for the Christmas holidays and this will probably be a mainly digital art thread.

Older updates have text links, only the more recent ones will have images.

Less than an hour spent on each
(sorry but the first two are PNGs i have appearing randomly on my index page.. might take a bit to load)

Great start! I wanted a tablet for the holidays, but alas, Santa didn't pull through. These are looking really good for just a few days with the tablet, keep it up, I'd like to see more posts.

Thanks! It's not my first ever tablet, really.. just that my old one died over a month ago, it was an old Wacom with 128 levels of sensitivity, A6, so on.. now I have an Intous3 A5, which is just lightyears away Also have an Aiptek, but it can't even be mentioned because it doesn't work properly and never did.
But anyways, thanks! I'm trying to get in shape

Motion looks good! You can tell he/she is running and doing something with the right hand since the body is arching. I'd work on the details of the red androids, is it androids?, the red things so it has a little more depth and the background as well.

    Looks great so far!

The second one is me abusing Enayla's skintones tut. The first is drawn out of sheer boredom in Literature class then colored and recolored.. and just fugged up in the end

Hey there Angryscientist, glad to have you aboard CA.org! welp the only thing that really caught my attention is that all your pieces are too soft in my opinion. Do you use really low opacity? if you take a look at Prostate sunrises' sketchbook, he has great examples of high contrast digital paintings or even prometheus|anj.

Thank you, LadyLioness! Yes, I get told that over and over.. I'm just trying to get my colors and proportions right, and get rid over my overexposed contrasts because I do that very often. I haven't had much time to draw lately (and it shows), but I'll put something with more contrast up soon enough.

A tip my friend gave me is to work with 100 percent opacity and go from dark to light, hope you update soon!

I actually thought about doing the same thing myself! I even started working with ink at school, here's a sketch from today (the first one.. I doubt I will ever finish so I'm posting it) and one from yesterday. I'll try and draw something tonight as well!

I quite like this one! Tried that technique Android uses and it turned out better than I thought!

Work more from life, observational drawing is the key.
I'll check back on this thread in a couple of weeks to see more progress.

Ilja Murometzm, thank you I use OpenCanvas to sketch lately, just to get the lines and some shading down, then refine is PS. I prefer OpenCanvas over Painter because I have no skills in traditional art whatsoever, it's more logical and easy to use. And it's free :p (tho I got Painter Classic with the Wacom)

Yutani, thanks, you're very right about that! it's just extremely hard for me to get time to draw, I usually do late at night or doodle in my classes. Got art classes from school but rarely attend those because I can't find the time to. </rant>

Really like the perspective sketches! Looks a lot of MC Escher's style, always with the arches.

Looking good, keep updating! Gotta see more!

I know, same pose as the last one.. but I broke 3 self-imposed taboos with this pic. First off I used Painter to do parts of it. Second - I used the color blue. Third - I drew an elf without it being a concept for a project. Mostly concentrated on color, and yes, I can see that the knees aren't correct
    http://www.angrynotmad.net/bleh/blue.jpg

IanE - Thank you! And yes, arches are a big love of mine, I'll probably do a pic with lotsa arches soon, different styles and so on. But I'm not promising anything

    Hi again, Ana!

Good job stickin' it to the taboos! Noticed one thing though! The neck seems way too long, however I'm not an expert of elven anatomy, so it might be correct! Just signing in real quick!

Looking forward to some arches! Yea!

*gg* Aye, arches coming up next week! Just as long as I have time!

And yes, the neck is supposed to be exactly like that. It's just a view of the elves I adopted working on this not-yet-off-the-ground game project.

Ahh! Cool! Well if I ever decide to draw an elf, I'll remember the neck length!

Was looking through Hurricane's sketchbook and got really inspired. Stole one of his poses (didn't have the pic while drawing tho), and started scribbling away on OpenCanvas. Really cool program Only the last one is slightly touched up with photoshop. No ref used.

I wasn't feeling too well the last week or so, and thus didn't get the chance to draw or post. But here is the stuff I did in the meantime!

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...es/purrrrr.jpg
I think I listened to The Prodigy's new album a bit too much

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...llthewitch.jpg
And here I abused Mortiis (filename after the song I looped for a bit)

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2-11-0copy.jpg

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2-14-0copy.jpg
The last two - me just scribbling some enviros. They're something I've only barely tried before.. I'll work on something more complex, but that will come with time and practice

So tell me what you think, guys!

Very nice stuff, I can't wait to see more of your digital stuff. The last two environments look nice, love the first one. Your way of capturing the form is amazing, keep it up!
