hey copaloro, thanks for stopping by the other day! You have some heart in these sketches, I love it! Keep at it bro.

Some advice I wish people gave me when I was just starting: work on mileage right now and try to focus on depicting form in your drawings. Isolate the areas you desire to improve on and study them! don't be afraid to repeat a study you feel you don't understand. try something 10 times. 20 times. it really does matter. Oh and, I think you'd really benefit from drawing through forms, draw crosscontours and such.

Scott Roberson's how to draw book was immensely helpful to me for this and I am by no means a master, but it definitely helped me and it will help you. You could also search moderndayjames on youtube and he presents the information in a more digestible format.
All the sections build on themselves and become confusing if you don't get a good grasp of prior subjects. Learn the perspective techniques, how to manipulate planes, cubes, and ellipses, and how to build symmetrical forms. The more conscious you are of geometric visualization, the better.

remember that these are all suggestions and it's your own artistic journey, so remember to have fun above all else and focus on the things that are most meaningful to you. <.3

Thanks for the solid advice and for stopping by, that's exactly what I am trying to achieve here with my sketches. I will check out those references, Scott Robertson sounds familiar, I think I've watched some of his videos from Gnomon Workshop.. but that was such a long time ago.

Thanks for stopping by my Sketchbook! It took me a decade to make the jump to art and I kick myself for ever stopping in the first place but it's onwards and upwards from here on out! I'm not wont to giving advice since I am really a beginner, but DESQUOLOR had some solid advice for you a couple of days ago. Learning to sculpt form out was the trigger for my progress. For me, it was through doing a 14-day challenge on Istebrak's community page whereby you paint a portrait from imagination 1 day and rinse an repeat after you get enough critique. After 14 days, you definitely learn a thing or two. Midtones and not relying on contrasts were my epiphany and I have been working at it over the past year. Definitely not giving up this time around. You definitely are resuming from a much advanced stage I was at a year ago so keep at it!

Tiapar: You're most welcome and thanks for visiting! I think of myself as a beginner as well and I am okay with that, I prefer to be realistic about my skill level, even so, as a beginner I feel that it is good to probe into areas that are outside of our sphere of experience in order to expand it.

I am determined to return back to the basics, the core fundamentals, in order to really strengthen those essentials and from there expand out.

That 14 day challenge sounds interesting, I already know where I fail that one.. the major ones would be that my anatomy and proportions suck... I have to refresh my memory on those.

I will be checking our your stuff periodically and of course others as well, as I feel this would keep me motivated to continue.
