    Background advice and general critique

    I致e been struggling with this background for a while. I知 thinking of going off the original reference photo and doing a dark grey background and a red foreground. I know I want it to be pretty loose to better frame the dog and highlight the focus, but I知 struggling with the color and how I should structure the background. Any advice or critique on the piece would be awesome!

    I知 on my iPad so I値l just add links to the photos incase it gets messed up. First one is my reference, second is my wip

    I'd suggest you either leave it as is, or just indicate something in a small range (like some ground, transiting into white nothingness, and even then consider bouncing light colors). Drawing a figure before drawing the background is a very bad idea for multiple reasons. The most obvious being, that you'll automatically adjust your values and rendering to a white background, when using one.
