EOW #332: Ice Cream Shop on the Bad Side of Town

EOW #332: Ice Cream Shop on the Bad Side of Town

    Topic:
Ice Cream Shop on the Bad Side of Town

Located in a crime-ridden area of town, this established ice cream shop sells freshly made custard, ice cream in a cup or cone, and other confections and treats.

Environment Assignments: Design two environments of your choice and focus on the storytelling elements.

    Ideas:
    Ice Cream Shop
    Ice Cream storage room/freezer
Backalley of ice cream shop, ice cream trucks are parked there

    Expectations of the Client

    -
To qualify for the poll, complete all two concepts. They must be final and portfolio-ready, but if they are half-done but look developed enough, we will let them go to poll.
-If you finish two out of three, or even one out of three, consider this a victory for you and your portfolio development -- or just for fun in general. This is a four week project that's meant to challenge participants and encourage them to produce portfolio-grade work. Artists in the EOW have been asking for something like this for years and many have gone on to become a force in the concept art industry.

Deadline: You will have two weeks to finish your two-enviro assignment. Due May 10, 2019

I still need to fix a few things on it... I totally forgot to mention, This piece by Nikolai Lockertsen totally inspired me to do this one. I did thumbnails for this illustration, but I discarded all the thumbnails I did because Nikolai Lockertsen's image keeps popping in my head.

Anyways... mine is clearly not as well developed as his... but I guess mine has it's own charms.

I like the silhouette of buildings in the background directly behind the car without a door. You definitely hit the topic accurately. I just noticed the oil drums next to the shop, I couldn't notice before because of the similar color schemes converging. The shadow work is good -- I see you've been practicing it and incorporating it into your work for some time. Slightly shadowy moments, like staged photographs during a more gunsmoke-based era.
Reminds me a bit of the book The Outsiders.

I can see where you got inspired from that piece. It has a different feel though.

Yes... Nikolai's piece feel different... it feels lonely, but only because of the lack of people I guess. I still love his piece better than mine though. I have tagged my illustration for further development later on, so who knows... maybe I'll end up liking mine better than his after I develop it more. For now, I'm keeping it as a speedpaint.

Here is a corrected version of it btw... someone made a comment about the awkwardness of the guy's pose on the right, so I changed it up a bit.
