Unhappy Arggh Help with Wacom Cintiq

Well I treated myself to a cintiq 18X for Xmas to use in Painter.

Seems great except the cursor becomes active when the pen is about an inch off the screen. It appears that pen is stuck permanently in Left click mode For example. as soon I get the pen within an inch or two of the desktop, it starts marqueeing (dotted line selection box). When in Painter or Photoshop, the brush won't release the line stroke. I get a continous line until I pull it far enough away (almost 2 inches) that tablet doesn't recognize the pen anymore. Selecting anything in either program is pretty difficult, I had to click the screen HARD with the pen (can't light tap on it) or I have to click with the side buttons.

    1. I've tried installing the latest drivers from wacom for the Cintiq (in WinXP SP1).
    2. I've tried calibrating the pen three times.
    3. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers a couple times.
    4. I've tried making the pen tip not L-click in the Wacom button module.

    Any suggestions?

Something's definetly wrong. I expected this to behave much like my Intuous and it's not. I believe the pen is defective.

    UPDATE:**********************
Good news. Got the damn thing to work.

Did a complete system reinstall of WinXp (with SP2 and all updates).

Installed latest Wacom drivers. Recalibrated. Problem still existed at this point.
and then the kicker....played around with Click Force in the Wacom Options.

I had tried this before (several times) without any results but for some reason this time it worked.
