    Well said.

if it looks great and rocks then who cares if the artwork came from a plumber or not. I'm 99.9% sure that most of the people who are seriously into art know of and have studied Fine Art... in essence we're all fine artists.

The ladies think I'm a fine artist.

By fine artist, do you mean make a living doing your own work? Not commercial work? Or "Concept Art" which really is called "production design" Where an artists is hired to design the look and feel for a game, movie etc.

    Why do you ask?

The label of fine artist is a contraversial one... The usual assumption is a person that does art for himself but that only restricts the fine artists to people that take it as a hobby, kicking out all the old masters that devoloped "fine" art into what it is. So really me personally fine art is anything that's good...

Sorry would say something long and meaningful but it's 1:33 and I'm sleepy.

But patdzon look through the life drawing forum and go to the life painting thread. It's a sticky and it's with a bunch of people that do very good traditional paintings. Guess that could be a definition of what you mean by fine artist if not dunno...

Fine Art: The arts depending upon the taste and appealing to the sense of beauty through the application of traditional art mediums; painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, metalworking, woodworking, and others. Fine Art is regarded by some scholars as a time-honored orthodox artform.

A fine artist is an artist who is highly skilled in the techniques of fine art.

Illustration is a picture or diagram used to clarify or explain, especially the written part of a printed work.

An illustrator is an artist who makes pictures to be used as illustrations.

Conceptual Art is art that is intended to convey an idea or concept to the perceiver and need not involve the creation or appreciation of a traditional art object such as a painting or sculpture.

A concept artist is an artist who is mad; lunatic; crazy; or seems to be mentally ill.

Hm, I'm probably a little of a fine artist, illustrator, and concept artist. Although, I do have a much bigger appreceation for fine arts then anything else. Its not that I find the others to be less skill involved, I think that art has a much larger impact on someone if they can see it in real life. Like, seeing a murder on TV is not the same as seeing it in real life.

My definition is different. I think it all depends on how you choose to pursue your art. It definately has got nothing to do with the medium you work in.

Illustrator= Artist who does art for commercial business's , assignments, magazines , but maintains some rights to his/her work..etc.

Fine artist= Artist who does his or her own work and retains all rights to their work. Distributed through galleries, publishers etc.

Concept artist/ production designer/graphic artist = Artist who is employed by a company to design art, and signs over all rights to their work.

Artists take elitist points of views on their "titles" too much. In turn confusing and clouding not only themselves, but to potential collectors or clients.

As artists, we ALL design, compose, capture, share, and create. It doesn't matter how you do it. Only that we do it well. So, you are either a contracted artist, employed or independant. How you choose to create your future as an artist is really up to you.

Oops. Sorry I have the wrong definition for concept artist.

The correct definition of a concept artist is a person behaves in an tyrannical manner or one invested with absolute authority.
