    My preference.

Its not as dark as the other one and its more compact.....It works better for me. The other one's too dark.

The 1st, with the dog. It's sleaker and more pro looking. The 2nd one doesn't have enough contrast. Plus, the layout (title, this is my portfolio, random thumbnail, copyright, enter) is too standard. The first one on the other hand is more functional. The sample of your work, title and site info (portfolio) have been grouped together and the "ENTER" is right smack in the middle, with a bright colour, inviting you in.

A:what kind of art do you prefer doing? landscapes or dogs? The first one looks more like a design/graphic artist site. The second looks more like a fine art landscape painters site.
I self-published a book on the fundamentals of drawing from life.

    first

second's subject matter is bland IMO, and too dark, not interesting due to lack of contrast

    cheers

first one, as far as design. but make the 'enter' button more prominent, right now it's sandwiched between a lot of detail. it's also more uniform than the second one, which is a bit more messy... also move the logo towards the bottom, since it's an image and competes with your artwork. ah heck here's a mock-up: [hope you don't mind]

    Opinions please!!! on website intro.
