I LOVE your stuff, your style of rendering with the pens in your moleskine sketchbook is just the bomb... its incredible how beautifully everything is rendered out when you are on the go!!!

there you go, now you have EVEN MORE useless flattery...

Well since 'twas round 1860 that I last posted I thought I would try and resurrect this blasted husk of a thread. I'm working for Massive Black now and having an amazing eye-opening time. We just moved into a new studio in a cool part of town. It's walking distance from my apartment so I go through the Market Street/ Financial district portion of town to get to work. Having a desk and drawing on a wacom all day is still surreal to me, it still seems like I'm going to wake up at some point and have to drive into work in Athens, driving by the same land marks and urban scenes I'd grown so tired of seeing. But, it's fo' real, bustin' ass makes things happen. I'm going to end this rant on a hokey note by saying.... that bustin' ass pays off, it's true. Just when you think things are getting pretty crappy and you're not getting anywhere something comes up. As for me it seems the ass-bustin' has just begun, but that's a good thing. Working with those guys is a fucking amazing learning experience and an even bigger kick in the pants. Couple that with living in San Fran and seeing a bunch of great art and artists has created a 2-ton gorilla that taunts me constantly about my needing to draw more -- even paint (gasp!) BUT I wouldn't have it any other way. As for Athens, I've grown to really love the place now that I've moved away. Not in a home sick sort of way but more that I can see the good things about it instead of focusing on why I wanted to leave. For everyone in school I'd HIGHLY suggesting doing some serious traveling while in college. It's something I really neglected and I think my art (and life) suffered from it. Getting out in the world will give you tremendous perspective - which comes out in the work.

So I'm finally getting into the groove of things, being able to get around town ( a little... ) and finally buying furniture ( I have a chair now! ) and generally getting down to biddness. I found some figure drawing sessions courtesy of Bonedog and have been doing allot of studies at home and about town. I'm going to buy some paint this weekend to try and bash my head into that wall

So that's that, enough of the babble and on to the jpegs....

Haven´t posted in this thread just to be another asspatter but I´ve watched your progress constantly and I think you´re doing very well. I love your hatching abilities and the last batch of sketches is really great.

Good to know that you found a way to make your passion to a living - massiveblack seems to be a really good thinktank and Jason & Co. are really pulling the cream out of CA .

Anyway I will still be watching (and envying) you and your work!

im with cody, those life drawings, arB11-15 in particular are absolutely amazing... you're inspiring me to pick up the old wooden pencils again next drawing session I have. Amazing sense of weight and depth on those drawings...

Also, I totally know how you feel moving to a new place, getting immersed in a new environment, and feeling like, after all the work you've done, you're only just now starting to get moving... and you're getting buttkicked all over the place by inspiration. It's an awesome feeling.

It's good to see you kicking butt mr. kemp, keep us posted on things!!

    neat-o.

Redundant as it is to say,,, all the drawing from life just overflowed into your imaginative work.. The hatching aproach in the lifedrawing is so efficient. It really had become your way of dictating form in and out of the life drawing context. The linework in the naval captains is so strong, it looks like they are cut with a buren. Really looks like intaglio. I love the control of distortion. The new leads of the girls suspended next to eachother is a lot different. Seems like you miniturized your hatching application to the point where it just looks tonal unless you really look close. Just really appreciating everything,,great to see a new post, too. congrats on the job. Don't forget to post when you get the chance.

Loop- don't go changing the subject! let's focus on KEMP's thread here...

which is, i must confess, "off the chain" as you young people like to say nowadays.
