    Skull studies

    Hi! Last time i was here people told me to study the skull, and i did it. However i still don't get how they would help me, i can already draw them without reference. What can i improve?

    Keep plugging away at it. Make sure to have a good physical skull cast from actual human remains to study. Studying from photographs is almost utterly useless compared to what you can learn from an actual skull.

    When you're doing your observations from various angles just kind of let your mind be blank and don't think of it as a "skull." Pay attention to how each form relates to each other. Think of the mark you'll make before you make it and then make the mark you thought of. It's difficult to do this at first, but it does get easier.

    Some areas you need to watch are the size of the teeth, the size of the back of the skull in relation to the face, the size and curvature of the eye sockets, and how they affect the shape of the nose. Also, pay attention to the positioning of the cheek bones in relation to the nose and eye sockets.
