Ive been tackling some more mechanical design stuff. I sketched out some gun designs with varying success. I'd really appreciate some critique on these if anyone is up for it.

I like your style, but to make sure your faces are not falling apart, I suggest you study head construction, for instance through Loomis.

Ya, I defiantly need to do some more studies to try to keep some consistent proportions and volume to my heads. Thanks for the advice.

Attempting some rough character designs. I tried creating heros and villians but I think I failed on making them read properly.

Im making it my monthly task to start messing around with painting. I really want to be able to start rendering some of my sketches and find some method of making finished pieces instead of nonsense scribbles all the time. This is the most recent study I've done. Some feedback and critique would be super helpful.

If you allow me, I think you should apply the "plane" technique to help you with lighting and catching a better sense of volume. That will help you a lot to build a solid base for your faces while not worrying too much about getting "there" with brush.

Here if you look at the "paintover for posterity" you will find helpfull example of this way of placing the shape and use value of grey to help define the volume : http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho....php?&t=265541

Try to understand the forms and don't be afraid to over-simplistify them at first, a solid base is better than trying a shortcut to fast-render detail and getting stuck and frustrated later...

If you wish to find good book about the face, try looking for books aimed at 3D artist, or sculptors. Here is an example https://anatomy4sculptors.com/ (not sure if they still sale the pdf version of their book).

If too expensive, you can simply take a look using pinterest (yeah for once, this stuff can help): https://www.pinterest.com/agbookout/...or-3d-artists/ from here you will get plenty of suggestion like these ones :

Don't forget to check out the website they are taken from, you will find a gold mine !

    Hope that helps you...

Thank you so much for all the resources. Finding a solid direction to go for my art has been a bit of a struggle lately, but this will absolutely help me get on the right track again. That paint over for posterity really seems like the kind of thing I've been looking for.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help.
