    XSFX2000 - drawings etc.

hello- here's a drawing done (from a photo) for my
Drawing for Graphics class that just ended.

(Image attached at the End of this post)

Going back in time, and looking at drawings before this one-
this is the best one yet.
    Comments are (of course) welcome.
And yeah, I do look like that...
    Later-

Of course- a shout out to ZebzFree - we were in class together.
    You Rawk man!

Damn, your values in that look spot-on.

My only two comments would be the lines in your shading and the hair. With your rending, some parts of the face look carefully rendered whereas with others you can see the texture the pencil leaves on the paper (like the forehead). It sorta draws you out of the picture. Smudging would be one option to pursue, but you lose a lot of value and precision that way. I have a lot of problems keeping that damn texture from showing up myself, so I'm still struggling there as well. One thing I started doing was using the point more and carefully building up the values. The texture still shows up a bit, but it's not as bad as before.

The only other thing I have to comment on is the hair. It probably looks close to this in the photo, but right now it looks really flat and disconnected from your head. The heavy contrast between the highlights on your forehead and the immediate black of the hair sort of disconnect it a bit.

Awesome, awesome work. I look forward to more. XSFX2000 - drawings etc.

Thanks for the input - always welcome-

"I wish I had more time"
(they're gonna carve that one on my headstone- I'm sure)

I could see myself spending a few more days on it- but it
was for class - and getting things done on time is something
I must work on- y' know? - I have a habit of being ...a bit.. late...
    to everything... yeah.

ZebzFree was in the class with me and he constantly amazed everyone
    with his skill.

I hope to get better with time - also, I hope to develop the ability to
draw straight from my imagination, and have it look at least as good
as when I work from a photo.

gotta run - last day at the open lab till next semester...

    Thanks!
Sadly, I need to make more time to draw more,
so I can scan & upload more work.
Well, I'll be back in school this fall,
I'm sure I'll have more work then.

Well- being piss poor- and having no more Pell grant-
I skipped the fall semester to work on movie SPFX-
And the spring isn't shaping up to be any better.
I need about 1 more year to finish out my Graphic
    Design associates degree. (sigh)

There are a few more SPFX projects coming up- Waiting
on this one project with a relatively bigger budget (so I
can get paid for a change) to finally kick off- I need a
broadcast quality video editing suite- with all the avalable
power to get some of this CG work I do to happen a lot
    more quickly...

    Okay- it's 5:20 am- I'd best catch some zzz's
    Later

    Last Friday Scetchbook challenges

    Okay- first update (finally!)
Last Friday got to do some crazy scetchbook challenges with
ZebsFree (Ryan) and KingCoyote at his place.
We called around to Guggenmaneuver, Zord, and That Fat Kid
for suggestions for our 45 minute drawings.

I don't recall the exact wording, so I copied this info off
King Coyote's post: (with a few changes)

This first one was suggested by Guggenmaneuver.
"Gigantic Maggot creature in Catacombs that Eats Bodies and the People who Bury Them."

(All Images- now attached at the end of the message)

    Second topic came from Zord.
"Guy Holding Sword That's Actually A Pencil (or pen, or brush) In One Hand, and a
Shield That's Actually A Sketchbook in the Other Hand. He has a flaming cigarette
in his mouth. It should be OVER THE TOP!
AND there should be a doom crew symbol in there somewhere."

Now- If I'm working form a Photo- great...
If I'm working from Life- eh, not so great...
If I'm working on a drawing- without any reference- I totally SUCK.
This little animation should illustrate that concept:

(All Images- now attached at the end of the message)

    And now- the sad reality...

(All Images- now attached at the end of the message)

Third topic came from That Fat Kid.
"Robot that doubles as a musical instrument and is an instrument of death."

(All Images- now attached at the end of the message)

So, Ryan said he'd set up a poll or something similar,
showing all of the scetches we did that night.

When I know where that'll be, I'll post the link here.
    Later-
    Lloyd

    Quick Update

Here's a little drawing I did using an image from a magazine ad-
Lets just call this a work in progress:
    XSFX2000 - drawings etc.
The darkest values were done with a marker- to push the darks to black.
I still need to work in some value into her hair.

the original image is small enough to obsure her face with a finger tip-
the drawing is roughly twice the size- proportions measured out with
a small toothpick. (there's a bit of proportional distortion)
Also, the scanner reflects in the pencil - lightinening some areas.

Those three circles are punched holes in the note paper that came out
    of my small personal organizer.

    I'm falling asleep- comments please...

Cool to see you're drawing, man! I'd really like to see more tho so get on it! Obscure her face with your thumb?! That's ridiculously small! Crap out s'more, bro. It's a pretty good likeness tho. Just work on pretty-in up those renders and you'll have something! Keep at it, bro.

PS: Sorry I haven't set up a poll yet. Maybe it's been too long now... lol
