Attack of the New Art!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5-22

This is pretty much a new beginning for me. Having not lifted a pen or pencil in the name of art in over 4 years I decided to get back into it. As of this year I am working towards a degree in 3d game art and design after leaving my program for law school.

You only live once, I'd rather die doing what I love.

Cool stuff, you have a unique style and I like it!
You should work on your anatomy more, though.

    great ideas
really admire your rendering, but - you already said it yourself - some lack by anatomy knowledge/understanding...

The girl in the woods is fanastic,... hope you draw a second version with your improved skills.

    Don´t stop...

Your style reminds me a lot of how my best friend started out. Very stylized and cool. And he developed into a pretty awesome artist. To bad he doesn't do anything anymore with it! But I'm sure you'll keep on progressing and get just as good as everyone else on this kickin' site. Boy I'm rambling. I only had 3 hours of sleep last night. Please excuse me.

I'll be lookin' fer that next update so GET ON IT!

I headed to some of the art galleries with my pieces to find out what was anatomically wrong. The conclusion thereof was a distortion created by my low-end scanner
Nonetheless, I will continue to work incessantly on anatomy.

    These look great!

Are they all from your imagination?

The forest piece is definitely the best but all of them are great. Keep it up!

Yeah, I never really tried photo references. I suppose I should though, but to me, it seems to cheapen my art in my eyes. Especially when talking fantasy (kind of difficult to shoot a pic of a dragon).

yeah, yoru anatomy could still use work. using reference, or working from life, will help that. even though it loks nice, all the details wont hide the lacking forms. you do have potential, and great rendering with pencil, but you have to keep going with it an learn new ways to approach the matter.

and dragons can be cross referenced. look at lizards-different reptiles, birds, bat wings, all of that. skeletal and muscles and skin, everything. do studies of real animals and you can piece together believable fantasy animals like dragons.

wow,,, thats really cool. without reference must have mean u are drawing for a long time, and know all the anatomy and figures. Thats nice.

I see nothing wrong with your demons,. The only thing i suggest, is to draw one of em u like the most from differnet views. then do it for most of them. Then u'll change some areas automaticly or add some more stuff to it.

You've got detail down to a science. I never finish my sketches with that much detail. Your work has a sense of completeness. That's probably why you're having an anatomy problem..the detail is first on the mind. That's how it all starts though!^_^.
You ought to try some scribble drawings, where you focus only on the proportion and shape. Just really messy sloppy sketches. Then once you got the anatomy down, add the detail.
If you do that...your work will be stunning, I ga-ron-tee.

I love the wolf creature and the lizzard like warrior looking at the clouds..very nice cloud effect. Your shading is perfecto. Bravo and post more! Keep on keepin on--Sio

Very nice over all. My main crit would be for you to get into some life drawing classes and if you can't do that(you really should) go to the zoo and draw from the animals. The point being draw from life both literally and figuratively, it will give even your fantasy work soul and believability. Don't be afraid to use reference just don't work directly from it, if you feel it cheapens your work. Remember it is called reference, so just refer to it, put it away, draw, if you get stuck refer to it again. Observe life all around you, and record these observations in a sketch book. If you do not learn how reality work than your work won't look fantastical, it will look fake. Our job as artist's(and illustarators inparticular) is to take a moment in time, fictitous or not, and make it real for the viewer. You have good ideas, now make me believe them, make them real.
Draw from life at least 30 minutes every day.

    hey
wow, its great man. Nice drawing.
Just the eye is a little big, but its still great. And, i think the mask is a little big, cause its got to fit your face so it will stay on the face.

    Anyways, cheers,
    great,, do more man.

Haha, the camera is angled in the shot. I can say honestly that it makes a difference. Then again, I think I'll look into changing that. Thanks as always, Hero, time to hit your book..

I was just called a "Satan-Worshipper" for the picture immediately above me. This has little to do with this thread, but it makes me madder than hell that people can't see beyond the picture to the energy put into a piece.
