I suck at Charcoal...any tips, advice, or sources I can use to learn how to use it?

Study I made using this picture https://imgur.com/a/uEb6GxF as reference until I get the material to make my own shadow box. Name: 20190513_173605.jpg

Size: 187.3 KB I'm really bad at using Charcoal despite the practices I've made. If you have any tips or sources like books or Youtube videos that could help me to learn how to properly use it please share them here, I would appreciate it very much.

14,8 x 21cm, it's cellulose paper for pencil, pastels, coloured pencils, ink, and charcoal.

The reference is horrible quality. Because the contrast is blown out and the image is too small.

Work from life even if you don't have a shadow box. Photographs are nearly useless for study. Also, don't press so hard and your shadows won't be so dark.

Not sure if I'm have the right to give you advice, as I am not a pro in charcoal, but what worked for me was using smaller (thinner) pieces of charcoal, using different kinds of charcoal, or working bigger.
