as an FYI here are the military air craft designators
    A: Attack
    F: Fighter
    B: Bomber
    E: Electronic
    P: Patrol
    H: Hellicopter
    S: Anti-submarine
    C: cargo
    L: Light
    V: Vertical Take Off
Here's an example as to how it's used.
    AV-8B a.k.a. the Harrier.
The break down on that one is Attack, Vertical Take Off, model 8, Bomber. So A-10 is Attack model 10, not a bomber even though it's specialty is air to mud. It's nickname is the Warthog.. and like the previous poster.. broken link.

    Let's not forget,

    T: Trainer

My dad was a T-38 pilot (and T-39 i think) when he was in the Air Force.

oh yeah I totally spaced T, good call Your dad flew tweets eh? When was he in and where was he stationed? My dad was an FB-111 Radar Nav, before that he did radar nav in B-52's.. he stopped flying in 89 to work a desk job to pick up O-6.. he still curses the day he decided to stop flying, as he never picked up O-6. I'd like to go off on a rant about quotas (which supposedly DON'T exist) but I'm going to keep that to myself

    oh gosh... um... let's see...

My dad got out of the Air Force shortly after I was born ( 1978 ). After that he flew private jets for oil company CEOs in Texas until the TX oil market hit the skids. He then got hired by Northwest Airlines... in '84 or '85 and has been there ever since. He flies the 747-200 right now. I think he got his pilot's license before he got in the AF... maybe in ROTC... but i'm all hazy on the details.

I was born in Omaha, NE where he was stationed at the time... before that he was in San Antonio, TX in '75 where my brother was born... there was another base that he was at between those times but i forget where.
