    Hello,

Putting both images side to side is easier to see the differences. So here is a small thing.
When copying a picture, paying attention to the negative space is something that can help you to get a better result. This, and the use of verticals and horizontals, are described more thoroughly in "Keys to Drawing" from Bert Dodson. I really like that book, it taught me lots of things and also how to observe.

For head construction, I'd recommand you Hampton or Huston's approachs, since these are the methods that helped me the most in the past (and still now).

    Here's Huston's head construction : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7cDY7YDsg&t=1948s

The problem is that none of these really look like caricatures. They just look like you tried, and failed, to draw your friends accurately. Being able to convincingly distort a figure while retaining recognition is a tremendous skill you'll only develop with more practice, so don't be disheartened. Make a sketchbook and keep drawing more of these to track your progress.

I worked through that Huston video last year. I can’t believe it’s free!
It is so difficult to abandon proportions and keep symmetry

You may want to follow Tom Richmond from Mad Magazine. The dude is killing it with his work.
