If you've heard of Stephan Hawking...

I have recently heard that he is refuting his own theory from A Brief History of Time. Now I have to read THAT theory. What is your opinion on this, and am I talking to myself? I know that absolutely know other 17 year old in my state has read that book and understood it.

I hear he's a great guy, by the way.
Tell me, do you think I exist, or am I a figment of my own imagination?

Perhaps you could look up why he is refuting his own theory and give us the link or something?

Come on! Forum people are lazy (including me). They don't want to have to the trouble of going to Google to figure out what you are talking about.

I have read A Brief History of Time though. It was a cool read. I also understand that my actual knowledge of such fringe theoretical sciences is limited. Therefore all I can really say is that it was a cool read since I cannot make any truly educated dissertations on whether its true or not...

I believe it was a bet (20 year bet) and he lost so he had to rethink his theory again.

    It's either

    1) He used to think wormholes to white holes elsewhere were possible; now he thinks that anything that goes into a black hole just stays there, crushed out of existence...

    or

    2) He used to think nothing could ever leave a black hole; now he thinks particles can "evaporate out" through the event horizon.

    I'm not sure which.

Where Stephen Hawking now says he was wrong, from my understanding, is:

    1) His theory regarding black holes stated that the black hole could exit our universe into another universe/dimension.. and that perhaps it was the black hole itself that created the singularity which compressed matter to the point of a big bang. Basically, that black holes were how new universes were born.. He no longer thinks this is true.

    2) He also said that nothing could escape a black holes gravitational pull. He now thinks that it might be possible for sub-atomic particles to escape...

Obviouysly, I don't know enough science to be able to claim he is wrong but I will say that his previous theory about how universes were made and linked together really fired my imagination whether it was correct or not..
