    Avatar

    Hello everyone,

I've been working on this avatar of myself. I wanted it to be a sort of cartoony self portrait. Any critiques would be awesome. I'm not sure how else to work on this and make it look better. I'm new to digital art and I want to continue practicing and getting better and better.

I really like your rendering! I think you did a great job on that. But right now, the eyes seem a bit wall-eyed and overall a bit scary. This is because, if you look at how human eyes naturally rest, the iris is always partially covered by the eyelid. In this case, I recommend lowering the top of the eyelid to cover a bit of the iris so it looks a bit natural. The reason this piece looks a bit wall-eyed is because each of its pupils are off-center in the iris in opposite directions. I'd recommend trying to center them a bit more, I think that might help a lot.

I also think the ear looks a bit weird. I'd personally hide it because it looks detached from the rest of the face. That's just my opinion though!

Overall, I think you did a good job, just a few tweaks are needed!

The stylization of the glasses is cool. I am not sure about shading to brown in the girl and black in the clothing. It makes her recede back a bit. But overall, nice.

Thank you so much! I kept thinking that something about it looks really off. I couldn't put my finger on it. It's definitely the eyes! Also, I agree about hiding the ear. I think you're right. It does look sort of detached from the head. Thank you for your honest critique, it's really helpful.

I agree. I think I'm going to make the jacket a lot lighter so the image doesn't recede that much. Thank you

The only thing I see is the line around her cheeks and neck is off somehow. Not lined up right or wrong color or something. Other then that I think it's great!

It looks a lot better! I think it's good for an avatar now, but if you want to fadangle with it more, I think could mess with the eyes a bit more and the hood area needs some work. Right now it doesn't look like it loops around her neck, it kinda appears to abruptly stop.

I like the top one more with the cool colors, but that's just me.

    Overall, great job!!
