I am a big fan of the Halo games, so did this piece of fan art for fun. The grunt characters are some of my favorites, not only do they have tons of personality, but overall I love the design. Since I own several of the McFarlane Halo Grunt toys, I did a little photoshoot, and used the photos as the basis for the character's pose. Painted in about 3-4 hours, the last couple of hours were mostly subtle color corrections, usually I start off with a pretty strong color scheme in mind, this one ended up coming together at the end of the piece.
Discovered this forum after a good few months! Here's some of my 'speedpaint' efforts:
Hour on GIMP, observation of another digital drawing
2 Hours on GIMP, the plane is from observation but the background was imagination
2 hours on GIMP, the planes were observation, although I positioned them. The background and flames were imagination
Practice, practice and MORE practice..
This is the first speedpainting I've made, it has taken me about 30min in photoshop. ^^

1hr painting of bridge in desert landscape.
First proper attempt at a landscape painting.
Critique me please, especially on composition, lighting and additions to subject matter.
Hello hello! Been following this thread for a while. The work in here is simply amazing. I just started digital painting about six months ago and it has been VERY challenging. But in a good way . I've been practicing ship design and finally feel like I'm getting the hang of it. I've got a loooong way to go to get where you guys are though. Anyways, here's my latest quickie. About an hour give or take 15min in painter. I didn't intend to post it, which is why it's just a flat side shot, and I sort of just threw some stars and a random planet in there for you guys so it wouldn't just be a ship on a black background. Any helpful crits would be much appreciated. Woot woot for first time posting in conceptorg!
Come on guys, keep this thread alive! Post your stuff! Some of the best pieces on this site are on this thread. The energy and life in these speed paintings are incredibly inspiring. In an effort to keep things going, here are two pieces I just did tonight. Definitely not up to the quality of stuff I've been seeing on here, but we gotta start somewhere right?
The tank is a ref piece and I spent about 15min on it. I'm trying to to do super quick ref pieces to help my brush economy. The old portrait I did with no ref, and it took about an hour give or take 15min. I was pretty deep into my crown and cokes by then so it's a little messy
Just realized I uploaded the unfinished version of that portrait! Here is the correct version. Sorry for the double post.
Guys? Whats going on here? If you don't start posting those awesome speed paintings I've been seeing on this thread then you are gonna force me to keep posting my crap! Don't believe me?
Here's an interior I tried tonight. Pretty much my first go at an interior. Man was it challenging. It was intended to be a speed painting but it took me waaay too long to figure it out. It ended up taking about 4 hours in total. Anyways, crits are welcome!
I am new to digital artwork and it has taken me a lot of effort to get over the "I hate working on digital art" mood. I now am in the mindset of "Ok lets see how much better I Can get" mindset. You will notice I Love equines, I also love My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. So you will see a bit of that as well. I love how people can just make a beautiful illustration in just an hour or two but when I do it its always 3 to 4 hours and not even close to where I want it. I know, practice makes perfect. I'm trying. I also know that 1. People tell me to use harder edges. My oil paintings I am very soft edged and its my comfort zone. I do need to expand though so I will try a harder edged piece tonight. I don't want to spam this posting with 8 artworks so instead I will post a URL to the artworks in question and don't hold back. I get people on DeviantArt saying awesome cool etc. which doesn't help. I have a couple digital illustration classes coming up next semester and I am way behind where I should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a quickie I did tonight. Maybe an hour? Hour and a half? Somewhere there abouts. It was alot of fun just keeping stuff loose and not worrying about nitty gritty details. Work has been really stressful so it has been great to do these speed paintings without the feeling that I must render something to completion. Anyways, hope this thread stays alive!
A couple of pieces here. The first two took maybe an hour each, the environment at the end was probably closer to 2 hours. I started it intending to do some texture practice with photoshop, and ended up not using any oh well. It was good practice none the less.
@soulburnd - Really liking your abstract colors. And your robot head is freaking wild. I love it man. Keep it up.
nice work .!
I would also like to se some foregroundelements to bring more depth to the picture, which also would be good to cover up the not so detailed area in the bottom.
Great picture otherwise, the bridge feels very dynamic and the atmosphere is great, good job!
heres some, from random brushey thumbnails, no reference except for the soldiers

These are for a 2D animated short
These are for a game being designed
Just a quickie. I might get back to it and polish it later. I've just gotta think of a way to make it more interesting.
