    contest

I think that there was such a low turn out for this last contest because it was les creative. I'm sure many artists racked their brains for "what the peeps at Terminator 3 wanted" . What I'm trying to say is that the other contests were more fun because people could really let their imaginations go...without the worry of having to satisfy / or fit to such a particular world or environment as T3. I also don't think that many people would have wanted to give up the rights to their work for just some small space on a website.

So, lets get another contest going, with a new direction. a contest that doesn't follow a specific franchise. A contest that lets the peeps in this org. creativly excell. After all, most of us are doing this stuff for fun...not for work.

    I agree.

I also suggest the use of poetry.
    Let me elaborate.

The contest would be for the artist to read a poem (admins pick one, preferably on that conveys emotion so it can be interoperated in many forms.)

The artist takes what he/she feels the poem means to him/her and puts it in to an art work./
Giving an explanation along side it.

    Just an idea.

I know the T3/TD4 contest was unusual. But the fact that Jason, Andrew and others went out of thier way to set this opportunity up for us should have had a plethora of artists jumping at the bit. The point was, to take something familiar, use your creativity and make it new, (which I think is a very important aspect of concept art). If this were a new game we were working on and we needed new creatures, characters, machines, environments, etc, we would have to be creative and come up with new stuff, yeah?
I know most of us do it for fun, but compared with the other 'dome contests, this one isn't much different; we still have guidelines. It just had the added benefit of actually getting something out of it rather than just cranking out the work.

Can't wait for the next one, regardless of the theme.

Don't get me wrong..I totally appreciate what Jason and Andrew are doing for this site, and all of us artists.
I just have to work under tight art directions every day, so I look foward to the loose, open ended contests on this site. I mean, it was obvious that we had to FOLLOW a certain art direction for this last project. It was one of the things the jusdges at T3 were looking for.
They didn't want us to redesign anything. Maybe if the script never made it to hollywood..I think there could've been more room for interpritation. That's what I like the most about these contests...we get to see other people's ideas and directions.

I think the theme of this project should lend itself to concept art ( this is conceptart.org after all) and not so much to illustration, as the T3 contest did. I for one would like to see a contest based on tech/ID/environment design type stuff for a change. It would also be cool to suggest a bare-bones medium (markers/pen, or pencil only, etc.) so the emphasis is on concept, rather than rendering technique. thats my two cents anyway...

Some kind of vehicle. A new form of personal transportation for people in 2040 or something. This would expose a lot of people to a very difficult aspect of concept design. It would be a change of pace, also.

I like McNallyism's idea about material usage...let's go raw

Personally I thought the T3 contest was a great idea and a huge opportunity, that kind of exposure is almost impossible to come by -- kudos to all who made it happen. But I'm a hypocrite because I never made it past the sketch stage, I got blindsided by 3 glorious weeks of jury duty.

    No, really.

These contests are brilliant, keep 'em coming (in whatever form they may take)

I believe I am in charge of the next Thunderdome and it's theme has already been picked, by davi.

I won't relieve the name or genre of the theme, but i will say... OMG IT RULES. Trust me it's going to be 100x more open to creativity than the last theme and it's going to be alot more balanced in terms of needed artistic skills. The terminator topic faved way too much towards the artists who were used to drawing robotics, which I know didn't favor me, so i just let this one pass. I hope you enjoy the next topic as much as I and manley do.

Currently we are starting the hunt for prizes, so you'll have to hold your horses for awhile.

it will be annouced when we(jason) finds a grand prize. We don't want to annouce it yet since it would be unfair for some to get a head start. Hold your horses and do some themed speed painting.
