i like the sketch so far, but I'm really struggling with how the folds of her dress would fall. It would be amazing if anyone could help

A towel would help.. or a folded up bed sheet to wrap around your waist like a dresss.
My commentary is a gift to you.

Thanks, I'll try tgat out, but I dont think it will work that great, since its completely different fabric and under the dress also is a petticoat etc

Well.. yeah, but you can get the basic idea. Hence the folded up bed sheet to get some thickness to it... maybe do that over a towel around your waist. Get creative!

Here's something like what I would do. What happens is all of the folds that were in her dress before collapse onto each other and lay in perspective on the ground which means you could potentially have every type of fold laying on top of each other. If there were no folds in her dress before she sat down her dress would be an almost completely wrinkle-less circle which is common with dresses like this especially the way she's sitting. A lot of comic artists and manga artists draw stuff like this 20 times a day: don't over think it; it it's just lines. It's all an illusion. Or go in the style of classical artists and spend several days drawing and studying it from reference. Whatever works for you.

Also keep in mind that I sit down and see folds in my clothes and think "oh my god I've been drawing fabric wrong this whole time" like 3 times a month so my opinion isn't worth that much.

Additional note: Thinner fabric generally has more and thinner tubes. thicker fabric has less and thicker tubes.

    Hope this helps!

    Sketchbook

The best way to hunt in a mushroom forest is to climb on the back of a butterfly.
