    Beginner Questions

I am relatively new to digital art, and have a couple basic questions. In Painter and Photoshop also for that matter, what size document/canvas do you guys generally paint on? And at what pixcel per inch? Do you generally use about the same size for a landscape/ city as a character, or not? Thanks in advance.

Red face hi, just personal opinion...

    hi there,

just my personal opinion... (i don't mean to be rude, i am learning Painter myself :p) but i think it all depends on:

    1. what is your client/project's requirement?

    2. How fast is your equipment? (i.e. you can't expect to work on a 400+dpi poster with an old machine like one i have, and it might be a waste to keep working in thumbnail size on a g5 with 8GB ram... )

    3. How is your painting habit? (do you prefer to paint a huge painting section by section? do a lot of thumbnail size studies? quick painting done within hours? or some thing you do a little and get back to it a week latter?, etc.)

    4. are the works for job/project or personal practice? what size do you normally keep in your portfolio and archive.... etc.

think about what you want and/or what your clients want, then you should know the answer by heart.

    Cheers, and happy painting. ^_^.

p.s. if you are doing it for storyboard, 7x5 in 150 dpi is more than enough, for normal out put, 300 dpi is the most common size, however, there is no general rule, you can do whatever you like to do unless it's otherwise specified.
