    CHOW 181 Dog Fighter (Finals)

    CHOW 181 Dog Fighter (Finals)

    Character of the Week #481

    Dog fighter
    Deadline - Monday, Febuary 11th 8AM GMT

In the near future genetically engineered humanoid dogs are bred to fight each other for the pleasures of blood hungry crowds.
The poor creatures have no rights, and many die each night in the brutal fight pits, with makeshift knuckle dusters and spiked knee pads
used often in the no holds barred brawls.
Despite their ill treatment many are very well trained in various forms of martial arts and backstreet fighting.

Remember to think about the characterisation of your fighter, a rock solid bruiser would suit a bulldog, whilst a nimble Mu Thai kickboxer might look good as a whippet.

Anything vaguely dog like is OK, so canine, lupine (wolf) Vulpine (fox) etc. Also hyena, dingo and stuff like that wold be fine too.

    • Male or female humanoid dog
    • Pick any breed of dog, wolf, fox etc (See above)
    • Optional – may have improvised knuckle dusters, gauntlets, steel cap boots with spikes for kicking , etc.

    The Rules:

    - FINALS: Must post in finals thread before the deadline
    - KNEES UP: Must show at least 3/4 of the character, from at least the knees up.
    - FRONT VIEW: Must be able to see the front of design. No back views without a front.
    - WIPS: Must show at least 2 work in progress shots either in the wips thread or finals thread.
    - READABLE: Design must be readable, as in a 3D model could be made from your image.
    - ONLY ONE: May only submit one entry. No multiple submissions.
    - 3D: Must be originally created models, excluding primitives. 3D paint-overs permitted. If you choose to use 3D in whole or in part you must show a screenshot of the model in 3D software with final entry.
    - UNACCEPTABLE: These are not permitted: Photo paint-overs, photobashing, pre-made or purchased 3D
    models
, rushed works/ rough sketches. PHOTO TEXTURES are allowed as long as they are suitably worked into the piece and not lazily dumped on top.
    - NEW USERS: Must submit entries by 6pm GMT on due date, due to conceptart.org's moderation process:

    - DESIGN: Design your character for the brief, not your personal fetish. Nudes without some design are not permitted.
    - READ: Read through the threads; there may be answers to your questions already posted.
    - FUN: Have fun!

Good job guys! I will make a brief analysis of the work.

@mariofernandes - I liked the idea of the wolf with scars and the anatomy is good . I just missed a bit of rendering on your part, I do not know if it was time or if it was your intention to leave it like this. And I also saw a bit of black overuse in the image, the values have a lot of contrast. It would be nice to explore some medium grays in the image to make it lighter and more realistic.

@Crowsrock - The design of the dog was good, very typical of a dog angry mixed with some demon (hahahah).
In his art I put the same criticism that I used Mariofernandes, which has a lot of black and high contrasts of values. The anatomy needs to be worked out a little deeper as well.

@Moirae I loved this fight style here (Capoeira if I'm not mistaken). I liked the colors too, you can impose your style on your art.

@AdamRoush This Dobergal Punk is really good. For some reason he reminded me of Riven (League of Legends). I'm missing the shadows set on the piece, I'm just looking at soft spaced shadows. I do not know if it's your style, but these shadows I miss in some parts that pass forms to the viewer, like the part of the breasts that are skipped.

@Lege1 Beautiful punch. The anatomy and values are cool, but there was a bit more finalization. It probably took time for you to complete the piece, but it's pretty cool the idea. The composition did not please me very much, maybe if you pull the punch a little more to some golden point it would gain more prominence, since the wolf is already in one.

Well, that's all folks! Sorry for my bad English, I'm learning

I have critiques for the other entries, which I'll post tomorrow or Thursday.
But first, I needed to revise my piece. There were a bunch of little issues I needed to address, which you can see in the images below:

@Vittor G: Thanks. Yes, I did reference Riven, plus roman, viking, medieval armor, and other fantasy characters, for this design. This piece is just flat colors, there's no shading, save for the eye highlights and the lightning effect. I left it like this because I didn't want to spend all day on it; I had other things to do. So long as the design is readable, then it works for me. I might paint it if I find the time.

Vittor G: I did this a while ago before the site went down. I've tried to reverse engineer your vanishing points and put in red the area where your character is sitting, or has contact with the seat. You can then place the form on top of the squares.

@moirae Indeed, there are some problems with regard to the perspective that I need to improve. I am studying some points on and I will try to transpose some on my upcoming projects. Thank you very much
